iCool: My Transcript - Approval was today.
Thank you all for your congratulatory messages. The winning started with arrriving early at the venue, interviewers were not settled yet, their blue paper issuance software never boot finish.
The smart lady in front of me (I think she was Abimmbolar) answered her questions neatly and got approved - nice way for the VO to 'start his hand'. I tot mine would be a breeze and it was - I went in after her.
I was glad I didn't have to pay the 64k again and then travel all the way to Lagos.... I remembered the song 'You Made a Way' by Travis Greene as I walked out....
A very big thanks to all those that comment here frequently, you keep the thread alive. You know yourselves, God will reward you richly!
A huge thanks to all those that posted and will post their transcripts, you do not know how much you have sowed into our lives. Without you all, I wouldn't have been able to compile transcripts for part 10 and easily get my approval today - please keep this going on.
Special thanks to meritdee (compiled Part 7) and ecoleco (compiled part 11). We need more people like you. Thank you all.... Oluwa by Eze. congratulations |

teamf: read this
Hello everyone. i saw this thread last week just days before my interview. Was at d embassy on friday 5th December. Here is how it went down. V0: Hi good morning and smiling to me Me: Good morning i replied smiling back at her V0: How was ur nite Me: It was fine thanks and urs? V0: It was great. V0: So ur goin to university of xyz me: Yes i am for my undergraduate degree in xyz V0: ok. How did u get to know about the school me: my professor referred the school to me due to the school 's ongoing research on my field of study and i also went online to research further on the school (for my mind i knew that was a lie buh anything to make my case look strong would be chipped in) V0: When did u finish ur secondary education me: 2006 V0: So wat have u bin doing since then? ( i was prepared for this question since i was going for my 2nd undergraduate degree) me: Well, i finished my secondary education in 2006, gained admission to a reputable federal university in d western part of Nigeria also in 2006, graduated in 2011, went for the mandatory national youth service in 2012, finished it in 2013 and started writing my professional exams in my new field. V0: So you have bin under continuous educational environment since you finished your secondary education in 2006 me: Yes i have V0: How many schools did you apply to me: 5 schools V0: Oh really? Which schools me: i recited the schools like a poem V0: So why did you choose this particular school ME: The school is d best ranked among the 5 schools that i applied to in my field of study and am also particularly interested in the school 's ongoing research in the area of forensic and fraud as it relates to business management and internal control. V0: Wow. Am impressed. So who is going to sponsor you me: My dad V0: what does he do me: he is a business executive at xyz multinational company in Ogun state V0: Oh really? **Punches her keyboard for some time**Your going to need this at other stages during your travel and stay in the United States so keep it safe alright***returns my i -20 to me while smiling** and your visa will be ready in... (at this point i wasn't even sure what else she was saying cos of happiness) me: Ok thanks. i then collected the 2 white papers that she gave me. one was address of pick up location and the other was a flyer on orientation at the embassy for intending students. NB// i wasn't asked why i wanted to do a second undergraduate degree, or my toefl or ielts or what is the salary of my dad or his bank account or proof of his ability to sponsor me. i believe from the little i saw that embassy must have already made up their minds at least 50% on whether to issue a Visa or not and d interview is just to convince and confirm their initial assessment of the application. However, the most important factor is God. If he says yes, no one can say no. God bless you all. Success to others. Like seriously... The Lord shall grant everyone of us looking forward to such testimony. We shall all see favour and get our visa approved in Jesus name. |

