greenskittles: If you don't already use reddit, I think you should, and there are a few subreddits I'd like to share
r/gradadmissions for graduate admissions related questions
r/gradschool after being admitted
r/ *insert your school name here* e.g r/stanford. Some schools name their subs after something else e.g their mascot, for example the University of Washington's subreddit is r/huskies I think. I've already joined the Stanford chess team thanks to people I met there, and we meet every Sunday. So in case you don't know anyone, or have any questions peculiar to your particular school, you can always post there. As a prospective student of a school, you can also ask questions in their sub but not too often because it's mostly for people who are already members of that school.
r/GRE was VERY VERY HELPFUL in helping me stay motivated and prepared for the GRE, anytime I'd finished studying for the day I'd scroll through looking at questions people posted trying to see if I could answer them, and I also posted questions I thought were too hard for me when I needed help. Also, there are a lot of ambitious people there, so you'll feel equally motivated to post your own great score too.
r/toefl, not so much, it's really just a few Indians and people don't post often but maybe you might find it useful. Btw, if you can do well on the GRE, TOEFL should be a walk in the park
r/ApplyingtoCollege for undergraduate admissions related questions
There are lots more, and if you don't find what you're looking for there, Nairaland is always here to ask questions specific to the Nigerian situation.
cc phenomenalopeye because you ask a lot of undergrad related questions that not many people here seem to be able to answer. Thanks I really appreciate ❣️ |

Kimzylove: WAEC result or secondary school transcript(For a school that doesn't calculate GPA) which do you think is better for admission processing? Your waec result is just a supplementary material it's just a secondary certification exam You'll need to submit your transcript even though GPA is not evaluated Some schools will ask you to submit an evaluated transcript from a transcript evaluation agency, Some might not require any especially ivies I'll advice u to submit your transcript anyways because it shows all your pefromance in a long duration of time instead of just a one sitting exam And besides are you a prospective applicant into any undergraduate program? If yes what universities? So I can give you a detailed information as per University. |

Friedpotato: Yes most ivies don't ask for evaluation, according to what I know.
I know a lot of people accepted into schools without evaluation.
You should talk to your school on that. Thanks! |

We've got Ivy league schools e.g Yale Harvard Princeton.... Ivy plus Stanford MIT Caltech...... The three ivies, though I can't remember anyone under this category |
Travel › Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Phenomenalopeye: 8:46am On Jul 18, 2020 |
Friedpotato: depends on the school. Some schools won't accept no matter how good it is unless it's evaluated. Some wouldn't even accept if you use another agency aside WES. I think most ivy leagues would accept though. It depends on the school. So you mean most ivies would accept it without evaluation or have u seen anyone that was accepted without his/her transcript being evaluated?? Thanks! But since my school as stated the U.S equivalent of my grades that was recommended by NYC (New York City department of education) why would they still ask for it to be evaluated by WES which will cause me money and time I just pray the evaluation is waived |

Need Help
My high school grades on my transcript are in the traditional form A1 B2 B3 C4....
Is there any need for transcript evaluation because my school does calculate GPA
And it also stated the equivalent of it grades in the U.S grading system, that was recommended by NYC( New York City) department of education
The transcript is designed to meet international standards esp U.S & UK
Is there any need for evaluation by WES or any other transcript evaluation agency
Thanks!!! |

Nairaboi: Then both of you need a valid form of identification which means National ID card or Voters ID card. This should be original but often times it's almost akward that a child acquires a passport and the parents do not have unless the child is being sponsored. Yeah you're actually correct |

Nairaboi: The new passport is same price and no difference with the adult. Requirements are : consent letter, birth certificates of the children, you and your husband's data page that bear the same surname the children wants to answer, you can get letter of identification from your state laison office.
Bye bye What if both parents don't have international passport |

And you can also consider tutorial for better performance Thanks! But I think if I should register myself the cost will definitely reduce I need money!! According to the college board it costs $48 without essay approximately #20000+ And besides I've gotten an offer of #40000 from a tutorial center! So bro! Show me the way so I can register myself and save some change! Thanks!!! |

