No man is perfect, so i don't see the reason why the Yorubas have to defend him totally at all cost. He was human and made some mistakes that is generating all the criticisms from the Igbos so we should all understand that. Now i think it is wrong to compare these people and say one is greater than the other. Lets just leave it at the point where we just analyze the actions they took and visions they were trying to fulfill etc .
So IMO i believe he was a great leader, i like the good things he did and i would not look at it from the angle you guys are pointing to ( Did he do it for his people or for Nigerian's). I just simply want to look at him and the good things he did to make a judgment that he deserve the praise he is getting now. Then to say he is greater than the others or that he was the best is really out of line in such situations.
See my father gave me the best education he could afford, trained me to be a honest and hardworking man. Instilled common sense and wisdom into me, helped me to be what i am today. Feed me, cared for me and provided for all my needs but does that make him the best or greatest father? Does that imply that he has no equal? Am i the most successful man or earth because of my father's actions? or are the yorubas and igbos the most advanced people on earth because of their leaders?
I know we might want to look at it from the angle that, what is the best gift a leader can give to his people? is it education (free or paid ) ?, self awareness and identity and many more. The two opposing tribes in question (Igbo and Yoruba ) are doing fine today in every aspect of life so what is the bases in putting our past leaders into such comparisons? or stoking all these unnecessary wars and hatred? |

nearest: Well on the bomb, like i read somewhere, the israelis have provided bunkers for the citizens within the reach of the missiles from gaza and before these missiles hit there are warning systems that give them enough time to evacuate, but the question you should consider is what brought this situation? If the palestinians have a state of their own would all these be happening?, on the captured soldier, HAMAS will be willing to use him in prisoner exchange, dead or alive. I get your point but mine is why throw bombs into isreal? because they have bunkers and warning systems does not mean they are living a normal life? Have you faced a situation where you have to run 20 times a day because of these bombs? About gilad schalit, i am not concerned what they want to use him for either for prisoner exchange or what ever. These three years that he has been captured, they have not allowed any access to him, parents, education, red cross etc but everyone is silent about him. What you asked is what i have asked as well, the goal should be to resolve the crisis and whatever we are seeing, from the blockade, bombing, capturing prisoners and killing unharmed civilians is not our concern. Resolve the problem and all other things will take care of themselves. Hope you are not trying to put all the blame on Israel? try to read about the past efforts in resolving this crisis and the history of this situation. |

Beaf: That matter hasn't calmed down, its just off the front pages. If anything, the bad blood has intensified; one of those shot is an Australian and there are several Aussies from the flotilla in Israeli detention;
http://bigpondnews.com/articles/TopStories/2010/06/01/Aussies_remain_in_Israeli_detention_468637.html I know but i mean in the days to come, it will calm down and the crisis will be solved maturedly. Now everyone is just trying to make statements which IMO will not even be part of the final resolution. FYI - two more ships are still on their way and the isreali navy just said they will be prepared and armed to repeat this same actions they are being condemned for. All these outcry will never stop the blockade trust me. http://www.jpost.com/Israel/Article.aspx?id=177134'Next time we'll use more force' By YAAKOV KATZ, AP AND JPOST.COM STAFF 06/01/2010 13:41
Navy prepares for expected arrival of 2 more activist ships. Talkbacks (2) Israel will use more aggressive force in the future to prevent ships from breaking the sea blockade on the Gaza Strip, a top Navy commander told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.
"We boarded the ship and were attacked as if it was a war," the officer said. "That will mean that we will have to come prepared in the future as if it was a war."
RELATED: Analysis: Israel's PR machine fails again Editorial: The rush to judgment The anonymous comment came the day after the Israeli Navy raided a flotilla of international aid ships headed to the Strip. Nine activists were killed in the raid, and dozens were injured.
The flotilla which arrived late Sunday night was comprised of six ships, and another two ships, including The Rachel Corrie, were expected to attempt to enter Israeli waters in the coming days. |

When will all these humanitarian aid agencies including the red cross go and deliver aid to gilad schalit the Israeli soldier captured by hamas? Let me see how they will break the hamas blockade, the same turkey shouting is still bombing northern iraq (kurds). nearest: seriously all nations should condem the hardship put on civilian gazans. And what happens after condemnation? i understand your point but we should always look at the bigger picture. There is a crisis between isreal and gazans, why not solve it instead of looking at only one side of it. What is your take on the bomb the gazan's are dropping into isreal and what will you say about gilad schalit situation? |

Thank you for your answer. I used the word "undocumented immigrants" because (like many others) I reject the expression "illegal immigrants". I see that our views on the deportation issue are very different. I will not try to convince you to change your mind. I will limit myself to three questions (which I don't expect you to answer): 1. Are you of the same opinion if the immigrant has lived in the host country for years ? If s/he founded a family in this country ? Or if s/he simply fell in love with someone living in this country ? Would you be of the same opinion if you knew that the immigrant is universely considered as a good-hearted and hard-working person who brings a positive contribution to his/her community ?
2. Would you say the same if, say, your brother or sister, or a close friend, was an undocumented immigrant in danger of deportation ?
3. Have you ever seen the film "Blame It on Voltaire" by the French-Tunisian director Abdellatif Kechiche (it is also known under the titles "It's Voltaire's fault" and "Poetical Refugee" ? If not, I warmly recommend it to you (and all others). Not only it is a magnificent and profound film, but it also asks very important questions on undocumented immigration and the deportation of undocumented migrants.[/quote]There are some people who are not flexible in the way they reason sometimes and that is not so good. |

