Who is talking about attention and camera here? Whether or not the kid or her father so-called is aware, that act is sparking off a reaction at a time most unnatural.

And do you know the capabilities or otherwise of Nigerian healthcare workers?
Why did you assume it would have been worse if the operation happened in Nigeria?
If you say the instruments were not made in Nigeria, why did you think the outcome would have been worse?
You don't know what you're talking about, yet you come online and pass of heresies as facts.
Carry out proper research before putting up unsubstantiated posts.

Its clear you did not understand what I posted earlier on, including the one posted before it. I hate to altercate, worse still when the other person has repeatedly failed to understand a clear point.

Your argument is that I have downplayed the standard of our country's health workers, including its faith in producing clinical equipments. Your grievance is understandable, don't push it too far.

I did not attack our health workers, to the best of my knowledge, their services are mint (I'm not generally speaking and no one is above mistakes too). I do not go abroad to visit a hospital, its Nigeria; here in Coal City..

We can produce surgical tools no doubt, buh the question is; How excellent? Will it be like the ones we produce that turns out to be substandard or mixed with the substandard one by heartless merchants? I believe in my country's growing ability to manufacture, we are getting there, yes buh we ain't there.

We could manage? Well, its not a matter of patronising indigenous products. These are critical equipments; ones used to cut the bodies of ailing individuals, humans made up of several chemicals components which could react with any instrument made with a spurious chemical. We can't take chances with the lives of people, with beloved ones and dependents close by. These products should not be used if they are substandard.

Most aluminium products in our country do not last long before rusting. Aluminium? Terrible. They are denser than normal. Imagine leaving such a thing in the body of a human?

My friend, I still thank God the scissors is foreign made. I cannot erode the fact that we can't produce it, at least now. Like I said my initial post was only optative yet you pounced on it like its a misconstrued fact. For the records, being in tune with reality is not being negative regardless of how negative that reality is.

You won't get a reply from me again.

Gross!

I pity the girl, with a pedophilic father. Even if its with innocence (which does serve any iota of excuse for such act), he's only arousing her sexual hormones too early than it should be. **sighs**

Someone should arrest that man, he's no good to our society.

**Modified**

Ordinarily, a post that a man kissed his daughter should not and may not raise dust as to his intention or the act's morality. Buh, when the evidence of the kiss -the pictures in question- show images which tend to suggest something unethical about the kiss (even the slightest irk), you shouldn't blame any person for reading something into it, whether or not he/she is a parent

You're not making sense.
Surgical instruments are not made in Naija.
They're imported.
I am sure you were disappointed it didn't happen in Nigeria.
Stop belittling your country.

There is nothing as belittling your country when you're stating a truth. Its common knowledge that most aluminum products made in Nigeria are usually merged with metals, hence their rapid rust after a short while.

Besides, I did not say they were made in Nigeria. My words were only optative and did not state a fact.

There is no point being a thick-headed, over-zealous patriot. Knowing one's capabilities is a great step to improvement.

Education / Eleven Words Nigerians Mispronounce Everyday! by Phace(m): 12:44pm On Jan 03, 2017
There are several English words which many mispronounce on a daily basis.

Here are some of them, and the proper way to pronounce them:

1. Niche:
Niche can be defined as a place, employmnent, status, or activity for which a person or thing is best fitted. There isare two pronunciations of the word: 'Neesh' and 'Nitch' buh most people use 'nitch'. 'Neesh' is a more recent pronunciation.

2. Gala:
Gala does not refer to the beef sausage, which is common in Nigeria, it refers in this case to a festive celebration. The pronunciation differs in most cases, some dictionaries use: "gay-la", some use"gah-la," buh "gay-la" is preferred in most cases.

3. Valet:
A valet is an employee of a hotel or a public facility who performs personal services for customers. Usually, they are commonly those who help in getting cars parked. The Merriam-Webster says this word should be pronounced "val-ett," though most of people tend to stick with "val-ay."

4. Banal:
Banal refers to something boring or ordinary, not interesting. Many people pronounce it as "bay-nul" or "bay-nal". While it might feel weird to say it like this, the correct pronunciation is "buh-nal."

5. Flaccid:
The word flaccid is an adjective that describes something that is not firm, not hard or solid. Unlike what most people think, this word actually doesn't rhyme with "acid." The proper pronunciation is "flak-sed," not "flas-sid."

