barcanista: þhe onus lies on Abians to decide on whether to reward incompetency and failure by "electing" mediocres or they want to emulate the change going on in Imo State. Former Governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, has called on leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to unite in order to defeat what it described as an oppressive All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government in the state. Ohakim in a statement issued at a meeting called ‘Burma retreat’ which took place at Okohia, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state, called on many vibrant actors in the state PDP to end all forms of infightings and hostilities within the party to achieve victory at the coming poll. Condemning caustic attacks among the state PDP governorship aspirants, the former governor lamented that there had been an avalanche of media report sponsored by PDP members in the state targeted at running down their contemporaries, stressing that such actions would ultimately run down the entire party and reducing its bright chances at the poll. According to the statement, “It is an incontrovertible fact that the PDP is now set to take over Douglas House, Owerri, in 2015. Almost every politician of substance in the state today is in the PDP. “The party in power, the APC, cannot win an election in the state given the quality of its leadership and the suffering it has inflicted on the masses. The PDP therefore can only lose the next election if dirty politics against fellow party members does not cease forthwith.” He warned that other parties had made it their political strategy to wait for the PDP members to fight themselves, knowing that the house divided against itself, its platform will be weakened. The former governor stressed that one of the signs of the PDP might as it prepares for the next election is the fact that it is the party with the highest number of governorship aspirants, signaling the abundance of high quality candidates and the confidence to win. “Each of these candidates can provide high quality governance to the muddle we have been made to live with and endure since 2011. “As at today, the party in power has no single governorship aspirant in the field. Not even the sitting governor, (although he swore to a single tenure) has mustard the confidence to throw in the hat,” the statement noted. Ohakim stressed that there had been defection in droves occurring daily, depleting the ranks of the APC and indicating the rejection of the impunity with which the state and their party are being led. “We will fail to take advantage of this scenario if we do not stop the mudslinging,” Ohakim said. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/ohakim-seeks-united-pdp-to-unseat-apc-in-imo/186918/ |

Illegality is legal when it concerned APC. So unfortunate. |
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday alleged that the state Governor, Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura, spent N1bn to lobby some prominent politicians to save him from the impeachment move by the House. The House committee Chairman on Information and Security, Mr. Baba Ibaku (PDP, Udege/Loko Constituency), said this in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Lafia, the state capital. Ibaku was reacting to an allegation by the All Progressives Congress that each of the Adamawa lawmakers collected $180,000 to impeach the governor. The lawmaker reiterated the commitment of the House to do its work in accordance with Section 188 (7) of the 1999 Constitution. “Two days ago, we were in the Akwanga Local Government Area holding a meeting and all of a sudden, we heard that the chairman of the local government went on air to announce that all the hotels in Akawanga should chase out the lawmakers and prevent them from holding any meeting in their hotels. Are we not indigenes of Nasarawa State?” he said. On the allegation by the APC that the lawmakers were given $ 180,000 from the Presidency to impeach the governor, he said that he did not know anything about the money. He denied that the lawmakers were being instigated by the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party. “I don’t know anything about members of the House collecting money to impeach the governor but I know the man (Al-Makura) has spent about N1bn to lobby top politicians in the state to stop his impeachment,” he said. Ibaku said the lawmakers would do their work at the appropriate time to ensure the removal of the governor. He also dismissed an allegation that the lawmakers had resolved to hold a mid-night session to set up a new panel that would investigate the governor. He said, “How can we sit at night? The other day, the people of the state were accusing us that we sat at the Karu Local Government Area of the state in a beer parlour and had a kangaroo sitting, where we disbanded the seven-man panel set up by the state Chief Judge, Justice Umaru Suleiman Dikko,” he said. Ibaku also denied an allegation that the lawmakers had drawn a list of commissioners and submitted it to the Deputy Governor, Mr. Damishi Luka. “It is not the responsibility of the lawmakers to draw any list for appointment. Our job is to make laws,” he said. Reacting, the Special Adviser to the governor on Public Affairs, Adulameed Kwara, said the APC governor was not ready to join issues with the House. Kwara said, “They are entitled to express their opinions the way they want it, but as far as we are concerned, as a government, we will respond to matters that have legal consequences.” http://www.punchng.com/news/al-makura-spent-n1bn-to-escape-impeachment/ |

That's why he has been finding it difficult to make a definite decision, because the moment he declares for APC, he lose his top job. He was the brain behind the massive defections to APC from PDP. A traitor indeed. |