Folsy: i'd like to say a very thanks to u guyz.. Part 10 transcript helped alot; especially with reference to answering the question 'Y that school'.. Which I learnt how to answer by using the tips from this platform. I was advised to answer, stating that I was encouraged to attend a certain school by a graduate from the school who is currently utilizing the skills and knowledge he acquired in Nigeria, secondly I also stated research work that's currently been done in my department and my excitement in been part of that. And above all, thanks to God.
Me: Good morning.. . ( passed my passport and i20 already, didn't wait to be asked) VO: y ETSU Me: While working as a medical doctor at INEC, I had the privilege of working with the medical director who happens to be an ETSU graduate hence galvanized me to study public health with a concentration in Epidemiology as he has done and contributed significantly to the reduction in the incidence rate of Child health morbidity and morality. He worked with the current Epidemiology HOD at ETSU in a research titled.. Secondly, EtSu is recognized for it's research skills recognized by its collaboration with John Hopkins University in a reaseach aimed at reducing COPD incidence rate. (at this point, he had already started typing and I guess approving my visa application ) VO: who's sponsoring u? Me: dad, myself, EtSu and a very close family friend who played a vital role in funding my medical school training. VO: I can c u currently have a visiting visa but it was gotten in Ghana, y? Me: ( I chuckled) I schooled in Ghana for 6 years and worked for2years. VO: ur visa has been approved.. .(hands me some documents for pick up)
I'd say what really helped was my 1st response to his question. Prior to my interview, he had rejected several peeps and I prayed to God that I shouldnt be sent to him; but hey.. . God took control. From what I over heard in the denials b4 me, corrections will be; it's better ur sponsor does not currently have a sufficient balance for ur tuition but rather has an active account with money going in and out well than a sudden deposit of money, as 1 of the applicant was questioned for close to 15mins based on a sudden deposit of 19 million naira into her dads account. Also, try not to repeat the VOs question b4 u answer him/her; rather listen to the question, think about it for a sec, compose urself and then answer strategically ad they may not be willing to listen to all ur reasons so bring the most important 1 first. Also, don't show any doc if u haven't been asked to show it; it only shows ur nervous. So when I was asked about who will be my sponsor, I answered and didn't show any bank statement. Above all, trust God and remain calm, just because the 7 or so peeps that were in front of u were rejected, doesn't mean u will b rejected, as was in my case. Here's wishing u guyz all the best. God richly bless the organizers of this group. #signing out.... Congratulations |

Airich01: November 17. This was the day i had my first interview and i flopped. I prayed a little tapped my phone around, texrem was busy he was able to only help with about one or two mocks ,so i revised alone but that wasn't the cause of the failure. The inability to adequately defend what i was going abroad for was the cause of the failure. My sister said we should fast ,i cut our fasting inbetween it was dry fast. The first interview went thus; me: good morning sir. vo:good morning vo: why are you going abroad ? me:for my bachelor's degree in Consrtuction management. vo: why this school: me:i choose this school because of their.... because of the way their syllabus is structured. (i felt i had killed it before he killed me too) vo:how is the course's syllabus structured? me:opens mouth, searching my mind like google. i finally said it is structured in. a way that it helps me....and thats's how he said he can't approve it.That i haven't proven that i'm going as an immigrant.i got the blue paper.i got a damn blue paper. Interview 2.... January. what messed this up for me? This time around i wasn't prepared mentally, emotionally, spiritually or prepared at all. My dad was in the hospital bed after slipping on the staircase and falling and i was attending to him,and i slept at 12 woke up at 4,....someone who's taken care of a neurosurgical patient will understand. On the day of the interview i didn't pray,i was bitter, unprepared and all sorts. i got to Walter Carrington. And here's how me and the vo conversed...... me:good morning vo:good morning. me:how are you today? vo:fine and you? me:i'm fine sir. vo:so,why are you going to the USA? me: To pursue my bachelor's degree in Construction management. vo: why US? me: The USA is a country that is well fecognized for it's academic excellence and enhanced learning experienced, also the USA has one of the best educational system in the world offering flexible educational opportunities accross 4000 institutions. vo:tell me abut your school.... me:..... i did, explicitly. vo: Is your brother in the US? me: yes,he is a.... (now pause, had i shut my fat beak here i'd be in the US already. i saw it in his eyes he wanted to give me so bad,but what...check out my stupid response after the 'yes' where i should have shut up.) ...he is a citizen and he is living well...He works for bla...bla...bla... and i am not going there because of him but to pursue my career. Now in what sense is this wrong In the sense that my education isn't the career. So he moved his hands down picked that same useless blue paper making it number 2,.... Wow... Thanks for sharing this |