6. Quasi:
Quasi refers to when something is in some way or sense but not in a true, direct, or complete way. Mostly incomplete. According to the Merriam-Webster, Oxford, and MacMillan, dictionaries agree: This word is pronounced "kway-zai," not "kwah-zai."

7. Fuel:
This refers to material such as coal, gas, or oil that is burned to produce heat or power. It can also refer to something that sustains or keeps a thing going. It is usually pronounced as "fu-el," however the correct pronunciation is "few-l"

8. Gigantic
Gigantic is an adjective which means of very great size or extent; huge or enormous. Its synonyms include: huge, enormous, vast, extensive, expansive, broad, wide and so on. It is usually pronounced as "jai-jan-tic." However, the proper way to pronounce this word is 'jai-gan-tik'. The 'g' in the middle is pronounced like the first letter of the word 'goat'.

9. Prelude:
A prelude is an introductory performance, action, or event preceding and preparing for the principal or a more important matter. The common pronunciation is "pray-lood," buh the proper pronunciation is "prell-yood."

10. Antarctic:
The Antarctic is something of or relating to the south pole or to the region near it. For most people it is tempting to drop that first "c," and pronounce it as "Ant-ar-tik". However, the correct way to pronounce it is"Ant-ark-tik."

11. Stipend:
A stipend is a form of salary, such as for an internship or apprenticeship. It is often distinct from a wage or a salary because it does not necessarily represent payment for work performed. Rather, it represents a payment that enables somebody to be exempt partly or wholly from waged or salaried employment in order to undertake a role that is normally unpaid. It is pronounced "stai-pend" and not "sti-pend."

Politics / Buhari Moves To Install Barrow As Gambian President. by Phace(m): 11:47am On Jan 03, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari has imitated moves towards the actualisation of the mandate given to Gambian president-elect, Adama Barrow.

According to a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Sunday, in the discharge of his mandate as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) mediator for The Gambia, President Buhari has activated the process for the execution of his task.

The statement recalled that one of the outcomes of the just-concluded ECOWAS Summit held on December 17, 2016 in Abuja was the decision to designate President Muhammadu Buharias the Mediator for The Gambia with Mr. John Mahama, the out-going President ofGhana as co-mediator. It said the Summit also gave the terms of reference to include ensuring the safety of Barrow, the political leaders and the entire population; upholding the result of the presidential election held on December 1, 2016 and ensuring that the president-elect is sworn into office on January 19, 2017, in conformity with the constitution of the country.

According to the statement, on the direction of the President, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama is leading a Mediation Support Team (MST),working with the team of the co-mediator, President Mahama. The committee has begun immediate consultations with leaders in the sub-region as well as with international partners. main task of the Mediation Support Team is to undertake the first phase of the preparatory and support work that would lead to a high level meeting of the mediator (President Buhari) and the stakeholders,” it said.

It added that Buhari remained optimistic that a peaceful resolution of the problem,in line with the laws and the constitution of The Gambia was possible before the January 19, 2017 inauguration date of the new president.

UC browser should be added to the ten list; talk about fast browsing.

Besides, how did majority of the app users update their apps esp WhatsApp and Score! Hero. Play store is therefore worthy of mention.

Some apps cannot be listed without mentioning some others. Talk of downloads and movies, how else did most NL members watch updated series and current movies if not with MX Player(not to mention, VLC MP for laptop and desktop users)

Bro reshuffle that list!

OP, are you trying to tell us that no harm was done because the child (or her father) consented?

The maxim, as I stated does not affect Mr Udeme's offence. The physical and mental properties are intact, and relates to the offender and not her father.

I was referring to her Father; he endangered his daughter, knowing that his friend had a questionable character and yet accepting him in.

Family / 'Oldest Mother In The World' - Woman Give Birth At 64. by Phace(m): 9:02am On Jan 02, 2017
On Wednesday, December 28, a woman who is believed to be the ‘oldest mother’ in the world and in China, just welcomed her second baby boy through a Cesarean section after she lost her only child years back.

The woman had a C-section on her due date, which went smoothly. Although the woman was completely exhausted after delivery but the doctor in charge, Teng Hong said the woman was the oldest she had accepted as a patient and may be the oldest across the country so far.

The doctor said: “I was really moved at the moment, and my nerves, which were tense for months, were eventually stretched."

