ABUJA—Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Professor Charles Soludo, and former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, were yesterday sighted at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, filling visitors’ forms on their way to the office of Alhaji Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari. Prof Soludo Soludo entered the Chief of Staff’s office around 5:30p.m., followed by Fayemi about 30 minutes later. They were visiting the Villa when expectations were high that President Buhari would soon make his ministerial list public. It will recalled that the President had repeatedly assured Nigerians that he will form his cabinet before the end of this month. Soludo, who was the CBN governor during the administrations of Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and late Umar Yar’Adua, was critical of the immediate past government of former President, Goodluck Jonathan, on the financial management and the handling of the economy, which he said was brutally raped. Fayemi was the Director of Policy, Research and Strategy in All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential campaign organization. I’m not available for public service—SOLUDO Many believed that Soludo’s critical outbursts on the eve of the presidential election in March helped to sway sympathy and votes for President Buhari even as the former CBN governor, in an interview with an online media, Premium Times, on June 7, said he was not prepared to work for the government, saying he was preoccupied with other engagements He had said: “Nigerians and their rumours! I am glad you said they are rumours and such rumours are normal. “For sure, I wish the new government success and for the sake of Nigeria, everyone must contribute to assist President Buhari succeed. “I will contribute in whatever way I can. However, everyone cannot sit in government in order to serve: some will be there on full time basis, while others can contribute from outside. “For me at this point in time, I am not disposed or available for full time public service. Perhaps in the future it could happen, but not now. ‘My hands are full’ “For now, my hands are full with several other experiments I am involved with (especially abroad) in the private sector, charity, think-tanks, and the international community. “I am part of a major initiative in Africa’s mining and solid minerals sector, and this takes me through several African countries, among other engagements. “I am having great fun exploring totally new vistas of opportunity that are central to Africa’s great leap in the 21st century. “I read that President Buhari will give priority to solid minerals. We can provide free advisory services and perhaps assist to mobilize investment in the sector or in any other areas if our advice is needed. “In effect, there are several ways we can assist the government to succeed but not necessarily to take up full time appointment. No, not now,” he was quoted as saying in the interview. Meanwhile, it was not known whether both men later met with President Buhari as they waited for the Chief of Staff, who was in the President’s office when they arrived the State House. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/soludo-fayemi-visit-buharis-cos-ahead-of-ministerial-appointments/ |

A woman abandoned her husband & her four (4) year old son for her rich boyfriend & they both (woman & boy friend) eventually travelled to the U.S.A Out of frustration & desperation the husband went & married another woman. Unfortunately the 2nd woman couldn't bear a child for the husband. Despite her inability to bear a child, the 2nd woman took great care of the boy & treated him like her own son. Few years later, the husband died in a car accident. The 2nd wife did everything in her power to educate the boy, she engaged in petty trade such as pepper, maggie, salt, palm oil, onion, tomatoes, etc, in the market square in order to sponsor the boy's schooling. The boy only knew his step mother as his real mother & there4, he called her Mama. The real mother in the U.S.A did not for once find out about the wellbeing of her son thoughtless of sending a penny for the boy, even after she heard that her x-husband (son's father) died in an accident. Some years later, this boy grew up into a very intelligent young man waiting for his B.A Hons degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University. The real mother who also could not bear another child in the U.S since she eloped with her boyfriend, realized that she had made a terrible mistake by abandoning her own son. She decided to return home to look for her son & present to him all her wealth acquired over the years in the States. She eventually found her son battling between life & death in the hospital for kidney failure. The Doctors demanded huge amount of money for the operation & the step mother couldn't afford it. The real mother stepped in & paid all the hospital bills & donated one of her own kidneys & the son was saved. Shortly after, the final results were out & the son got a distinction & also got a five year (5) scholarship to pursue his Masters degree in the U.K At the presentation of the certificate, the Vice Chancellor gave the mic to the son to call his mother to come up stage & receive the certificate. The moment the Vice Chancellor made the statement, the real mother got up & arranged herself waiting to be called upon whilst the step mother sat down & looked at the boy with tears running her chick. The answer is suspended.......... Assume you are the son, who would you call on up stage? A) Real Mother B) Step Mother Remember only one person you should call. Cc: Seun |

