PDP, teaching APC political science since time immemorial. ![]() |
He went on: “Two, we have also been able to have on record, that whoever is going to emerge as governor will not contest in 2015 and it has also been unanimously agreed that because Adamawa Central hasnot been able to produce governor of the state before, it is on record that the Presidency and the party have accepted that the aspiration for the PDP nomination for 2015 will be strictly for contestants from Adamawa Central. It is not negotiable.”“So most of us from Adamawa Central have agreed to this position and about eight of us have withdrawn from the race. We are going to remain members of the party and we are going to contest in 2015 because it will give us the opportunity to make that transformation that we want to change Adamawa into.” He stated. Those who attended the meeting included the PDP National Vice Chairman, Uche Secondus, Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Rufai Alkali,Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe and Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/adamawa-guber-race-why-ribadu-seven-others-stepped-down/ |
Mallam Nuhu Ribadu’s ambition to succeed the impeached Admiral Murtala Nyako as Adamawa State governor ended in an anti-climax yesterday. The pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (INEC) and seven other aspirants from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stepped down after a marathon meeting with Senate President David Mark and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party in Abuja. Others out of the race are:Auwal Tukur; Aliyu Idi Hong, Andrawus Sawa; James Barka; Gen. Aliyu Kama; Markus Gundiri and Abubakar Girei. Their exit now leaves the field open for Acting Governor Umaru Fintiri, former Presidential adviser Ahmed Gulak,Dr.Ahmed Modibbo,Dr.Umar Ardo,Brigadier General Buba Marwa and Jerry Kudmisi, all of whom will be taking part in today’s primaries. The party’s hierarchy had to intervene in the face of a bitter struggle for the ticket by the aspirants. The party leaders convinced eight of the aspirants to allow Fintiri who,as Speaker, presided at Nyako’s impeachment,to complete the former governor’s tenure. Gulak, Marwa, Modibbo, Ardo, and Kumdisi however refused to forgo their aspirations.. It was agreed at the closed-door meeting that they will not be allowed to contest for the position in 2015. The meeting also agreed that only those who stepped down yesterday could contest for the party’s governorship election ticket in 2015. Adamawa Central which is yet to produce will be favoured. All losers in today’s primaries are required to support the party’s flag bearer in the October 11 election. Chairman of PDP in Adamawa State,Chief Joel Madaki told reporters at the end of the meeting that none of the aspirants was “forced to step down.” “ Those who stepped down did so voluntarily in order to wait to contest for the position in 2015.” Alhaji Gulak described the outcome of the meeting as fantastic. “We met as family members of PDP.Even before coming here all the aspirants in Adamawa had unanimously resolved that after the primaries, in a free, fair primaries, anybody that emerges will get our support.” “At this meeting, the number of the aspirants has been drastically reduced to six, which is manageable. I am contesting, Gen. Marwa is contesting, Ahmed Modibbo is contesting, Dr. Umar Ardo is contesting, Hon. Jerry Kumdisi is contesting, and Acting Governor Fintiri is contesting.” “And we have resolved to go into the primaries without rancour, without acrimony and to come out of it as peaceful co-existing members.” “And at the end of it all, anybody that emerges, we will all queue behind him. And if I emerge as the candidate, they will all queue behind me. It is going to be a family affair and there will be no losers.” On his chances of getting the ticket as Ribadu and others are now out of the race, he said: “Nuhu Ribadu or not, you know, I prepared for this election. Even, if 14 of us are going into this election, I am confident of my ability, of my capability, of my mobilization, of my sensitization ,that the delegates will select me.” Aliyu Idi Hong, one of those that withdrew said: “Peace-building, negotiation, give-and-take, everything went well. We have been given a caveat and one thing we have succeeded in extracting from this meeting is that whoever is going to contest and if he happens to win as a governor, he will not have the right to contest the 2015 election.” “Some of us think that our aspiration, our ambition, our vision for Adamawa is a long term and more articulate vision and not a stop-gap six months aspiration.” “For that reason, we saw it is wiser that if you are going to do something to change the fortune of Adamawa, you need a longer period of time. So, we decided that it is not wise for you to go into this aspiration for six months.” CONTINUES |
jesuslovesme123: Well, follow this line of argument if it makes you feel good.Shaaarraaaaap, is he lying? |
menix: Dis American pple don madt nii..Tell them. |
Why must it be Nigeria to help others, while they mock us each time we get problem, especially, our darker neighbours. |
hjr2014: the US is a blessing to this world!Meaning what? Must you comment? |
Seun: nationwide24, I am now following you. If you come across a topic that is suitable for the home page, share it and I will be notified. Is that all you can say? I advise you to set up a mechanism to know by yourself. Because, handing over the responsibility of notifying you of front page material to anyone will not be BEST FOR BUSINESS, especially in politics section where almost everybody, including the MODS are biased, otherwise, why these topics are condemned to rot in Health and politics sections? https://www.nairaland.com/1888516/ive-given-igbo-positions-theyve https://www.nairaland.com/1888526/us-urges-nigeria-liberia-others |
