helinues: Because leaders from other regions were killed except the Igbo leaders.
And eventually after the coup, it was an Igbo man , Aguiyi Ironsi who benefited from the coup.
So it's Igbo's coup
It be like some of una missed history class in secondary school This is not true. The military at the time, just like every other sector had a predominance of igbos. A yoruba man ademoyega was also involved. The plan was to get rid of the corrupt civilian leadership at the time. They started executions from the west and north and had plans to eliminate the igbo leaders at the time but the coup was foiled before they could get to the East. Go and read "why we struck" by adewale ademoyega. Please note that nzeogwu was delta igbo but grew up in the North and spoke hausa fluently. He was igbo in name. That coup was not intended to entrench igbo dominance. We keep talking about the coup but forget the chaos that led to it. Awolowo in his tribalistic nature caused the events that led to that coup. Please go and read and stop constituting nuisance here on nairaland |

Why not steer the phock out of our business? The Ekpeyes and Ogbas bear similar names like the Ikwerres, but you barely say they are Igbos.
What am I saying? They've distanced themselves from the cooked-up lies you tell yourself.
Can you even tell me the history of the Ikwerre people including how they allegedly came out of Igboland? If you cannot share same, then get the phock out of our business. 😂.. clowns, when it suits you or when there's something to gain by being igbo you all switch and claim igbo. What do you know about your Igbo ancestry? I presume you think you're a Jew too. What does ezebunwo mean in ikwerre? What of ovunda? What of nnenda? What of ejiowhor? What of nyeweli ? The meanings of the above names are the same in igbo. I dont give a rats ass if you claim igbo or not but you guys are deluded sha. You all know the truth.. your fathers know the truth. |

ZIAZI: Loopholes just full this story. The alleged dynamite was for what exactly? To kill the number of persons protecting alongside him? Was it to cause tension? You can't be asking this. The plan was to detonate it infront of a landmark like hotel presidential then claim opposition members were behind it thereby pushing the narrative that Rivers is not safe so the FG can declare a state of emergency. |

flokii: There are many ways for conflict resolution.. diplomacy is one very potent way with less damage done.
From reliable source, Wike actually brought the guy up and imposed him on Rivers PDP.. he didn't have the connections or that political sagacity to contest for Governorship seat in Rivers State, it's all thanks to Wike that he is on that seat he is in today.
Whatever might have caused the quarrel can be discussed in closed door roundtable meeting with royal fathers, youths representatives and elders in Rivers State present. Then they'll both have the floor to express their minds and say things from their various perspectives for those present to reconcile them.
It's only those who don't know what 'Federal might' is that will think Fubara can drag shoulder with his predecessor who is now in the Federal caucus. Yorubas are not like that o, don't know why Rivers people are happy taking sides while two of their leaders fight dirty. Gibberish.. how old are you? 🤔😒 |

#tinabriggsnews Rivers State Information Commissioner, Mr Joe Johnson on Tuesday lamented the death of the unnamed youth who was said to have been killed by an explosion while on the train of protesters led by former local government chairmen loyal to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in Port Harcourt. The youth who identity is yet to be known, was believed to be carrying an explosive suspected to be dynamite while on the streets for the protest. His body was said to have been taken away immediately the incident occurred. The protesting former local government chairmen went into the streets of Port Harcourt and other local governments in the state on Monday, to call on the police to remain at the various local government secretariats until pending judgement on the lingering issues surrounding the status of lawmakers in the state is delivered. The former local government and other politicians loyal to WIke went into the streets for the second time on Tuesday, against the counsel of the police, that there should not be any form of protests to avoid a hijack by hoodlums. Johnson who spoke to TNN over the telephone said although it was painful that a life has been lost as a result of the protest, the blame should go to the deceased for following people blindly into the road in the name of protests. He said it was worrisome that the pro-Wike protesters decided to embark on what he called meaningless and senseless protests in the state, when security operatives had earlier warned against such acts. He recalled that the TUC, NULGE and the NLC which had threatened to embark on similar protests had suspended their planned action after the police issued the advice. Johnson said it was shameful and ironic that even when a court of competent jurisdiction has given judgment annulling any amendment to the state’s local government law on tenure extension for the immediate past local government chairmen, the chairmen still felt some sense of entitlement and were interrupting the peace of Rivers State because they wanted to show how loyal they were to their godfather. Wike and his cohorts want a state of emergency so bad in Rivers state but it won't work.. |