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari said, Wednesday, in Paris, France, that he opposed a further weakening of the naira and openly endorsed the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN’s policy of restricting foreign-exchange trading. The President, who was answering questions in an interview with France 24 broadcast, said: “I do not think it is healthy for us to get the naira devalued. The Central Bank is providing ample foreign exchange to essential services, industries.” CBN has been under pressure from foreign investors to further devalue the naira. Nigeria had, last year, devalued the naira to N197 to the dollar from N160. The naira was further adjusted slightly in July to N199 to the dollar. As a result of the continued pressure on the naira, CBN introduced some measures to curb the excess demand for foreign exchange. This, however, did not go down well with some of the foreign investors. After the crash of oil prices last year, the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, reacted to the naira’s drop to a record low in February by extending trading curbs and introducing bans on purchases of dollars by 41 items, which CBN said cannot access foreign exchange from the Nigeria market. CBN, JPMorgan clash The naira has since stabilized at the inter-bank market, but foreign investors, local businesses and even some members of CBN Monetary Policy Committee have complained that the naira is overvalued. Reacting to these measures put in place by the CBN, JPMorgan excluded Nigeria bonds from its bond index. Reacting to JPMorgan’s decision, CBN’s Debt Management Office and the Ministry of Finance, in a joint statement, said: “It will be recalled that Nigeria was included in the index in October 2012, based on the existence of an active domestic market for FGN Bonds supported by a Two-Way Quote System, dedicated market makers and diverse investors. “However, in January 2015, JP Morgan placed Nigeria on an Index Watch as a result of their concerns in the operations of our Foreign Exchange, FX, market, namely lack of liquidity for transactions, lack of transparency in the determination of the exchange rate and lack of a fully functional two-way FX market. “In our continuous bid to strengthen the Nigerian financial market and enhance our status as a preferred destination for investors, we took measures to improve the market. Despite the fact that oil prices have fallen by nearly 60 percent in one year, which should expectedly reduce the amount of liquidity in the market, CBN ensured that all genuine and effective demands were met, especially those from foreign investors. “On transparency, CBN mandated that all FX transactions were posted online in the Reuters Trading Platform so that all stakeholders can easily verify all transactions in the market. In addition, the official FX window at CBN were closed to ensure a level-playing field in the pricing of foreign exchange. It is important to note that a functional two-way FX market already exists in Nigeria. CBN justifies regulation “However, given the high propensity for speculation, round tripping, and rent-seeking in the market, it became imperative that participants are not allowed to simply trade currencies, but are only in the market to fulfill genuine customer demands to pay for eligible imports and other transactions. “In the light of this, we introduced an order- based, two-way FX market, which has resulted in the stability of the exchange rate in the interbank market over the past seven months and largely eliminated speculators from the market. “Despite these positive outcomes, JPMorgan would prefer that we remove this rule, even though it is obvious that doing so would lead to an indeterminate depreciation of the naira. With dwindling oil prices, we believe that an order- based two-way market best serves Nigeria’s interest at the moment. “While we would continue to ensure that there is liquidity and transparency in the market, we would like to note that the market for FGN Bonds remains strong and active due, primarily, to the strength and diversity of the domestic investor base. “For the avoidance of doubt, the Federal Government sees Nigeria and the interest of Nigerians as paramount. It will, therefore, only continue to take economic decisions that will impact positively in the lives of all Nigerians.” President Buhari also said in the interview that markets were not being harmed by the delay in ministerial appointments, which he says will happen by the end of the month. He said: “Work is being done by technocrats; they are there and they provide the continuity.” The naira remained little changed at 199.05 per dollar on the inter-bank market at in Lagos. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/i-wont-devalue-naira-says-buhari/ |