After much denial i was fed up and just didn't want to apply again, but my brother urged me. I did,and this time i was FURIOUS and determined.
vo:good morning. me:how are you today? vo:fine and you? me:i'm fine sir. vo:so,why are you going to the USA? me: To pursue my bachelor's degree in Construction management. vo: why US? me: The USA is a country that is well fecognized for it's academic excellence and enhanced learning experienced, also the USA has one of the best educational system in the world offering flexible educational opportunities accross 4000 institutions. vo:tell me abut your school.... me:...I did, explicitly. vo: why your school?? me: i chiose this school because their contruction management course is accredited by the American Council For Construction Education, which is a global advocate for construction education. Also,at this school i'd get to learn management skills which will enable me learn how to manage and coordinate policies ,equipment, budget and schedule as well as the safety of general public and employees, also i picked this school because i was given scholarship and their tuition is affordable. vo:tell me about your school me: this school is a public four year university, located in... they are part of the xyz state colleges and universities system, they also have over 125 student bodies and they offer 75 majors.Established in...., its is part of the tric-college university system... vo.... i am going to approve your visa.

mjksho: To follow the tradition of this great section on Nairaland, I will share my transcript with the hope that this might help someone someday.
Here we go, I arrived Walter Carrington at 5:50am as I have booked for the 6:30 window. With what I have heard from previous transcripts as per 'shunting' the queue, I just quickly used style to get to the front of the people gathered there since they have not lined up.
6:30 came and I was number 10 on the queue. No wahala. Prechecks done and I'm still number 10 on the line to see VO.
My time came and I was made to stand at Window 5, the second person to be interviewed by the very young and beautiful VO. She denied the first person after like 7 minutes. The Asian guy had denied 2 already and was drilling the 3rd guy. I was not even bothered. I kept looking at my Oxblood brogues and Pepper red trousers with one hand inside my suit jacket, forming lady killer. My time came eventually. thanks, and congratulations VO: Good morning Me: (with the most sincere smile in the world as VO na fine white lady) Good morning, how are you doing?
VO: (She smiles back and my heart skipped a beat) Pass me your passport, Sevis receipt and I-20. VO: What school are you going to? Me: Tennessee Tech, Cookeville
VO: Where did you do your undergraduate Me: OAU
VO: When? Me: mentioned it
VO: What course did you study? Me: Chemical Engineering
VO: What degree are you getting? Me: Masters in Chemical engineering with a focus on renewable energy.
VO: Did you do any exams? Yes: GRE and IELTS.
VO: How many schools did you apply to? Me: Five
VO: what are your scores? Me: told her.
VO: What will this degree do for you? Me: (Took a deep breath because I was ready to download ) First of all, a masters degree in Chemical engineering is a requirement to take up a lecturing job at OAU where I intend to lecture upon graduation. (VO nods in agreement). Secondly, a masters degree in this school will expose me to research on Microbial Fuel Cell technology which is far better than Biomass Gasification which is what is the case where I currently work. Fuel cells are cleaner, bla bla bla.
VO: Where do you work? Me: mentioned it. A renewable energy firm.
VO: What are your duties? Me: ( something wey I put for my DS-160 by myself) I monitor key indicators like BOD, greenhouse gases, etc. I write technical report on this and that. I also conduct EIA on New projects.
VO pauses to ask colleague something. I don't know if it's about my case. But me no care, I didn't stop looking at her any point so she go know say I dey her case. She comes back after a minute.
VO: who is sponsoring you? Me: my dad
VO: what does he do? Me: mentioned it.
VO: Do you have a relative in the US? Me: No.
VO: I'll be... (I couldnt hear anything)...3 days.
She brought out white paper from a pile nearby. I just smiled at her and left.
My advice:
1. Don't rush to answer questions. Calm down. When you are calm, you will be able to articulate your thoughts. Even though I'm naturally articulate, I took short pauses before answering. The interview is not as bad as many have painted it to be.
2. All these USnews and google stuff don cast. The chinese guy drilled someone on this. I think saying you found your schools in some professional journal is way better.
3. If your school fee is very high and the school is not Ivy League level, be prepared to defend it especially if you have no scholarship. Chinese guy also drilled someone on it. The guy was clueless.
4. Don't pay attention to people being denied when you enter that room. Face your front. You know why you are there.
5. Don't cram your answers. You may forget. Rehearsing your answers is what helps.
6. Believe in something. I believe in God, prayer, and preparation. I fasted and prayed for grace because I don't want shocking questions. Believing in God helped me to stay confident even though I was prepared.
7. Refer somebody here. I probably wouldn't have known how best to answer some questions if I had not found this room. I have read over 40 transcripts here. God bless all of you here.
Congratulations to you, I hope you will find my transcript useful for you. Your success is around the corner. Cheers. thanks, and congratulations. great ife! |