Explosion kills pro-Wike protester as former 23 LG chairmen want police continued blockade of secretariatsA middle-aged protester among the pro-Wike group on Tuesday was reportedly killed by an explosion he was alleged to be carrying while in a protest in Port Harcourt.
The incident which caused pandamonium was said to have happened in front of Hotel Presidential in the heart of Port Harcourt while the victim was trying to discharge the dynamite.
The victim, whose identity is yet to be confirmed was among protesters mobilised by top political leaders from the different wards of Obio/Akpor showed their solidarity for the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike in a protest march.
The 23 former local government chairmen have mobilised their supporters to protest the continued occupation by the different local government secretariats following the disagreement emanating between them and the Rivers State government over the expiration of their tenure and the appointment of caretaker committee to replace them.
An eyewitness account, the corpse of the victim was taken away hurriedly as security agents trooped to the location where the incident occurred.
The eye witness who refused to give his name for security reasons said the procession was led by Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ogundu Chinda, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and former Council Chairman, George Ariolu.
The procession is the Obio/Akpor Local Government version as similar processions had been held in the Port Harcourt City and Ikwerre local government areas with similar messages to the police.
The Obio/Akpor protesters later converged at the Rumueme Civic Center in Port Harcourt, where they demanded that the Inspector General of Police, continued to occupy the councils and not succumb to any form of intimidation.
They openly expressed their support for the Minister of the FCT Wike.
While addressing the crowd, outgone chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, George Ariolu said they were in support of peace and order in the state.
He said, “As the governor said, there is no sacrifice too much for peace. But there is no peace without justice. You must govern by the rule of law. Therefore, we are in support of governance by law not by discretion, not by impunity.
“Rivers is a state that complies with law and order. We are in support of the position of the Nigerian police. The inspector general under President Tinubu, has the right to bring peace to Rivers State, even when there are provocative actions that could lead to the breakdown of law and order.
“And so for us, we want to encourage the inspector general and his men, to continue to bring peace and order to Rivers state. We want to call on all, to abide by the rule of law. Let public office holders understand that they must obey the law and order. And as a people, we are taking a peaceful walk of the local government this morning, to talk to the people, and to demonstrate our support for peace and order.”
It was the same message that his counter part in Ikwerre local government area, Samuel Nwanosike lead his own supporters to give the Area Commander of the police with his team at the council secretariat at Isiokpo.
He was seen addressing the police and the crowd encouraging the police to maintain their occupation of the secretariats as he claimed the his tenure as the chairman of the council still has a little above 5 months to expire having been extended according to him by the Amaewhule-led state house of assembly.
Meanwhile, the reaction of the Rivers State police command to the explosion was being awaited as at the time of filing this report.
The PPRO, Grace Iringe-Koko was yet to respond to inquiries from our reporter in Rivers State. https://tribuneonlineng.com/just-in-explosion-rocks-port-harcourt-kills-protester-carrying-dynamite/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR0ExmNm_nM2lPpSFDym6xLtQp3mWqF_pKqa6mKxfj2KfECY_vCGPFp7Q48_aem_rKjWIc7wsg-_gIUH-yeY3g

Press Statement 21st June, 2024
RIVERS STATE REPS CAUCUS DISOWNS HON. DUM DEEKOR OVER ATTACK ON G60 SPOKESPERSON IKENGA IMO UGOCHINYERE
SAYS RIVERS PEOPLE/CAUCUS PROUD OF IKENGA IMO UGOCHINYERE’S UNQUENCHABLE COMMITMENT IN DEFENCE OF DEMOCRACY
DELUSION OF GRANDEUR BY DUM DEEKOR
The Rivers State Caucus at the House of Representatives read with dismay a statement purportedly issued by the member representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency, Hon. Dumnamene Dekor calling for the discipline of the Coordinator of the G-60 Lawmakers in the Green Chamber, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere over his position on vexed issues in the polity.
While we wouldn't stand against the popular phrase: ''everybody is entitled to his opinion'', we refused to collectively accede to Dum Deekor's self serving stands as he has never been elected by the Rivers State Caucus to speak on our behalf.
It is a trite knowledge and backed by precedence that the Leadership of the Rivers State Caucus in the House of Representatives and the National Assembly are based on seniority. Hon Dum Deekor being a second term lawmaker cannot arrogate to himself the position of Caucus Leader in the midst of 3rd and 4th term lawmakers.
For the records, Deekor was properly elected in 2019 haven lost his seat in 2015 at the Court of Appeal which barred him from being a member of the 8th Assembly. He was recently reelected in 2023 to serve his second term in the House. This alone disqualifies him to jostle for the leadership of the Rivers State Caucus.
We call on the general public to discountance Dum Deekor's statement as vituperations of a gord being.
The National Assembly is not guided by Village Council's rules and as such everyone reserves the right to make contributions inline with his innate conviction. Hon Ugochinyere has in the estimation of right thinking Nigerians proven himself in the act of quality representation.
Signed. Rep. Awaji-Inombek D. Abiante, PhD
Leader, Rivers State Caucus, House of Representatives. |