EncephalonPikin: Let me try to answer some of your questions. You can get procedures for registration and possible dates for the test on www.collegeboard.com. I think you can also check for the cost there depending on the kind of SAT you want to write (either with or without essay).
As for registering without an agency, I think it's only possible if you have someone outside the country to pay for you( I'm not sure about this, you can confirm).
No, you cannot take the test without an international passport.
You can buy the official college board study guide, Barron's SAT book, Kaplan's SAT book or whichever one might suit you. You can check www.pdfdrive.com to download these books for free. I'm pretty sure you'll find majority of them there and possibly others by different authors. I don't know which of them might be best for you but start with the official guide by College board, it kinda gives you a sense of how the test is. You can also register on Khan Academy to access free lessons, they'll help you greatly, I promise.
I'm not in Lagos but I doubt if there's anything like a best Centre, yours is to write your test and leave. Ensure the venue is conducive for you though.
Finally, ensure that SAT tests are still ongoing during this period before paying for anything. Thanks!!! I think I can pay through my bank it Allows me to purchase with any currency at the exact exchange rate |

drDoom3: 1. No safeties? These are schools that consistently reject students with 9As in waec, 4.0 GPAs and 1500+ SAT. I have a friend here in Nigeria that was rejected from all these schools with 1570/1600 in SAT and another with 1540, both had 8A1s in WAEC and 1600/1600 in SAT 2. Please do your research and find schools. There are over 50-100 colleges that offer full financial aid to international students. 2. MIT? Harvard? Princeton? Without test scores? Please try as much as possible to take the SAT or ACT so you can stand even a half chance at these schools. 3. I'd advise you use the Common Application, I found it much easier and straightforward than Coalition. 4. You don't need to take TOEFL, just the SAT or act will be okay. Thanks! All ivies made test optional because of the pandemic As for MIT I've communicated with d admission committee nd I was made understood I won't be penalized if I didn't submit my test scores because of the pandemic. But I think I'm more comfortable with the coailation app Thanks! ND I won't need my wassce result tho |

labylaby: Hi,
Please, do not post your essay here. Send me a private message. I'll review and give my honest thoughts. You have access to your LORs? Yeah, I would be happy to help review them privately.
People steal people's essays. You don't want to get rejected because someone plagiarised your work. Don't post your essays publicly until you've been admitted. Ok thanks I've deleted it immediately!! |

labylaby: Hi!
I'm quite knowledgeable about the undergrad process. Those colleges are high reaches for everyone--including students with all As. You can't apply to only those schools.
Are your Bs B2s or B3s?
I know a lot of people who got into these schools for undergrad and I must say their WASSCE was way higher. This isn't to say you can't do it, but you need to add other schools. Add LACs with international funding like Amherst, Williams, Lafayette, etc.
Also check out Minerva at KGI.
You should totally take the SAT &/ Subject SATs. My friend with a 1510 was rejected at a lot of top colleges, but got into Amherst and Darmouth. And she had a 4.0, 5 A1s and had Olympiad experiences. Another with a 1460 got into Stanford with a phenomenal essay and international experience. All my friends basically had *something* that set them apart.
Don't stalk college confidential for the sake of your mental health.
Basically, you need something that shines through your app. How are your ECs? Your essays need to be awesome. I promise you a lot of essays are really horrible.
Honestly, your SAT needs to be really high to make up for the WASSCE.
I wish you the best of luck, but that college list of yours is not it. Besides, I think at first all of us are blinded with the promise of prestige. Why do you even want to apply to those ones? Have you checked out your future departments in each one. Ivy or not, not all departments are fantastic.
Goodluck! Thanks! U need to see my essays and lor's Maybe u could review it B4 d Admissions committee does! Lol But I love the fact that u've got experience Should I post my lor's And essays Pls And concerning the WASSCE result I don't think I'll need to use or would I need to?? |