in the light of this, i want to ask for more respond and request for visa interview this time, please nairalanders. * a friend suggest, i go to the embassy for visa education that they usually give every Wednesday by 10am (probably that will give me more opportunity to ask questions and regain my confident nto get the visa.
Nairalanders, what do you suggest i do to have a better chance of redeeming my postgrad. study plan in the US this year. |

cmbagwu: Hi guys, I introduced a family friend turned sister to this thread and she got her visa approved so I had to persuade her to send her transcript so others can learn a thing or two. Please find transcript below.... quite long though.
Ok, well I'm just a silent person on this thread, joined exactly 2wks ago, and u guys have been amazing, I didn't do any mock interview persay, more like I kept on going over transcripts and asking myself questions. Visa was approved yest 7am appointment, 12th June 2017. I saw all of u, green and white native, the guy that was interviewed after the guy that cried(chai I really felt for that guy, see as full grown man they weep). I also noticed the white pretty lady was giving blue papers, the oda 2 guys were giving white papers. I noticed that the chinese guy was drilling pple with quest . I was interviewed by the chinese guy. Before I go on with my transcript, please note, Vo's are tayad of same old story from what I observed while on que. E.g xxxx recommended the skull to me, us news, Google.Com, Princeton review... " it perfectly fits my career goal or area of interest". I actually heard a vo say "that's what you all say, tell me summin else, it now looks like a rehersed line to them. Now they wanna hear summin diff and unique not the regular. There was a lady that was denied cos, her lines looked rehearsed, even if she answered all the questions correctly. Well someone would say, so I was busy observing pple, yes I was and I observed carefully while on the que till it was my turn with the Chinese guy, after he just denied a family of 5( though the wife was going as a student F1 and the husband and children were going as F2. I heard the Chinese guy telling her, that she didn't write any online tests that why is she lying.(I wonder ow he found out) he just told her he doesn't belive her test results, and that it doesn't look like she has plans of returning to Nigeria. She is Nurse practioner.
Ok so after all my plenty aproko jist wey nobody send me, my transcript goes:
Vo: Gd morn Me: Gd morn ow was nyt. Vo: Good, and urs Me: Great(all smiles) Vo: So why PVAMU? Me:I chose pvamu, cos the course structure of the schools mba prog, perfectly fits my area of interest and it also aligns with my career path. Vo: what do u mean by dat? Me:I mean i chose the school cos d courses cuts across diff biz discipline, which is my area of interest. Vo:oh pls tell me summn else, mba is a mgt course, and all schls mba prg cuts across diff biz discipline. ( at ds point I was nervous, i lost hope kinda, cos I felt the guy was not pleased with me at all, i ws thinkn God what else can I say make ds guy a little pleased with me.I was already saying I Don mess up) Vo:So u said u were particular about the school because u like the course structure, so what are ds courses( for my mind I say thank God, I fit answer this one. Me: I gave him like 6 courses.
Immediately I just continued talking, after listing the courses, that during my last visit to the Us in march, I had the opportunity of attendn a 2hr info session by the schl,(i did sha)for intending mba students and we were addressed by the asst Dean grad stud and the director college of biz.(I just needed him to hear this abeg, as him just dey strong face look me, so he cn be aware I hv travld bfr) Vo: so what did dey say Me: they said that the schools mba programme will bring great opportunities and equip us with......(I said plenty things here sha, at that point he was nodding his head, I said thank u Lord at least he is pleased with this answer) Vo: so what do u do Me: work with xx xx bank Vo: so tell me about ur bank what do u do for them Me: I work with the international trade finance unit, my major responsibilities are. .....(listed everything for him, im sure he was even tayad of my talk cos i do a lot were i work, it has a lot to do with international trade and business e.g imports, exports, i told him ow i talk with the comptroller of customs and ow i liaise with nafdac officials, and the FIRS team. ( nodding his head, he was kinda interested in my jist) Vo: Oh Interesting!! So what are ur plans after mba Me: I said after my mba, I would come back to my organisation, to work with d biz Dev team which has to do with emerging biz, were our focus is on the sme's, as we know in nig the sme's are major drivers of economic activities which is very critical to the growth of the economy, and also due to the recent circular released by cbn, were it was said that forex will be given to sme's dat intend to start import biz on a quarterly basis, there's gonna be an expansion for the sme's, so il be working on bringing innovative biz solutions to enable biz owners not only remain competitive in the market but also thrive to generate more revenue......(Na here I finish work, he was convinced at this point that this girl sabi her job function and would come back to implement her plans "story land", I just noticed he didn't cut me off, d way they cut pple off, he was feeling my jist) Vo: so are u married Me: yes Vo: who is xxxxxx(looks at my ds form finally cos all this while he was looking at me) Me: my hubby Vo: any children yet Me: not yet Vo: how long u been married Me: a year and half Vo: tell me about ur hubby( I say which kain wahaala be dis one, cos truth is I was tayad of talking, make dis guy free me joor) Me: he is xx yrs old and a director at xxxxx coy. Vo: I will be approving ur visa. ....bla bla bla...what's ur coy email(then he was typing, i wonder y he asked though, maybe for verification).
So pple of NL, no test question( cos I had low scores for my Gmat and was very worried that they may not give me cos of that), no sponsor quest. Not everyone is asked same quest. Then pple with scholarship that did very well in school, they have started requesting for transcript maybe for verification. Key point: speak intelligently and not some copied/rehearsed lines,(please know why u chose a school and why ur doing the course) They need to be convinced, that's the trick If the Chinese guy is interviewing get ready for drilling session, but he will give in the end...God bless us all, have a blessed day. this is great, thanks for sharing, congratulations. |

