The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) was on Thursday in Abuja endorsed by a group of Christians from the northern states for the March 28 poll. The Christians, under the aegis of the Northern Christian Leaders Eagle-Eye Forum, led by Pastor Aminchi Habu, during the endorsement, presented Buhari with a copy of the Holy Bible. In an interview shortly after, Buhari said, “This is not the first time I am accepting Holy Bible publicly; this is not the first time. It is not even the second or third time. All these problems people are making because of religion are just of recent time and dimension. We, both Christians and Muslims, have been leading this country and there was no religious problem. “It is just now that somebody is creating these problems for us. I hope God will look after it. I told you this is not the second or third time I will be accepting Bible. This one (acceptance) is special because of the leadership of the church that made the presentation, that is the only difference. Otherwise, I do receive Bibles, they are in my libraries.” He promised Nigerians that if given the opportunity to serve the country again he would not promote the religious agenda of anyone. Buhari, who used the opportunity to clear the air on some of the allegations against him on religious matter, told the gathering that though a practising Muslim, he never belonged nor shared the views of any extremist group. He said, “Let me state this categorically, that I, Muhammadu Buhari, as an individual, and as president of this great country by the grace of God, given the opportunity to serve, have no personal religious agenda. And I will not entertain, consider or promote thereligious agenda of anyone. I will not condone any initiative that seeks to promote one religion over the other. Neither I, nor my party, or any member of my team has any desire or plan to Islamise or Christianise Nigeria or support anyone with such intention. “Although I am a practising Muslim and I have been so all my life but I have never belonged to, nor shared the views of, any extremist group. I am not even a cleric. I believe that religion is personal and private. www.punchng.com/news/christian-group-endorses-buhari-gives-him-bible/ |
The All Progressives Congress says Federal Government’s security agencies have bugged the mobile phones of a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and Senator Bukola Saraki. The party added that the telephones of its National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had also been bugged by the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government. The APC said this in a statement by Mohammed on Thursday. The statement read, “As the elections approach, we know the harassment and intimidation will be stepped up. We know our leaders, including the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, former Governor Bola Tinubu, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor Timipre Sylva, Senator Bukola Saraki and National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, are under surveillance and their phones have been hacked. “We are aware that several of them, especially the National Publicity Secretary, have been marked down for arrest in the days to come. “We know there are evil plots to frame some of them on trumped-up charges. We know our lives are in danger. But these and more will not deter us from continuing to act in the national interest or from seeking to effect change through the ballot box. “Yes, we are alerting Nigerians that if anything happens to us they should know where it is coming from, but for us there is no going back because we are resolute.” The party said its leadership and members will not be intimidated by the latest ‘antics’ of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration to harass and intimidate the opposition ahead of the elections. The party said the recent military siege to the house of Tinubu, the Imo State Government House and the police harassment of the APC’s presidential campaign spokesman, Garba Shehu, signifies desperation in the camp of the PDP. The APC thanked Nigerians for their immense and unwavering support, especially since the postponement of the elections. The party said, “We are glad that instead of weakening the resolve and enthusiasm of Nigerians, the Presidency-orchestated postponement has further galvanised them to be more determined not only to vote but also to defend their votes.” The APC called on Jonathan to remember the verdict of history and put his ‘dogs of war’ on a leash, saying that history will judge no one but him for the actions of his supporters, who are all acting in his name www.punchng.com/news/tinubu-saraki-amaechis-phones-have-been-bugged-apc/ |