It was also gathered that the woman who is from Changchun, capital of North China’s Jilin Province in China had reportedly experienced amenorrhea for more than 10 years. She also suffered from complications during the pregnancy, including gestational diabetes when she was 28 weeks pregnant. She was impregnated by artificial insemination.

Both mother and son were said to be doing well at the Second Hospital of Jilin University.

Congratulations!

Crime / 25-Year-Old Man Rapes His Friend's Six-Year-Old Daughter by Phace(m): 8:32am On Jan 02, 2017
In Calabar, there was pandemonium in the early hours of yesterday, when 25-year-old Monday Udeme was beaten up for defiling his best friend’s six-year-old daughter at their King Duke Street residence in Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State.

An eyewitness, Ekpeyong Bassey, who works in a bakery close to the scene, told Vanguard that problem started on New Year eve when Asuquo, the girl’s father, discovered that his daughter’s pant was damp.

The father, it was learned, scolded the girl for wetting herself. But she reportedly told his father that she did not urinate on herself. The father, Asuquo, decided to examine her and discovered that the girl’s private part was discharging substance.

Ekpeyong said: “Asuquo started probing her and threatening her. That was when she opened up and told him that it was Uncle Udeme who raped her.

“Because of the New Year celebration, Udeme was still outside. The suspect and Asuquo were roommates. So they waited for him to come back.“ On sighting Udeme, some of Asuquo’s friends pounced on him and started beating him. They gave him a beating of his life. I leave him to God."

When Vanguard visited Asuquo, who was very emotional about what happened, he expressed shock over what his friend Udeme did to his daughter even after sheltering him for close to a year. In his words: “Udeme is my very good friend. I took him in when he was dismissed from the bakery across the road, because they accused him of always stealing their bread.

“He does not have relatives here and the ones he has do not even want to see him anymore because of his attitude. What he has done to my girl is despicable, and I know God will judge him because I do not want to arrest him, neither am I going to push the matter.

"I am crying because he has damaged my baby’s life. She told me he has done it four times. That is most painful. She was defiled in 2014. Why are they doing this to my little girl all the time? And they are all people I know.

”The victim’s father further told Vanguard that although the girl’s mother left them when things got a bit tough for him after he lost his father, he had no option than to take his daughter back to her mother to ensure she gets all the care she needs. He said: “I have called to tell the mother what happened. She would be here any moment to pick her so that she would take care of her till they can go to the hospital on Monday. I have also told them to leave the idiot before they say I killed somebody this 2017.”

A neighbour, who pleaded anonymity, corroborated what the victims father had earlier said about how the child was defiled, when she was about four years old, by a co-tenant.

Sports / Andy Murray Becomes A Knight by Phace(m): 1:55am On Jan 02, 2017
A monumental year for Andy Murray just got even bigger -- the tennis world No.1 has been knighted in Britain's 2017 New Year's Honors List.

The traditional list overseen by the UK government recognizes the achievements and service of"extraordinary" people and 2016 certainly has been an extraordinary year for Murray.

The 29-year-old ended the season as world No.1 for the first time, toppling Novak Djokovic -- who had held the topspot since July 2014. Murray had a golden summer, winning his second Wimbledon title in July and then claiming his second Olympic gold at the Rio Games in August.

Last, but not least, Murray and his wife Kim also became parents with the birth of daughter Sophia in February, just days after he played in the Australian Open final.

CNN's Open Court presenter Pat Cash says there is more to come from "Sir Andy Murray" in 2017: "One of my predictions is that he will be No. 1 for quite a while next year. He'll be pushed but for the majority of the year he will be No. 1.

"I also think he'll win the French Open. He's desperate to win that one and I think he'll grab it."

Although however, it wasn't quite the start to 2017 that Murray wanted when he lost his first match 7-6(4) 6-4 to Belgian David Goffin at an exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi, Friday, fans are hopeful that his fighting spirit will aid him hold his title for the time being.

Politics / Ban Ki-moon Replaced! by Phace(m): 1:25am On Jan 02, 2017
Antonio Guterres, the 67-year-old former secretary of Socialist International and head of the UN's refugee agency, succeeded Ban Ki-moon on January 1.

The Socialist former prime minister of Portugal was confirmed as the next Secretary-General of the United Nations – taking over at a time when the world is rocked by terrorism, reeling from the refugee crisis, and struggling to resolve the war in Syria.

Although his selection by the United Nations General Assembly was made on the 30the of October, last year, he was billed to take over on New year day.

