whatlyf: Not like that. A united PDP will shake APC but won't sweep APC for now due to the perception of the PDP. PDP shot itself in the foot when it seized Lagos Funds and Tinubu took advantage of it. Beside, PDP has no federal project in Lagos to campaign with. Plus APC has one of the Best Political Strategist in Nigeria history as a Leader. It will be hard to unseat him in his own turf. The way out for PDP is to try and win some LGA's, perform and win people's heart. the FG non-performance is not helping matters for PDP in Lagos
You said no federal project in Lagos in the last 14 years ?

whatlyf: Bros I laugh at the OP and the Journalist that wrote the article. Ambode is very sellable and will DEFEAT any PDP candidate.. In fact PDP will work against themselves as usual. I trust the Never ending Koro Vs Bode George feud, with the dissatisfied Seye Ogunlewe as usual instructing his men to vote for APC , remember his brother is an APC Chieftain and served as HOS under Tinubu's Administration. But for PDP ticket, I see Ade Dosunmu clinching it in a free and fair primaries with Koro taking second.
You can laugh all I care, but what you must know is that since 1999, the only party preventing PDP from getting to lagos state govt house is PDP. Just let them unite for once, APC will be history in Lagos.

Similarly, an online petition addressed to President Goodluck Jonathan, pleaded with him to ensure that Agbaje was not imposed on the party. Agbaje, who is rumoured to have the backing of the Presidency, has promised that the primaries would be transparent and he would remain a member of the party even if he loses.

Segun Ogundimu

A former Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Segun Ogundimu, the medical doctor turned politician, who was also former chairman of Lagos State Water Corporation and Petroleum Products Distribution and Monitoring Committee, has also shown interest in the governorship seat.

“A new Lagos is our dream. For the past 16 years, you have been suffering. If you laugh, you’ll pay tax, if you cough, you’ll pay tax. LASU is over N350,000. We don’t want them anymore. We will chase them out with their brooms,” he said.

Adegbola Dominic

The 65-year-old contested on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in 2011 but lost by a wide margin. He has made it clear that he would ban the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Kick Against Indiscipline taskforce if voted into office.

“This suffering is just too much. By God’s grace from May 29 next year, Black Maria will not be picking up traders but officials of KAI. It will not pick up Lagosians anymore but it will pick up LASTMA officials. The Okada riders that were chased away, what did they do? What crime did they commit? You bought helmets for them during elections and then later you started seizing and crushing their bikes. There is God o. From May 29, anybody that wants to ride a bike or a car or a bus would do so,” he said.

Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse

Pearse is a senior lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Lagos, and was the National Chairman of BamangaTukur Support Groups. He has been granting interviews on many national newspapers and has often maintained that Lagos is underdeveloped and needs to align with the Federal Government. He has, however, been inactive on social media since November 2010.

Akintoye Branco-Rhodes

Branco-Rhodes is a former National Treasurer of the Nigeria Advance Party led by Dr.Tunji Braithwaite. He is also a pastor at Christ Chapel International Churches where he was one of the leaders of the Lekki chapter of Christian Men’s Network Nigeria. Branco-Rhodes was also the NAP governorship candidate in 2003, the election in which Bola Tinubu won a second term. He was at the Lagos PDP secretariat two weeks ago to formally join the governorship race.

As the PDP is set to hold its primaries, a lot of intrigues will still be involved but the PDP chairman in the state, Tunji Shelle, has made it clear that there would be no imposition in the party. While speaking with our correspondent during an interview, Shelle said the PDP remained united and vowed that 2015 would mark the end of the APC government.

Politics › Re: 2015: Lagos PDP Seeks To Break 16-year Jinx. by PhockPhockMan(op): 2:21pm On Aug 26, 2014
Babatunde Gbadamosi

Although he garnered only three votes during the 2011 PDP primaries in Lagos, Gbadamosi has strived to remain relevant politically. Popularly known as BOG (Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi), the Ikorodu-born politician has been known to criticise Fashola for being too elitist and only performing on the pages of newspapers. A real estate businessman, Gbadamosi was based in the United Kingdom for many years before returning to Nigeria.

With the hashtag, #LagosReloaded, Gbadamosi, has been having conversations on Twitter with his followers – about a thousand of them – in a bid to outwit other aspirants.

Gbadamosi who describes himself as a loyalist of the Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, in a recent chat with his fans boasted that when elected, he would redirect resources from “vanity projects” into productive endeavours.

Musiliu Obanikoro

Obanikoro is perceived to be the strongest candidate in terms of grassroots support and finance. He is also politically experienced having served as a commissioner, senator, a High Commissioner to Ghana and now a Minister of State for Defence. He also ran for governor in 2007 and came second to Fashola. He played a major role in the recently concluded election in Ekiti as he followed Fayose to some major rallies. He was also in Osun where he garnered support for Senator Iyiola Omisore. Obanikoro, who is related to the Bakare family of Ita-Ado in Lagos Island, the Obanikoro (Ajayi-Bembe) family of Lagos and the Eletu-Odibo (Oshobile) family of Isale-Eko, Lagos, has his strongest political base at the Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Obalende, Ibeju-Lekki and Eti Osa areas. Although he has not formally declared to run for governor, the minister is believed to be eyeing the governorship seat. When our correspondent asked him if he would run for governor, he simply said, “A clever person does not make himself a rich man neither a wise man make himself king. It is only God that makes kings so I will leave what tomorrow holds in store for me to God.”