As the presidential election enters its critical phase, the air is thick with accusation and counter-accusations about the candidates. In what is now desperation for Mr. Jonathan that he's loosing the edge,he and his attack dogs are in full throttle to pin on General Muhammadu Buhari the toxic label of hypocrite.Politics is synonymous with hypocrisy.Historically, the original hypocrites were the stage actors of ancient Greece who wore masks&made a profession of pretending to be something they were not.Similarly, politicians like the ancient Greek actors have tried to conceal some part of themselves–their checkered past, their private habits, their personal beliefs–have found themselves accused of hypocrisy. Truth be told, most politicians have many things to hide. I like to judge people who are judgmental. I'm intolerant of intolerant people.Mark twain was right when he observed that “Nothing so needs reforming as other people's habits.”Hypocrisy is a form of deception. To be a hypocrite is to be a fraud.Femi Fani-Kayode and Ayodele Fayose are frauds. Of the thugs and thieves that plague Jonathan administration the ones that struck me most forcibly are Femi Fani-Kayode the director of media and publicity of the Jonathan Campaign Organization and Ayodele Fayose the Ekiti State Governor. Their propagandists' roles have a comical aspect and it's an unbelievably childish act–so stupid, it's laughable. What disturbs me most about FFK and Fayose is the use of appearance of morality – more than morality, piety – to achieve heir immoral, impious ends. They represent extreme examples of reprehensible way of behaving. In Dante Alighieri's inferno, part of the Divine Comedy, hypocrites like FFK and Fayose have reserved seats in the eighth circle of hell. Hypocrites, says Dante, belong to “counterfeiters, seducers, flatterers, sorcerers, and simonists.” They are most damned, insists Dante. Hypocrites like FFK and Fayose are particularly dangerous to the soul. They don't practice what they preach. The two criminals are now something of a beer-parlor joke. They are people who lay down rules they couldn't possibly abide by themselves. They pretend to be pious but they are liars and thieves. FFK are Fayose are kind of hypocrites that Nigerians really detest much more than they hate the liars and adulterers and fools that populate the Nigeria political scene. The two unrepentant hypocrites are political hermaphrodites whose verbal acrobatics are motivated by purely insipid selfishness. The two popular treasury looters have tried to manipulate Nigerians' beliefs and induce action against Buhari by drilling their smorgasbord of lies into the people's head. The appalling compendium of lies that have been spewed forth by FFK and Fayose and their cohorts in defense of Jonathan's substantively indefensible record is breadth taking. They have employed images, slogans, and symbols to play on our prejudices, biases, and emotions. They have also tried but failed to rally Nigerians to action against Buhari by creating fear, distortion, confusion, and hatred by portraying Buhari as an abominable figure. They have demonized and dehumanized him: “Buhari is too old,” “Buhari is an illiterate,” “Buhari is a Muslim fundamentalist,” “Buhari is behind the Boko Haram,” “Buhari will islamize Nigeria.” In addition, they have resorted to stereotyping and scapegoating.Laced with irrational rationalization and oversimplification using glittering generalities, they use “plain folks rhetoric such as “shoeless,”“Transformation Agenda,” “No to Sokoto Caliphate,”etc.,to convince Nigerians that their ideas are of the people.Jonathan's policies and programs that are clearly contrary to the interests and values of Nigerians are being marketed to Nigerians as cure-all for our problems. The barrage of malevolent criticisms and lies by the two detestable rogues have nothing to do with Buhari's aversion to corruption his ability to get the job done, his caring and concern for the oppressed poor Nigerians.Instead, the shameless crooks raked up non-issues like age, high school diploma, religion, and other foolish distractions to divert attention of Nigerians from the bleak and barren six-year presidency of Jonathan. Sample of rambling denunciation of Buhari by FFK:“It is disingenuous for Buhari to say that he contested previous elections and that the issue of his qualifications did not arise. The fact that he got away with it in 2003,2007,and 2011 does not make it right.” “As long as he cannot produce that secondary school certificate,we believe that he is not qualified to run for the presidency of Nigeria.” “The implication of the action of this so-called “Mr. Clean” is nothing but perjury and we all know that this is grave criminal offense under our laws& constitution. We urge Buhari and his party to do the right thingsaharareporters.com/2015/02/09/whos-afraid-buhari-thugs-and-thieves-femi-fani-kayode-and-ayodele-fayose-bayo-oluwasanmi |
