obailala: Nigerians have to be the most irritatingly gullible humans on the planet... After several decades of our 'peculiar' leadership in this nation, I cannot understand why any sane Nigerian would still jubilate when the government uses words like 'proposed'
All the laudable projects the president has done started with proposals or the with the word "proposed". Tell me, which thing do you do in this world without proposing it first? Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, Jonathan will deliver and commission the project in 2016.

Politics › Fashola , Oshiomhole , Wamakko Absent At Apc Govs’ Meeting . by PhockPhockMan(op): 8:08pm On Sep 02, 2014
Owerri, the Imo State Capital, on Monday, stood still for the governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who stormed the city for their 3rd progressive governance lecture series.

However, Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, and his Edo and Sokoto states counterparts, Adams Oshiomhole and Wamakko, were conspicuously absent for inexplicable reasons.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who chaired the forum, challenged the Federal Government to wake up from its slumber bed and tackle the current health and security challenges facing the citizenry.

He regretted that the Ebola virus has become the worst monster confronting the African continent and which requires adequate investment in the health sector to spare the people from possible extermination.

The former vice president, who eulogised the theme of the lecture: ‘Dealing with the challenges of building a physically healthy nation through preventive, protective and innovative Medicare’, decried the upsurge of maternal and infant mortality in the country.

He gave an assurance that an APC controlled Federal Government in 2015 would take necessary steps to transform the country for a better tomorrow.

National Chairman of the APC, John Odigie Oyegum, at the occasion, advised Nigerians to shun politicians propagating and promoting campaign of calumny and character assassination against the APC to achieve their parochial and sectional ambitions.

This is even as he dismissed mischief-makers who link the APC with the discredited Boko Haram sect.

Oyegum, a former governor of Edo State, said the APC is neither a Yoruba, a Hausa nor Igbo party but a national vehicle composed of progressive minds, who have the capacity to transform the country for posterity.

“I want to assure you all that the APC is on the part of greatness and the 15 years of PDP misrule in the country will come to an end by February 2015 and this is a challenged to all of us”.

The APC national chairman assured that the party would tackle the nagging problem of corruption and insurgency if voted into power and deliver the citizenry from the administrative ineptitude of the PDP at the centre.

Politics › JUBILATION IN EBONYI , As Court Recognises Speaker, Nwazunku. by PhockPhockMan(op): 7:26pm On Sep 02, 2014
There was jubilation in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital following a High Court ruling that the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Chukwuma Nwazunku remains the speaker pending the determination of the substantive suit before the court.

This followed dismissal of the application brought by Mrs. Helen Nwobashi and 17 members of Ebonyi State House of Assembly seeking an interlocutory injunction to restrain Mr. Chukwuma Nwazunku from parading himself as the speaker of the House.

In her ruling, the vacation judge, Justice Chinyere Ken-Eze maintained that the status quo before the purported impeachment of the first defendant on July 21, 2014 be maintained pending the determination of the substantive suit.

The application by Mrs Helen Nwobashi was the second suit in the legal battle to determine the legitimate Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly following the controversy that trailed the July 21 impeachment in the House.

Justice Eze noted that the injunction was granted to prevent damage and argued that injury that could be suffered by the applicant for the refusal to grant application could be compensated in monetary terms.

The judge, however faulted the action of the first defendant for continuing its activities by ignoring the notice of application pending in court.

In an interview, the counsel to the plaintiffs, Mr. Philip Udeora, who stood in for Chief Tagbo Ike said he would appeal the matter if his client was not satisfied with the ruling.

The counsel to the first defendant, Chief Mudi Irenede commended the judge for her ruling which he said was in the ambit of the law.

The matter was adjourned till September 24 for hearing of the substantive suit. ENDS

mankand: Bad Idea, when Lagos still import Pine Apple from Republic of Benin, he should rather focus on feeding Nigeria first before exporting.
You're right, but I believe it's PPP, the private partners may prefer the pineapples be exported to a more lucrative market in the world.

To any objective person looking at the trends currently, it is obvious GEJ and his backers are very jittery and scared of their own shadow. Hence the effort to silence opposition voices everywhere with overwhelming display of force which is never deployed when and where needed. I suggest you take your own advice and STFU.

Politics › GROUP LAUNCHES #bringbackgoodluck2015 Campaign In Abuja. by PhockPhockMan(op): 11:37am On Sep 02, 2014
Goodluck Initiative for Transformation (GIFT) 2015 has launched its global campaign to ensure President Goodluck Jonathan declares for re-election in 2015, with the hash tag #BringBackGoodluck2015.

At the launch in Abuja yesterday, during its sit-out solidarity programme for President Jonathan at the Unity Square, the group reiterated its commitment towards ensuring the president declared for re-election.

The group pledged that the sit-out which is scheduled to run daily until the president declares to contest the 2015 presidential election, would be a success because “we have the capacity, man power and followership to ensure that the president is re-elected into office.”

Speaking to journalists at the sit-out which had huge crowd, notable speakers and dignitaries from Abuja and its environs in attendance, the National Coordinator of GIFT, Chinedu Okpalanma, said the organisation was now in the second phase of its programmes after the success of its country-wide rallies which ended last month.

“Today, we have officially commenced our daily sit-out campaign for President Jonathan, which will run every day from 3p.m. to 6p.m. to compel the president to declare.

“We have also launched our media campaign tagged: ‘#BringBackGoodluck2015’, which is a social consciousness drive to enable Nigerians identify with our call for President Jonathan to declare for 2015,” Okpalanma stated.

He said arrangements had been finalised to commence the same
sit-out gathering in all the states and local government areas in the country simultaneously from Wednesday to be anchored by their coordinators in all the states, local government areas and wards.

Agriculture › Enugu Set To Export Pineapples To Europe by PhockPhockMan(op): 11:15am On Sep 02, 2014
The Enugu State Government would commence the commercial shipment of pineapple to Europe this year, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chuks Ugwoke, said on Monday.

Ugwoke, who said this while addressing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting, explained that the commodity would be harvested from the 150-hectare Enugu-San Carlos Pineapple Farm.

The meeting was chaired by Governor Sullivan Chime at the Government House, Enugu.

In addition to the production of pineapple, the commissioner said the council also approved the introduction of banana and livestock, particularly cattle, in the farm, which is jointly owned by the state government and San Carlos, a United States-based farming conglomerate.

The council also approved N880.8m as the state’s equity counterpart contribution for new investments in the farm.

Ugwoke said the council approved another N1.1bn for the completion of construction work on two major inter-local government rural roads in parts of the state.

He added that about N48.8m was approved for the implementation of the health commodity supply component of the 2013 Millennium Development Goals Local Government Track for six local government areas of Awgu, Enugu East, Igbo-Eze South, Nkanu West, Nsukka and Udi.

It is expected that hospital equipment, drugs and other materials needed in health care facilities in the state will be provided with the sum.

Ugwoke similarly said the council directed that a draft bill for a law to upgrade the State College of Agriculture and Agro-Entrepreneurship in Iwollo Oghe to the Enugu State Polytechnic should be forwarded to the state House of Assembly for consideration and possible passage.

According to the commissioner, the bill, if passed into law, and the school, will help to reduce the hardship being faced by many candidates seeking admission into higher institutions in the state and also facilitate the steady and direct in-flow of material and financial resources to the institution from outside the state.