Adedeji Doherty

Doherty’s posters are one of the most visible across Lagos. He was the National Vice-Chairman, PDP, South West and will most likely use the party structure to his favour. The former commissioner for Commerce in the state contested the party primary in 2003 and 2007 but lost. He promised to unveil a 10-point agenda if voted into office, adding that his main focus would be the health sector and public infrastructure.

Jimi Agbaje

Conspicuously absent at the rally, Agbaje remains the most controversial of all the PDP aspirants. A good orator, the pharmacist ran for governor in 2007 under the umbrella of the Democratic Peoples Alliance. He, however, came third as the party had no solid structure in Lagos.

Although his membership of the PDP remained very controversial, in July, he visited the PDP secretariat in Lagos where he announced that he had been registered at a PDP ward for over two years. The PDP constitution stipulates that, to be qualified to run for elective office, the affected person must be a registered member of the party for two years.

Our correspondent, who visited the home of a PDP leader and former Minister for Works, Chief Adeseye Ogunlewe, learnt that Ogunlewe and another PDP leader, Chief Olabode George, were supporting Agbaje. A large white banner with Agbaje’s picture describing him as the Moses that would lead the PDP to the Promised Land in 2015 was conspicuously placed in front of Ogunlewe’s house. Also, Agbaje comes from the Lasuwon royal family house of Ikorodu and unlike most of the aspirants, is a Christian. Some PDP leaders believe he would be widely accepted since an Ikorodu indigene has never emerged governor of the state.

His coming to the party has, however, frayed some nerves as some who have remained in the party for years have warned the party not to impose any candidate.
Politics › 2015: Lagos PDP Seeks To Break 16-year Jinx. by PhockPhockMan(op): 2:20pm On Aug 26, 2014
Although the governorship election in Lagos State will hold on February 28, 2015, the Peoples Democratic Party is not waiting till next year as all its governorship aspirants have embarked on both subtle and direct campaigns across the state.

Even though only one candidate will emerge at the highly anticipated governorship primary election, which is set to hold in October, the aspirants have all maintained that they would win. They have been employing various tactics to garner support such as increasing their presence on social networks, distributing fliers and displaying posters.

Obviously, much of these moves have been inspired by the overwhelming victory of Ayo Fayose over Governor Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress. The PDP politicians hope to replicate the Ekiti feat in Lagos State to break the 16-year jinx, considering that by 2015, the APC would have ruled Lagos for 16 years.

Although the APC has entrenched itself in every sector of the state, the PDP in Lagos would bank on the support of President Goodluck Jonathan and the Federal Government. While the Labour Party might not be considered strong enough to stage an upset in the state, it could decimate the chances of other parties especially with personalities such as Dapo Durosinmi-Etti, a former senatorial candidate who was adjudged by many as the winner of the 2011 Lagos-Central senatorial district election. Durosinmi-Etti, who is the LP’s strongest candidate in Lagos, has already hinted that the LP would not mind joining forces with the PDP or any other party to flush out the APC next year.

For the PDP, there are many factors to be considered. Although the APC has stressed that it would zone the 2015 governorship to the Lagos East Senatorial District, it remains unclear if the PDP would do same. Fayose did not mince words when he visited Lagos last month to stage a rally at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota. Fayose, who claimed to be an expert at kicking out incumbent governors, told the aspirants that they should follow his footsteps by taking the campaign to the masses, who he attributed his victory to.

“There is no ward out of the 177 wards in Ekiti that I don’t know at least 10 people by name and their houses; that is grass roots politics. If you want to be our governor and you are operating in VGC or Banana Island, climb down from your high horses. The starch some of you apply on your agbadas is enough to make eba and feed children in my house. I’m the only Nigerian that has defeated two incumbent governors at two different times so I can say I have a penchant for defeating governors,” he added. Fayose added that the era of imposition was over and the person who would emerge as the party’s candidate must clinch the ticket in a transparent manner.

Subsequently, the aspirants revealed themselves to supporters. They include:

Ade Dosunmu

Dosunmu is no stranger to Lagos politics. He was born to the Dosunmu family of IsaleEko, Lagos Island. He was the PDP’s candidate in 2011. Although he lost to Governor Babatunde Fashola – having garnered 300,450 votes as opposed to Fashola’s 1,509,113 votes – the former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety is thirsty for revenge. During his first campaign, the graduate of Sociology from the University of Ibadan repeatedly berated Fashola for overspending and high taxation. Dosunmu, who holds a Ph.D in Public Administration from ObafemiAwolowo University says he is more than capable to run the state.During the 2011 election, most of Dosunmu’s votes came from Badagry as well as Amuwo Odofin, Ojo and Ajeromi.