Professor Tam David-West, former Minister of Petroleum Resources, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to start preparing his hand-over note because his days in office as president of Nigeria are numbered. The reason, according to David-West, is because Jonathan’s party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will suffer a humiliating defeat in the hands of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections. “Jonathan should quickly look for shoes and go back to Otuoke. I have shoes in Ibadan and Abuja, I can give him some if he is in need of shoes. “Everywhere you go, you see signs that the end of this government, led by Jonathan, is very near. Honestly, I do not have anything against him, but a party and a man that can better manage Nigeria has appeared on the scene, and we have no choice but to save our country from an impending doom.” The elder statesman and Professor of Virology said Nigerians cannot continue to tolerate a government that is evidently confused and incapable of providing leadership. He warned that the drift in almost every sphere of our national life will continue if Jonathan is not shown the way out because, according to him, the president lacks the capacity to lead. David-West also called on President Jonathan to show Nigerians his doctoral thesis, and end the ragging controversy around his certificate. “I became a professor in 1974, so when I see a scholar I know. I have asked people to look for the PhD of Jonathan but I am yet to find it. I think he owes Nigerians an explanation because he is our president, Professor David-West said. saharareporters.com/2015/02/09/%E2%80%9Clook-shoes-quickly-and-go-back-otuoke%E2%80%9D-david-west-tells-jonathan |

LEADER of the Boko Haram insurgents, Abubakar Shekau, in new videos posted online on Monday, vowed that the group would defeat a regional force, comprising of Nigerian, Chadian, Cameroonian and Nigerien troops, confronting the Islamists in the North-East. Boko Haram on Sunday posted three video clips onYouTube. “Your alliance will not achieve anything. Amass all your weapons and face us. We welcome you,” Shekau said in a 28-minute speech in one of the videos. Troops from Nigeria have been backed by soldiers from Chad, Cameroon and Niger in recent weeks because of increased concerns about Boko Haram’s threat to regional security. In the second of the latest videos, images of the leader of the Islamic State group, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, are shown along with archive footage and a voiceover recalling a battle between British colonial soldiers and fighters from the Sokoto Caliphate in Northern Nigeria. He said, “We never rose up to fight Africa. We rose up to fight the world. “We are going to fight the world on the principle that whoever doesn’t obey Allah and the Prophet to either obey or die or become a slave.” The third video featured the “temporary” invasion of Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, on December 1, 2014. In the video, hundreds of insurgents in a convoy of Sports Utility Vehicles and motorcycles were seen led by an armoured personnel carrier driven through the Gujba Road. The insurgents later emerged in front of the Yobe State Government House along Maiduguri Road where an exchange of gunshots between them and soldiers ensued before the insurgents gained access into the premises. An unidentified spokesman, surrounded by hooded fighters later appeared in a bush where he showcased over 50 vehicles and ammunition, which he said were the “spoils of war” they got from Damaturu. He also debunked claims by the Nigerian Armed Forces that the December 1 attack by the group on Damaturu was repelled. “We had a field day in Damaturu, ate and dined, took what we wanted and thereafter drove out of the town at our own volition, with all the vehicles, ammunition and other things we wanted to take along,” he said. On Sunday, Boko Haram militants waged twin attacks in the town of Diffa in southeast Niger, opening a new front in its offensive after repeated attacks in Cameroon’s far northern region. On Saturday, Nigeria, Chad, Niger, Cameroon and Benin agreed to muster 8,700 troops, police and civilians to fight the group. But Shekau dismissed the size of the force, which had previously been set at about 7,500. “You send 7,000 troops? Why don’t you send 70 million? This is small. Only 7,000? By Allah, it is small. We can seize them one-by-one. We can seize them one-by-one,” he said in Arabic. He also directly threatened Chad’s President Idriss Deby, whose forces had attacked Boko Haram in the northeast Nigerian towns of Gamboru and Malam Fatori in recent days. Shekau’s challenge came after the United States said on Friday that Boko Haram could face a stronger test against more capable regional forces. The US estimated that Boko Haram had a core of between 4,000 and 6,000 fighters but well-equipped after raiding Nigerian Army facilities. Meanwhile, suspected Boko Haram fighters launched attacks on three communities in northern Cameroon, abducting more than 30 people, including those aboard a packed bus, residents said Monday. The assaults by the terror group came as other militants invaded a town in the neighbouring country of Niger for the third time in recent days, underscoring the growing regional havoc being wrecked by Boko Haram. In northern Cameroon, the fighters seized a bus with 20 people aboard late Sunday in Koza and then drove it back toward the Nigerian border, some 18 kilometres away, a resident, Bouba Kaina, told The Associated Press. Early Monday, another group of fightersattacked the Cameroonian town of Kolofata, looting food and livestock. The town was recently retaken by Chadian troops who have been helping the Cameroonian military fight Boko Haram.www.punchng.com/news/bharam-in-new-video-vows-to-defeat-multi-national-force/ |