#UNGA has officially selected António Guterres as 9th Secretary-General of the UN! pic.twitter.com/0syDMw9dGW— United Nations (@UN), October 13, 2016

Mr Ban, speaking ten years to the day after his own appointment as Secretary-General, said: “Secretary-General-elect Guterres is well known to all of us in the hall. But he is perhaps best known where it countsmost: on the frontlinesof armed conflict and humanitarian suffering". Noting that he has long valued his advice and admired his spirit of service, Mr Ban said: “He is a wonderful choice to steer this organisation as we build on the progress of the past decade, while addressing the insecurity and uncertainties of today's world.” “Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!” he tweeted following his election by the Security Council, saying he was "honored and happy".

Matthew Rycroft, Britain's ambassador to the UN, said he was "delighted" at the selection, and described Mr Guterres "exactly the strong Secretary-General the UN needs." And yet the Portuguese politician was at the helm of the UN’s refugee organisation precisely when the refugee crisis began to spiral out of control. The UN has so far been unable to galvanise support for any significant solutions to the problem, described asthe worst humanitarian crisis since the Second World War. The UNHCR – which Mr Guterres ran until December – estimatesthat 34,000 people are forced from their homes every day, and there are now 21.3 million refugees, half of them children.

Mr Guterres has said that he intends to make preventing crises a priority for the 71-year-old organisation – which has been hampered bya decade of lethargic responses to crises under Mr Ban. "We need a surge in diplomacy for peace,” he said, outlining his plan. “The international community spends much more time and resources managing crises than preventing them. A Secretary-General must continuously seek to contribute to reducing the number of conflicts and consequently the number of victims.”

Profile| António Guterres
Born: Lisbon, Portugal on the 30th of April, 194.
Political party: Socialist
Becomes UN Secretary General: 1st January, 2017
Career timeline: (2005–2015) UN High Commissioner for Refugees;(1999–2005) Secretary of Socialist International;(1995–2002) Prime Minister of Portugal.

Mr Guterres secured the nomination by finally winning over the Russians, who were believed to be blocking his candidacy. They had pushed for Irina Bokova, head of UNESCO, to take the job – but her perceived proximity to Moscow made her candidacy difficult for Britain and the US to accept. The election process for the new Secretary-General was more open than ever before in the 70-year history of the UN.The 13 candidates had to submit detailed proposals for their work, and appear before the General Assembly to outline their plans. Britain and the United States were particularly vociferous incalling for a woman to take the job for the first time in UN history. Half of the 10 candidates who remained until the October 5 decision were women, but none of them were able to garner the support of all the members of the Security Council Kristalina Georgieva, a 63-year-old Bulgarian who currently heads up the EU budget and human resources division, threw her hat into the ring last week - and was considered by some to be a strong contender. But it now appears that her candidacy was announced too late, and she did not have enough time to build a base of support.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Portugal's president, complained about her late entry to the race - and compared her to “an athlete who joins the marathon in the last 100 meters.”

Mr Ban, who was in Brussels at the time of the Security Council vote, for an Afghanistan conference, has been praised for his role in securing agreement on climate change. But he has been criticised for the UN’s inability to improve the Syrian situation, and portrayed as lacking the clout of some of his predecessors – notably Kofi Annan and Dag Hammarskjold, the second Secretary-General, who died in a plane crash in 1961. Mr Ban is believed to be contemplating running for prime minister of South Korea when he steps down on December 31.

Politics / Incisive Talk, From Gov. Emefiele by Phace(m): 12:55pm On Dec 28, 2016
NIGERIA CBN GOVERNOR - Godwin Emefiele was quoted:

“It is either I do not understand economics and how exchange rates work or a vast majority of us Nigerians still don’t get how we have wrecked our country with our own curious choices.

Just this morning, I was listening to the radio and the lady on air went on and on about how she thought CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele was incompetent and should be sacked because the Naira was now exchanging at 309 or so to the USD".

That view pretty much echoes the sentiments expressed by many people I know and it amazes me that there are Nigerians who actually think there is some magic POLICY that can make the Naira strong in the near term. If my economics and my understanding of the way the world works are right, then that is as far from the truth as Jesus Christ is black.

