I personally think everywhere in Australia has its unique beauty. @wellendowed I laughed so hard today when someone asked about snakes in Oz and you responded on a different thread which I read earlier today

I have come come again to say thank you. To the glory of God, I just got my admission for Masters of Social Works (Qualifying) from the University of Sydney this morning as a domestic student. If I didn't find this thread, I probably won't be here saying this today. First semester commences in March 2018. I am grateful to God and I am thankful to Bellong and everyone here doing a great job to help other people. Thank you and God bless!

You will get care jobs in Perth just do a Cert course on it first...it would increase your chances.

Are you coming as a PR or

Thank you very much for your contribution. Yes we are coming as PR by the grace of God

@Phlunter01,
In my opinion, Perth is about the best place to live in Australia. Western Australia government pays the highest in the country

Caveat: I don't live in Perth, my advice may be biased. And I think wellendowed is in the best position to tell you about Perth's job market, everyone one of us will only talk about where we live.

However, you can do a micro-comparison by checking seek.com.au to compare by states.
thank you for your input bro

@wellendowed @bellong @tyosho @funkyjo @jamson and all my other ppl it's time to come and give us jist

Soooo I am suddenly getting attracted to Perth for only God knows what reason meanwhile I was bent on going to Melbourne before oh. So I am here thinking is it going to be easy to get those sharp sharp jobs like forklift and care jobs initially before one settles down to a white collar job in Perth.
I am believing God that I will do my Master in Social work and am already applying self. My hubby is an HR professional and will like to continue in that line. We have two children 4 yrs old and 10months old.

Please I am interested in what you all think based on your experiences

In other news, i got Immi assessment commence notification yesterday oh (visa lodged 22/09/2017)

I thought that was only meant for people claiming work experience so that the will start their background checks, me I am not claiming any work points.

I just pray that it wont be long any more before the golden mail lands in Jesus name

Abi anybody knows why else they will send the commence mail instead of direct grant once one has front loaded all documents?

lol....this is a very hilarious piece.

tyosho:
On culture shocks-
Calling everyone by name did not come so much as a surprise because i worked in an industry that encouraged that in Nigeria.
What however shocked me is how people here feel so comfortable with a habit like smoking.Almost everyone in my office smokes and they do not seem to think anything is bad with it.People call their ogas to go with them outside for smokes.Man o,woman o,team leader o,manager o,new recruit o,everybody go gather smoke the smoke grin.

Unlike back home where smoking is seen as a vice for miscreants and irresponsible people,here the most intelligent and brightest people smoke and its not a sign of bad character or a character flaw.Makes me wonder whether we have priorities misplaced at home.

Another thing here is its normal for colleagues to invite you out for drinks(you pay for yourself of course).Fridays,weekends,start of training,end of training,promotion,etc etc, na drinks bar e dey end.

My friend who i met here told me its not a bad idea to go along with them once in a while and i think so too.I went once and it was fun!!!.I do not smoke or drink but i had plenty fun all the same.

Another thing too is they like to talk a loooooot.MY gawd!!!!!
How are you is met with a lenghty response of how last night went,what happened on the train,what happened outside the office so so so.
How was your weekend nko?Looong story too grin.

At first it was strange for me because when they say "ty how are you",im like "fine" and they have this look of "is that all?",some will even be like "just fine?"" why just fine ?" and in my mind im like "what else again ooo?".

But now me too don dey cram stories give them make i no carry last.

We have team huddles everyday and on random days my team lead is like everyone must give an interesting fact about themselves or just tell us something interesting that has happened to you today and you must respond o.The mata dey just tire me sometimes.

My elder kid too has caught the talking bug.This is someone that could barely sting 2 sentences before we left Lagos 7months ago but now,he gets disciplined (sent to bed) for talking too much.When he wakes up,i ask "do you still want to talk or you go back to bed grin?".

The boy will keep quite o.
For 15MINS and start again.
Lots of interesting experiences.Will share more later

Hello Fam,

So, while trying to do some research on the different states in Aussie and the best places to settle down and all (trying to while away time and not get anxious while waiting on GOD to manifest our direct grants via DIBP), I saw an article with the extract below;

JOBSEEKERS chasing the big bucks should head to regional Western Australia or our nation’s capital.
The Kalgoorlie, Goldfields and Esperance region recorded the highest average salary advertised in SEEK job ads last financial year, at $99,236.
It topped the list of major cities and regions in SEEK’s City Spotlight research, followed by Port Hedland, Karratha and Pilbara ($98,027) and Canberra ($85,819).
Sydney ($84,525) and Melbourne ($81,842) rounded out the top five paying locations.
While job ads in capital cities generally threw around the most cash, some regional counterparts gave them a run for their money.

Oya una wey sabi lets gist about it, what's your take.

P.S: In this sojourn of mine I have found family and friends that are willing to help us settle in the following areas;

Melbourne (West & South East)
Sydney
Brisbane
Perth

So how una see am oh *in wazobia FM tone*

It will be nice if this thread is restricted to info about life in australia.Not questions on how to secure visa or gain admission.

My family and I made use of IOM to secure our travel tickets.We went with emirates and had a stopover in Dubai.Nothing special about the travel experience.We were entitled to 40kg per adult,40kg for a child and 23kg for infant.We also paid for 2 extra bags of 32kg each but i hear prices have gone up so cargoing is cheaper.You can cargo through certain airlines like saa,emirates and etihad.
All in all we had like 12 luggages.
I went with ALL kinds of food stuffs except beans(becos of weavils).With my food items,i put them individually in transparent bags and labelled them.Fish,egusi,dry pepper,garri,amala etc.

When you're in a routine office meeting and something keeps nudging you to check your email. No alert - nothing. Just a deep prompt in the heart "Check your email". I followed the prompt, I saw 7 emails and 3 with the subjects "IMMI Grant Notification". I couldn't help but scream Oh God!!!!! right there in the meeting. No one knew what I saw and I had to step out to catch my breath. After ONLY 35 days, I received the testimony of a DIRECT GRANT for me, my wife and son. I've made lots of faith-based choices already selling all we own, already enrolled for a November - January UX Design course in Sydney, already making actual friends in the new country. It's insane when you just believe that this dream will come true. I would never have accomplished it without the support of every voice on this forum.

Once again, I have been in holy shock with thanks