donphilopus: @Nigerianvenom, sometimes, it's better to rest when you don't have any meaningful thread to create. Is it mandatory for you to create threads everyday?! Even if y'all are e-mourners, there are still some sensible dudes amongst you who do not create unnecessary threads. Or, are those ones no longer at your level?! Sorry for you though. You seemed to be the fool here. Why take panadol for another man headache? |
Op, you mumu o o. Which of the three attire is of Ijaw? All I see is HAUSA, IGBO and YORUBA attires. |
@barcanista, the other day, you complained how pdp/Gej favoured thread are always favoured to front page with ease while that of APC is left to rot in politics section. In your sincere judgement, do this thread deserve front page? If yes, did you see it there? |
Thank God that politicians decided not to play politics with this ebola disease , otherwise it would have been an unimaginable disaster. |
.......... Just as APC is desperate to lose in 2015. . |
priscaoge: America is in possession of d Almighty Zmapp and yet they can't distribute it to those countries in need of it. Y call Nigeria? Is Nigeria suppose to die 4 them? If they cannot send those drugs to Nigeria, then they should send it to those countries naaa. That Liberian man is the architect of Nigeria's problem on EVD,We are still struggling with many cases @hand.So, A.b.oki has been censored to Northerner? Hmmmmm. |
thwarrior72: Hey dude, despite the fact that I support GEJ, I will not hesitate to point out the fact that infrastructurally GEJ has not done much to the SE nor SS. We should not get hysterical over ministerial appointment which merely benefits some few selected individual, while the mases who need need government wallow in squalor.I'm happy to hear from you that he has not done much, meaning he has done something and still doing it. I challenged certain gbawe to list the celebrated Obasanjo projects in south east in eight years, instead of answering me, he changed moniker. What I'm trying to say is that, we never had it so good, notwithstanding it's littleness. |
Demdem: Wait oooo, when ibos talk about seaport, is it not that port close to the bridge at Onitsha?Empty post. |
lakpalakpa: SMH, wasted epistle!!!Thunder fire you. |
Lordlexyy: barcanista, you are my true Nigerian brother. You mean Mr. President is from your tribe and you never stop being objective about his government for once? If there is anyone worth emulating, bros na you. I may have disagreed with you on some issues, but this thing you just said makes you my nairaland personality of all time. Bros, we need more of you. With folks like you, believe you me, there is hope for this country. Remain bless. You're being misled by barcanista's half truth. Jonathan is of Ijaw tribe while barcanista claim to come Okrika, in Rivers State. If you put two of them together, you will see them conversing with English. My tribesman my foot. |
nku5: Don't worry about the igbo man. So far na this Nigeria we never expected anything from anybody. Despite the decades of marginalisation the igbo man has thrived. If the "marginalised" people (whoever they might be) takes over there is nothing they can do that will raise the average igbo man's eyebrow unless they destroy our highways etcTell them. |
barcanista: What has the government done for the SE? why should I be Jealous when the President himself is from My tribe?HYPOCRITE, the President is from your tribe abi? It's the same you who insisted that Ikweres are not Igbos despite the overwhelming similarities, now you're claiming Ijaw. What is the link between Ijaw and Okrika? Do they speak the same language? |
thwarrior72: But GEJ should stop petting himself on the back, he hasn't done much to the igbos & besides, he's not doing us any favours, we are a legal part of this entity called NigeriaCould you have said this trash during Obasanjo time? It was Obasanjo's hatred to Ndigbo that led to the emergence of Massob. |
ideycraze: GEJ- Dividing Nigerian along ethnic lineHow? |
99100: The occasion was World Igbo day. And as such what do you expect him to say ? He must give the Igbos reasons to revote him again. It's the same people that had been claiming that the president has not done enough to deserve Igbos vote. Now that he has defended himself, they are crying. So unfortunate. |
priscaoge: America have a Almighty Zmapp and yet they can't distribute it to those countries in need of it. Y call Nigeria? Is Nigeria suppose to die 4 them? That Liberian man is the architect of Nigeria's problem on EVD,We are still struggling with many cases @hand.You're right, my lady. |
MOD, please front page. . |
wazoboy: very funny, they denied us zmapp but gave us 5000naira infrared thermometersIt's unfortunate that American government decided to play politics with the virus. They denied us zmapp but gave us infrared to discover more and more victims. Too bad. |
hakanai: I think we shouldn't. We should resolve our own cases and close our borders. Because as it it now we will feel the impact if we begin to involve ourselves in another nations palaver. After Ebola we have BH. So one thing at a time. I also think we have done enough for Liberia. Bleed for her and spent for her! E don do abeg! Let other help too. They should suffer it, Nigeria wasted human and material resources in their civil war, till today, they're still thinking America instead of Nigeria. |
felifeli: What do we have here ? A NEPOTIST for president ?You need deliverance. |
Gbawe: I am not at all interested in the topic because it is entirely up to Igbos if they want to ignore reality and be taken in by the deception of a snake oil salesman only ultimately interested in his own selfish ambition.STORY THAT TOUCHES THE HEART. List the projects Obasanjo started or completed in Igboland in 8 years, I will list the ones Jonathan has done in 4 years. |