The simple fact of the matter is that apart from oil that accounts for over 90% of our revenues, we really don’t have much of an economy. We hardly produce anything, we import even toothpicks, so exactly what policy is going to be implemented that will turn Nigeria into a top exporting economy in the near term? Where are our Apples, IBMs, Disneys, GMs, General Electrics, Coca Colas, Empire State buildings, Statues of Liberties, Lockheeds, Citibanks, JP Morgans, ExxonMobils, NBAs, Super Bowls etc? Let me bring that closer home.

“There was a time long ago when Nigeria had a truly strong economy and the naira was one to the dollar – even exchanged for higher than the USD, but that Nigeria is not this Nigeria. Sadly, that Nigeria was laid by the British, and this Nigeria (if you don’t believe in the nonsensical imperialist conspiracies like me) – fueled by the DAMAGING Indigenization Decree, has been the creation of us Nigerians.

Back then we had a booming economy. We were either the top, or among the top exporters, of timbre, cocoa, groundnuts, rubber, palm oil, etc, in the world. Nigerians not only holidayed at home in their villages, at Yankari Games Reserve, at Obudu Cattle Ranch, at Oguta Lake, at Ikogosi springs, at Gurara Falls, at Mambilla Platueau, etc, we attracted international tourists who brought in loads of foreign exchange. Even Nigerian schools were foreign exchange earners because they attracted foreign students.

“We had different car assembly plants – Peugeot, Volkswagen, Anamco etc. Nigerian government officials only bought vehicles assembled in Nigeria for official cars. We had a thriving sports industry. We were not Man United or Chelsea fans, we were Rangers or IICC fans. We had the Nduka Odizors, people made money from sports. We also had companies like Lennards and Bata producing school shoes in their thousands, we had the thriving Nigerian Airways and the Aviation School in the north that produced some of the best pilots in the world.

In those days if you were brilliant you were respected much more than the crass money-miss-road contractors of today. Most of the Aje Butters I knew had fathers who were university dons. Back then it meant something to ‘know book’. Our textile industry was alive and well.

Just recently I watched a news report on the textile industry in Nigeria on CCTV News. Though the main focus was on the comatose status of the industry, I was stunned by the gigantic Kaduna Textile Mill built in 1957. I could go on and on.

Today however, no thanks to our parents (and we must call them out the way Wole Soyinka did his generation) and many of us (and we should be remembered for failing our children if we continue like this), we have destroyed everything.

Today for instance Nigerian football (which comes easy to me obviously) doesn’t appeal to us, we have to fly across thousands of miles to watch ‘our’ clubs play. Every year we collectively burn billions of Naira being fans of clubs that give us nothing back, but some ‘entertainment value’ –simple pleasures for which we are ready to destroy the future of our children. Well people, payback time is here.

Even with our ta-she-re money we all want to wear designer clothes and carry designer bags, Armani, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton etc. We all want to drive jeeps with American specs, our children must now school overseas and acquire the necessary accents to come back home and bamboozle their ‘bush and crass’ contemporaries that they left behind.

Who holidays in Nigeria anymore, is there Disneyland here? No one buys made-in-Nigeria school bags for their children, after all no Superman or Incredible Hulk or Cinderella on them.“We are no longer top exporters of anything and the demise of oil means we have zilch… zero.

A country of 170M fashion-conscious people has no textile industry. We take delight in showing how our made-in- Switzerland Aso Ebi is different class to everyone else’s. When we help our musicians grow and pay them millions, they repay us by immediately shipping the monies overseas to produce their “i-don-dey- different-level” music videos. It makes no difference that distinctly Zulu dancers are dancing to a Nigerian highlife song. As stars concerned, they also wed and holiday overseas to impress us all. All the musicians who acknowledge their Ajegunle roots now speak in a cocktail of strange accents to symbolise how much they have blown their monies overseas. Were we a more serious people, the highly popular Kingsway Stores of the past would probably have a thousand outlets pan Nigeria today supporting a massive agriculture industry among others, but today we have the likes of SPAR, Shoprite, dominating the retail industry while Kingsway is dead. And we Nigerians make it a special point to shop from the Oyinbos who have ‘cleaner shops’, ‘better this and better that’. For our personal pleasure we don’t mind them dominating us in our own backyard and shipping proceeds overseas. I could go on and on, but I don tire.