Politics › Nigerian House Of Rep Members Clash Over Allowance by Pharoh(op): 6:15pm On May 26, 2010 |
The House of Representatives leadership yesterday averted an outright confrontation with members amid allegations that it withheld approval for more funds that would raise members’ quarterly allowance to N42 million.
Anxiety rose at Tuesday’s sitting, which was the first to be held after allegations that lawmakers asked for a new allowance package were made public.
Up we go
Members, according to sources who were part of the House closed-door meeting two weeks ago, tried to convince their leadership on why the current N27.2 million allowance they receive every four months, needs to be reviewed upwards.
Short of funds apart from that appropriated for allowances, lawmakers understand the implication and have encouraged the Speaker, Dimeji Bankole, to go ahead and draw funds from other sources to the tune of N15.1 billion.
Mr. Bankole, according to sources close to him, is uncomfortable with the suggestion and has withheld his assent even after he orally agreed with the members.
However, he and his deputy, Usman Nafada, face an impeachment threat if they fail, the sources say.
But the House spokesperson, Eseme Eyiboh, who heads the committee on Media, denied the reports, saying the Speaker has no such powers to unilaterally raise pay, and so cannot be expected to do same.
Yesterday’s plenary was the first after the reports became public.
The notion gained fillip when Mr. Bankole failed to show up at the sitting, and Mr. Nafada had to conduct proceedings.
After preliminary procedures, Independence Ogunewe, a member representing Ahiazu Mbaise, Imo State, claimed his privilege as a lawmaker had been breached, and said he could only disclose his worry if Mr. Nafada ordered a closed-door session.
“What I am talking about, affects me, affects you and affects other members, it is not for the public,” he told said.
Targeting the Speaker
Mr. Nafada however insisted that the matter be discussed openly. “Go ahead and say it, say it, or you meet me in my office,” he said repeatedly, rejecting the option of an executive session, and pushing the session into a row that lasted more than 15 minutes.
Both lawmakers were then approached by colleagues, who prevailed on them to resolve the issue peacefully.
Sources indicate that Mr. Nafada’s effort against the closed-door sitting was in furtherance of an alternative belief that the agitation for new allowances, when made open and available to the media, would be severely weakened.
However, Mr. Ogunlewe finally apologised to the Deputy Speaker, who subsequently ordered for an executive session that lasted for more than one and a half hour. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5572953-146/reps_avert_clash_over_allowance_.csp |

Drums, whistles, chants
They brought drums and banners: "Enough of police violence", "Your system murdered immigrants. Police killed 23 May 2010 year."
- Police chasing those who toil hard to earn their livelihood. There is no such category as a man illegally. Open borders, closed rule! - Shouted through loudspeakers.
- Nigerians say they have already been attacked by the police. Witnesses say the shot was not the one who fled, tried to explain that he stood in defense of a colleague. A lot of people from the Stadium is here legally, have a family. They have traded in the bazaar to survive - he told the young man. He did not want to introduce myself.
Suddenly, someone threw: - Come to the Grenadier.
The demonstrators marched Street. Zamoyski and Grochowska. They walked down the street, beat the drums and whistled. Chanted through a megaphone: "One, two, three, four. Enough of the hell of racism", "Stop police violence."

Nigeria: We're not criminals
Before the police station in Grochow demonstrators shouted to release all those detained in Sunday's riots. Officers from the windows recorded picket. After a few minutes came out a few uniformed policemen. One of them approached the demonstrators. He asked who is the organizer. He heard that it was so spontaneous. The crowd chanted: "Police have blood on their hands." Police officers returned to the police station.
The crowd also appeared Nigerians. Several spoke. They said that the officer who fatally shot their fellow countryman, insulted them earlier. - Threatened to kill - he told one of them.
Another black man - We are not criminals. Do not trade in drugs, cigarettes, alcohol. We sell najki and trainers. Counterfeit goods are everywhere, but why shoot at people for selling counterfeit goods? Do not give up, we want justice. Killed our brother. We will go to the European Union.
After an hour before the police station appeared in dozens of officers in uniform and in mufti. They were policemen in helmets. Around the street zaparkowało dozen cars. It started legitimated. People were calm, handed their instruments. After hours. 21 all dispersed.
Wives of the prosecution
Detained in Sunday's riots were yesterday interrogated by the prosecutor's office in Prague Bródnowski. At the news of the husbands were waiting for their wives. - I am eight months pregnant, I have a 2.5-year old child. The second day trying to find out where is my husband. There is no information - complained Alinoch Agnes, the wife of one of the Nigerians.
Krukowska Catherine, the wife of another detainee, told me that chair. 6 in the morning the police came to the house. - They asked whether the husband takes drugs and beats me. As we waited here, police officers, joking, we recorded the cell.
There was also a deadly postrzelonego Nigerian wife with three small children. Only the eldest daughter, said what happened. - No one offered me help. I do not even told me that my husband was killed. They asked to go home - claimed. That is the translation from google |