So I stayed in one of the hotels mentioned here: Semi Ramis on Hawley Street, Obalende. Room is ₦4.5k with A/C
Couldn't sleep, was just singing praises and asking God for favor (I need to stress this part)
Left the hotel around 4.30am, dropped my phone with the hotel receptionist.
Got to Walter Carrington around 4.45am. I was the first person there. I just started gisting with the MOPOL Officers there.
The whole process started around 6am
I was the second on the queue. The lady in front of me went to a white lady, while the Chinese guy called me.
VO: Pass me your i-20 and Intl Passport (no good morning orishirishi) I passed the docs.
VO: How did you get to know about the school?
Me: My cousin, who is an alumna of the school strongly recommend it and I also checked collegefutureboard and common app to see if the school meets my career goals.
VO: You are 24, why are you just going for your BSC?
Me: Upon graduation from Sec School in 2008, I did an OND in computer science for two years and a compulsory one year internship where I worked as a Data Entry Personnel. Then I went ahead to do an HND in the same course for two years. I later enrolled in computer school for a year and took my SAT in between.
VO: Why are there so many inconsistencies in your story? You just kept skipping programs, you didn't finish any. How am I sure you are going to finish your program?
Me: I did finish. Diplomas are not longer than 2 years and I did two before I went to Computer school?
VO: What's the name of the computer school?
Me: *I just went blank*
VO: What's the name of the computer school?
Me: The computer school is in Lagos.
VO: What is your major?
Me: Information Technology.
VO: How sure am I that you will come back? What will you be doing after the program?
Me: I intend working in a top tech company in Nigeria as a world class software developer, because we have just a few software developers in the country and I want to bridge that gap by becoming a solution provider.
VO: Be honest with me. Did you work at all? Just be honest.

sojax2cool: I suspect you are saying different thing compare to What you fill in your d160 form online. Like What you do in your place of work, where u work,or also the relationship of your current task at work to your choice of course for masters degree. Try to prepare very well and pray. Prayer can never be left out. OK, I will. Thank you and God bless you. |