Even as you are reading this, stop for a moment and look around you. What you see will probably explain why we are lucky it is not N1000 to the USD yet. And don’t think for a moment that it cannot get there. “Just continue to wear your Armani gear and Swiss-made lace, continue to spend your money on Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Barca and encourage your children to do same. (My article tomorrow in my Saturday column in This Day is on the Nigerian champions Enyimba FC – Nigeria’s most successful club – not having a sponsor, yet Nigerian brands pay over N600m to Man United and Arsenal for sponsorship to impress us.). Ehhh, no problem, continue to tell me the NPFL is rubbish or the clubs should clean up their act if they want sponsorship, mo gbo .

Don’t curtail your interest in choice wines ( we were the number one champagne consumers in the world in 2015), continue to love your American specs, cheer the education ministry for letting schools sink to pitiable levels, don’t fight them to improve our schools, don’t chide them for letting schools drop Nigerian history and embrace British, America and whatever else curricular. Carry on with your love of French wines and Chinese silk, don’t bother about Jamiu Alli when there is Roger Federer.

Stock up on your Italian, American, British products which you cannot live without, including the ‘baby soft’ toilet rolls produced only in that small unique village in England – the days are long gone since you were a broke student who used wet newspapers to wipe your butt.

Don’t even consider holidaying in Nigeria, it’s too dangerous – you have to fulfill your dream of being Nigeria’s Henry Ford. Don’t listen to people like me who have a wardrobe full of only cheap adire that is actually cheaper than just one of your Tom Ford blazers. Please keep dressing in fine silk made in some exotic place so you can be addressed accordingly.
Finally, keep letting corrupt leaders who have looted your commonwealth and shipped all the monies overseas get away because to attack them does not fit your political narrative. Let us continue with the fine life, let us all continue to work for Oyinbo. But don’t forget that there is a payback time: Worth sharing again. I must equally add, there is nothing wrong in wearing designers but it's the misplaced priority over the lives of children and the...

Its somewhat ironic that the conspiracy theorists, whoever they are, make use of the feeds returned from the same moon expeditions they are criticising.

If they really want to convince the world, the method is clear - get other positive evidences that are capable of overshadowing the so-called hoax and get everyone to believe it. Its no news that theories, generally speaking, are inconclusive on the point it proves and consequently, more theories arise upon that same point.

Till these theorists become serious, they remain conspiracy criers to me.

My friend go sit your ass down.

Is bombing of pipelines not a crime? Why did Yaradua of blessed memory come up with amnesty for militants who agree to surrender their arms? Desperate times call for desperate measures and this is also examplified by the fact that BH terrorists are being negotiated with just to achieve a desperate aim - the return of the kidnapped chibok girls, now does this mean terrorism is condoned or is no longer a crime punishable under our laws?

Recession and severe economic hardship (desperate times) call for out of the box thinking like giving looters a window to return all loots (desperate measures).

Nice one.

And that is why another militant group; Niger Delta Avengers sprang up. So much for thinking outside the box!

Who even told you that the FG is negotiating with BH?

And u think a compromised judiciary wont breach internal security.

It can, but there's yet to be a concrete evidence that the situation at hand has gone to the extent of a security crisis.

Besides, for the above to happen, such compromise must be apparently severe and not just an ordinary perversity.

Until then, the power of the DSS to arrest our judges is illegal.

Do you have comprehension problems?

Are you telling me those acts et al are not amendable as the op I quoted implied?

Or that a new act or law cannot be passed into the constitution, that can override the abovementioned acts?

Don't disturb me with your ignorance pls.

Guess you don't know what is happening in the Philippines today...

You really need a reorientation!

Do you think laws are changed like clothes, especially the minuscule number in the constitution?

Or that most laws show the will of the people? You're swimming in an ocean of delusion with such mindset!

Now the worst of it all is your view that laws should be changed to accommodate looters so that they'll return their stolen money. Such ignorance! Like I said the laws in our country are hinged on one ultimate stance: that corruption is a crime and must be punished and that, for all its intent and purpose, is unshifting.

Please retiring justices that are almost at the twilight of their careers, and asking one to refund the money he collected installmentally is in your opinion 'good enough' punishments? Please Mr. don't play technicalities here, because while we are at it, their corrupt actions have real and horrible consequences on Nigerians. If they collected bribes, they should all be handed over for prosecution and actually prosecuted. I don't see how retiring an alleged corrupt judge is hardly any punishment for his crimes, it seems more like a slap on the wrist. So tell me why they won't continue taking bribes? For an institution that prides itself as the hope of the common man, they sure don't inspire any hope.