kedeojo: Leave them to their ways. I don't support wike and his group because some of us has been calling out wike's dictatorial behavior when he was governor but most of the Obidients on this platform, always support him because they were on the same page against Apc and Buhari. Today he is not their favourite cos he didn't support their choice of president. Wike always influence judgement then using federal powers and he will also do same now with federal powers. His group will definitely win cos someone like Wike fight to finish. I don't know how some people reason here honestly. You supported wike's impunity as governor then and you are condemning him now, because you people are not on same page politically with him. Stop this nzogbu nzogbu politics cos it make you people look stupid in the eyes of others. I don't like Wike up till now cos is a very desperate politician but will not condemned him about the power tussle in rivers. If sim win the battle I would genuinely like but I will not take side cos some of you has no moral right to question Wike, the same person you supported back then. If wike has supported Obi, even if he didn't win by now you people will be calling Fubara ingrate and all manners of name. Sanusi comes in mind. You all know how you people call him unprintable names just because he alerted Nigerians about missing huge amount the nnpc could not account for. Nigerian economy started witnessing downtown and some state couldn't pay salary under Jonathan but when Buhari came he failed to stabilize it by his bad policies. There is no way we could have substain the subsidy and that was why the three major candidates said if they win, they will remove subsidy immediately. Some of us here are not partisan but a concern Nigeria who will speak truth all the time. I don't have any political party membership card but support candidate based on my conviction and not with sentiment. Our current deputy governor, we voted for him as a house of rep last year because we were fed up with the incumbent and some pdp and Apc members worked against their candidate but the Apc man just used his loyalties to cause unleash terror in a ward with voters of the current DG and it was cancelled. That gave him another return ticket but even the DG has now join Obaseki who he criticize so much of neglecting our constituency. Today I am supporting the Apc man for governor because Obaseki is so elequent in English and one of the most governors but he is not elequent in performance and they are telling us that his candidate is more elequent, is that not a disaster waiting for us. Senator Okpeboho is know to be a philanthropist and a grassroot man over the years and he knows the people's need because he has demonstrated it in the past by bringing succor to his senatorial district. Today is popularity is soaring everyday because people can see hope and when ask any questions, he gives frank answers. Asue was asked by some option leaders in my LGA about development. He lied by saying he will create LCDA only for us. So you will tell all the members of assembly who comes from another constituency and LG that you want to create and LCDA in just one LGA out of 18. When Okpeboho was asked he said is not possible but he will rather attract development. I agree with this wholeheartedly however for me, I've never really liked Wike. I've always criticised him even when he was against Apc / tinubu because I knew it was borne out of selfishness. I've always seen through him. So reserve the right to criticise him as I e always been consistent on that. |

Moreover, any political contracts and considerations Sim accepted to before Wike picked him should as a matter of integrity be adhered to. Afterall, he is aiming for 8years as governor, he should have allowed the first 4 years as per agreement.
Except on sharing of Rivers commonwealth, Sim should have kept his side of the bargain for this first term.
Sim is a looter like Wike. He is just an upcoming looter who would become a serial looter soon. Not true! If I go into a stupid gentleman agreement with you, I won't come and cast it before the whole world BUT I WONT KEEP TO IT ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS A STIFFLING AGREEMENT. if sim opens his mouth and tells you what that agreement was about, you'll stone Wike if you see him. |

ddippset: Common let's use common sense here..
You think party membership register is something you wake up and clean everyday like a kindergarten classroom board?
Political parties do register update from time to time and I assure you it it not everyday.
When a person defects their name remains in the register until the next register update which could even be 6 months later.
So stop trying to prove anything with these your half facts.
And stop saying "they never defected" Cus you're not 'talking' to kids here.
It will be better you just say, they defected but they will try to wriggle their way out with the help of the compromised PDP.
Was it not the same PDP that was shouting in the early days that the 27 lawmakers had ceased to be their members and called on INEC to conduct elections to fill the vacant seats?
Until Wike and the 27 realized that they were going to lose the case and made a u turn and started making a deal with Damagun?
We are not children here..
Only the compromised judiciary we have in this country can save those 27 lawmakers... simple and short! |