kropelgrada: Yes....all in the name of playing politicsThe same playing of politics that made Obasanjo to marginalise Ndigbo for eight good years. |
The United States government has pleaded with Nigeria to extend its assistance to three other countries in the West African sub-region that have been grappling with the Ebola Virus Disease. The American Under Secretary of State on African Affairs, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, who stated this in an interview with journalists on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, said there was the need for Nigeria to assist Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia in the fight against the disease. She was, however, evasive on why the President Barack Obama’s administration refused to assist Nigeria with Zmapp drugs. She said the US was proud of the way Chukwu, the Federal Health Ministry members of staff and the Federal Government had effectively been working hard to deal with the EVD outbreak in Nigeria. Thomas-Greenfield said, “They are taking all the right steps to control this. And they are having great success here. I appealed to the minister to assist neighbouring Liberia, Sierra-Leone (and Guinea) as they also grapple with this terrible outbreak.” She however said it was not true that the US government had failed to assist Nigeria with Zmapp drugs. “That is not correct; I think the Centre for Disease Control has proactively supported all the countries in the West African region in dealing with the situation. It is not about Zmapp.” In his response, Chukwu said, “Nigeria has always been her brothers and sisters’ keeper. Nigeria helped and founded ECOWAS. You remember it was during Gen. Yakubu Gowon, when he was Head of States, that ECOWAS was established. Nigeria will continue to play that leading role in ECOWAS. We are going to assist our sister nations. Let me also reaffirm that the United States of America has fully been part of this battle; how to contain the Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria. US CDC has done wonderfully well. “Even if you go remotely, part of the infrastructure we have in Nigeria was because US CDC worked with Nigeria to get them established. So, we are grateful to the government of United States; and the support continues to come in. Even some of the hand-held infrared thermometers we are using were provided by the United States government.” http://www.punchng.com/news/us-urges-nigeria-to-help-liberia-others-tackle-ebola/ |
President Goodluck Jonathan has applauded the attention his administration is giving the Igbo, whom he said, are well represented in his government and are being appointed to positions which no previous administrations ever gave them. The President also said the Igbo had also benefited from many projects completed by his government in the South-East. He said these during this year’s World Igbo Congress Day in Huston, United States of America. The event had held on Saturday, but a copy of the President’s speech at the ceremony was only made available to journalists by the presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, on Thursday. President Jonathan, who said his administration’s appointments were based on competence, equity and fairness, noted that he would leave it to “historians” to determine whose administration had done more for the Igbo in terms of federal appointments. The President said, “Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, in pursuit of productivity and excellence, we have appointed competent and capable men and women to positions of high authority and strategic responsibility in all fields of national endeavour. “In our dogged determination to develop our country, the Igbo are well represented and in some of these appointments, the Igbo are having them for the first time. “Some have said that this government has done more in appointments than any other in our history for the Igbo, but that is a matter for the pundits and historians. Let me state that appointments by this administration, across the country, will continue to be based on equity, fairness and competence. “Even when some utilise politics to undermine our commitment to fairness and justice, we will deploy the principle of Federal Character to progressively correct it. No part of Nigeria under my leadership will be shortchanged.” He added that in terms of projects and policies, the Igbo had benefited from his administration’s commitment. Accordingly, the President said his administration had completed many federal roads, which were left in bad state by previous administrations. He said, “Similarly in projects and policies, we have continued to do our best. Throughout the South-East, we inherited federal roads in very poor conditions. “In spite of the highly competitive demand and constraints on funding, we have taken on most of the major roads, realising the impact that their improvement will have on business and life in our country. “The Owerri-Onitsha road, which was under construction at the outset of my administration, has been virtually completed. Three other very important roads, the Enugu-Onitsha expressway, the Enugu-Port Harcourt road and the Nguzu-Edda-Nkporo-Ohafia road which cuts across Ebonyi and Abia States, are steadily progressing. Our hope is that improved budget and Sure-P funding will see quicker action in the months ahead. “The Ohaozara-Ishiagu road and Enugu-Abakaliki road are some of those that have progressed to good standard. Further attention will be focused on the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road, which is already being addressed remedially by the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency. http://www.punchng.com/news/ive-given-igbo-positions-theyve-never-had-jonathan/ |