Fortunately, the DSS will not use the same tactics as the NJC, because they are trained differently, that's why I've been asking if the DSS broke any laws, by arresting the judges based on their investigations. If so what part of their actions contravene the Nigerian constitution. If you're a legal practitioner, you should be able to point us to the facts! So we can be enlightened.

We want corruption to go, but we don't want a breakdown of law and order, so let's get the technicalities out of the way, and get to the nitty gritty of the matter....

Like I said, you have to be wary of your facts.

Two justices were compulsorily retired: Justices Mohammed Tsamiya and then, Justice A. Umezurike. The former was alleged to have DEMANDED sums of money prior to the judgement of a particular suit, while the latter was charged of malicious handling of a suit hence their retirement.

Not one of them collected money from anyone except the third Justice Kabiru Auta, who now must be in police custody. So I don't know where you got your fact that the justices were asked to return looted sums instalmentaly.

Moreover, the powers of the DSS like I've poured out over this thread is limited to only matters concerning internal security and the protection of the government, not financial crimes handling. They should leav that for the EFCC and ICPC.

Its not about tactics; its about rule of law.

Unbelievable conclusion and inference from you right there.

If you are a member of the NBA as you claimed, then I shudder at the thought of you representing a client with your uninhibited support for the jumentous actions of these individuals.

Your line of argument to justify the corrupt judges is filipendulous, to say the least, and you wonder why the Nigerian law profession is not respected anymore like the days of yore.

Just like a mumpsimus, the NJC has been corrupt by the infection warranted by the people constitutes it. It is a futile effort expecting the NJC to adjudicate this matter because of the caliber of people involved.

So the NJC can be politically influenced and the SSS can't be.

Its not about grammar, brother. You make use of facts to support your argument.

I wonder what the hullabaloo is all about.
Some persons suspected of corruption were arrested and here we are making issues out of it.
I have hear (sic) many people rely on separation of powers to criticize the actions of the DSS, I wonder whether executing the law is not part of the functions of the executive.
Some have based their criticism on the time of carrying out the arrest, I wonder whether there are times in day/ night that the law prohibits arrest from being made.
Under S.308 the constitution, there is no immunity cover for judges.
Some highly placed persons have argued the judges ought to have been invited and not arrested. Which law prohibits arrest but prescribes invitation for persons where there are hard evidences indicating that crime is being committed.

It is expected that judges leave above board and must be treated like criminals when they descend to that realm.

Nice.

But the power of the DSS to arrest is limited to only such offences provided by the Act that created them. Under such offences, siphoning of public funds is not among them. Hence, their arrest is outside the law.

Besides, the NJC is the body with the disciplinary powers over judges and justices and still remains so. It is not part of the judiciary.

The main crux of the whole argument is that uncouthed arrest could tell on the courts as the last hope of these helpless masses the FG has been tossing around.

I don't have time to argue with ignorant dundees like u.

Go to the constitution and read properly about arrests, the CPA acts, the NSA acts. Thank me later.

Lol. Just apprise yourself with the correct facts and laws before stepping out to argue.

No doubt, you must have read it but you applied it outta context. Any person can arrest, the police can arrest without warrants too but all is made subject to the strength of due process.

Be informed.

So the best the NJC could do was to retire the 3 judges accused of corrupt charges which they obviously have proved themselves, and you wonder why Nigeria is fantastically corrupt?

We all want a free and fair Nigeria, but unfortunately Nigeria is only free if you've got money and connection. Until the NBA does something to protect the rights of the common Nigerian they can scream all they want, now they understand what the average Nigerian suffers in the hands of our security officers.

Back to the issue, if the NJC disciplinary process is not effective as we have seen, they should admit and ask for time develop a better frame work for punishing culprits.

Corruption in the judiciary is akin to mutiny in the military, but the consequences are what makes the difference. Actions should have consequences, and serious actions should have even more serious consequences.

When the FBI arrested corrupt judges in the US, one was facing almost 35 years in prison because of a bribe of $100, if it's the NJC they will tell him to refund the money and go and sin no more. Nonsense

When the NJC retired the two justices and handed the other for prosecution, did they ask them to go and sin no more?

Please be sure of your facts!

The NJC did not break into the houses of those judges, they instead invited them upon investigations being carried out and questioned them before a disciplinary tribunal set up for that purpose.

That's Due Process, and so you know depicts an efficient NJC.
