1. No. Not necessarily in the pharmaceutical field. But in biomolecular sciences, it is very common. I advice you to check grad cafe for forums in your field for intending PhD students. They have good resources that can help you.
2. I have a Bachelor of pharmacy degree. Didn't have a masters before getting admitted to the PhD program. Also, I have research experience.
3. Ideal GRE score is >310. This is subjective because the whole application is usually looked at. So one area doesn't determine who gets in or not
The idea is to have a good application overall. Unfortunately, gre scores are a good indicator of intelligence to admission officers so you just got to have a good GRE score.

Hello great people. I just want to ask if anyone here is running a funded PhD program in any US university. I am currently concluding my MS program in Nigeria and would like to proceed to the US for a PhD in Plant Pathology/Microbiology. I just want to ask these questions:
First, did you contact a potential supervisor before applying (I have sent a couple of emails with no positive feedback).
Second, if no, how did you go about the admission process? (Note: I wrote the GRE test last year scoring 307, but the score isn't too great for a PhD position I assume)

vivichocs: it's nt mandatory you must hv an admission before you apply but having an admission I believe will give you an added adv., if u win the scholarsp, commonwealth ll help secure an admission for you if you hv none Not thesis but your study proposal, it ws explained there...y d course? y uk? etc ..u can go through threads related to this to get more info, also naijahotjobs hs a lot of info on this scholarship. ..good luck

Donsly1: Thanks Man. I wrote TOEFL, I scored 92, I made more than the required scored needed for the reading, listening and talking section, unfotunately, I missed the writing requirement by 2 point. I had also exceeded the total minumun requirement. The short fall in writing section has made a mess of the whole result and as such I need to re-write an English test. Am a bit confused at the moment if I should enrol for d same TOEFL test again, or switch to IELT test. Please advice as I need to get this done in two weeks. Thanks.

Hey Boss, you were so close...I have gotten my ielts result, I scored 8.0/9.0 overall. I will advise you to consider IELTS, firstly, the speaking test is done on a diff day, while reading, listening and writing on the same day. Personally, I prefer Ielts to Toefl anyday

Donsly1: How was u're IELT Test Petrelis. Between IELT & TOEFL, which of them do u think in u're opinion is easier. With that I mean, the possibility of scoring 6.5 across board and above for IELT & and 95 and above in TOEFL.

Hey boss..my test went well...the results will be out by Wednesday. You can take any of the exams, with adequate preparation you can score well in both exams..I wil advise you take the cheaper one tho..I dunno how much toefl cost. Ielts is N35000.

StateOfMind: Your result should be out already. Have you finally sent you application to the school? I sent mine 2weeks ago and I got a reply from them telling to to expect a feedback by late june or early july.

My results are not yet out..29th May. I have also sent my application to Westminster and they have replied me. You are the third person I know d̶̲̥̅̊aτ̲̅ has sent the application. May God grant us favor.

What gives you the impression d̶̲̥̅̊aτ̲̅ Alex Jones is part of the problem? Maybe you need to make some research about gun control and its impact on the society. For me, labeling someone a nutjob or conspiracy theorist for having an alternative view is a lazy, sheeple-like mentality. Why not keep an open mind on issues rather than taking any account hook, line and sinker. I am sure you were part of those who believed d̶̲̥̅̊aτ̲̅ Saddam Hussein had WMDs, and d̶̲̥̅̊aτ̲̅ Iraq should be invaded. Please don't let the mainstream media do the thinking and research for you. Wake up before its too late.

I really want to advise you guys to take either IELTS or TOEFL. I took ielts last thursday @ IB and so many other peeps were there. The UKBA is getting stiffer with its entry laws, especially with all these terror attacks, etc. U guys shld try to take d tests. Ielts is N35,000.
