NgeneUkwenu, where are the Ebonyi pictures. Today no be Monday again? I dey vex o o. |
HNosegbe: Weren't you among those PDP voltrons who claimed that Buhari stage-managed the attack? My argument then is that the attack on Buhari is either coincidence or APC internal war. I'M RIGHT AFTER ALL. |
agamenon: Kwankwaso is a mole, time will vindicate me.I believe you. Femi Fani Kayode on my mind. |
Descartes: Politcs, indeed a beautiful game. It's getting ugly. |
donphilopus: Look at yourself?! You wanna justify Asari Dokubo's assassination attempt!Leave the messenger, face the message. With the zeroing of APC presidential ticket to North West, his only obstacle remains Buhari. Had it been he succeeded in killing him, he would have killed two birds with one stone, first, unopposed APC presidential ticket, second, massive sympathy votes for him. He has already been thinking on this line for long hence his frequent attack on the President. |
dustydee: This report looks suspicious. Why would APC be speaking for PDP supporters? Are you in doubt? There is nothing APC cannot do to score political goal. |
Longeria: Wait o o, is it not the same Yakubu APC has been calling for his sack for the missing Chibok...... Sorry, I mean missing 49 billion dollars? Last I checked, Kaduna PDP has never even frowned face for the sack.Their major disappointment is their inability intimidate Jonathan to sack him when they wanted to, so as to portray him as weak. APC is party without direction. |
Now I know who want to kill Buhari. |
The battle for the presidential ticket of the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, is now narrowed down to the North- West geo- political zone. Political observers believe it’ll be a direct combat between former military leader, Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) and the incumbent Kano State Governor, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso. Ahead of its presidential primaries, therefore, there are also strong indications that the 2011 presidential candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Gen. Buhari, and incumbent Kano governor, Alhaji Kwankwaso, will fight in what political pundits have described as a make or mar battle for the soul of the party. The last convention where the party’s national executive emerged showed that the North- East might have been screened out of the race for the presidential ticket. Former National Republican Congress, NRC, National Chairman, Chief Tom Ikimi, who wanted to be the national chairman of the party and, who would have worked for the emergence of former Vice- President Atiku Abubakar as the likely presidential candidate, was schemed out, thus narrowing down the race to the North- West zone. In the zone, the two prominent aspirants are definitely Buhari and Kwankwaso. Indeed, many in the party’s top hierarchy, especially those from CPC, one of the parties that merged to form APC, believe that the choice of Buhari as the presidential candidate in next year’s election is a foregone conclusion. What also reinforced his choice is the backing he received from the former members of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, one of the parties in the merger. Political watchers believe that former Lagos State governor and a chieftain of the party, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is backing Buhari. But if the pressure of a Muslim-Muslim ticket would not be too heavy on the party, Tinubu plans to be Buhari’s running mate. Interestingly, at the last convention of the party, the Buhari/ Tinubu group seemed to have had an upper hand as they succeeded in working out the emergence of the former Edo State governor, John Odigie- Oyegun, as the national chairman. Kwankwaso on his part is relying on the ‘New PDP’ members that left the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and joined the APC as well the governors of the party who are insisting in controlling the APC and have also vowed that one of their own must emerge as the presidential candidate. Kwankwaso’s firm control of Kano State which resulted in the party winning all the local government seats in the last council election is also giving him an edge. Most political watchers believe that Buhari’s antecedent as a firm Islamic believer and his age, now over 79, may be defects, especially in the South. Many of Buhari’s supporters, however, believe that he is the pillar on which the hope of the APC stands in 2015, with respect to the North-West. They therefore feel that any attempt to blackmail him on the basis of the so-called desire to transfer power to the younger politicians would spell doom for the APC. It was further gathered that the young elements in the party are rooting for Kwankwaso who is believed to have cut a niche for himself as a former federal minister and governor of Kano, one of the states with the highest votes in the country. Buhari who was born on December 17, 1942 is a retired Major General in the Nigerian Army and a former military Head of State from December 31, 1983 to August 27, 1985. He also ran unsuccessfully for the office of the President in the 2003, 2007 and 2011 elections. A Fulani Muslim, he is a native of Daura in Katsina State. Buhari first came into public attention in 1976 when he became the Minister (then Federal Commissioner) for Petroleum and Natural Resources under the then- Head of State, General Olusegun Obasanjo. Before then, he served as governor of the newly created North-Eastern State during the regime of Murtala Muhammed. Buhari, widely believed to be an honest and painstaking individual, is also perceived as an anti- corruption crusader. Kwankwaso, on his part, had been governor of Kano State from 1999 to 2003, and was reelected for a second term on April 26, 2011. This politician, with a political ideology known as the Kwankwasiyya Movement, was born in Madobi Local Government Area on October 21, 1956. He worked with Kano State Government for 17 years and rose through the cadre of the civil service to the rank of Principal Engineer. In 1992, he left the state civil service and vied for election into the Federal House of Representatives, and was elected as the Deputy Speaker. In 1994, he was elected as a delegate to the Constitutional Conference. In 1999, he was elected the Executive Governor of Kano under the platform of PDP and served a four-year term from 1999- 2003. He sought reelection and lost to Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP. Kwankwaso was appointed Minister of Defence from 2003 -2006 and was chosen as Special Adviser to the President on Dafur and Somalia in 2006 -2007. He was later appointed as the representative of the North-West geo-political zone in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NNDC) from 2009 -2010. http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/buhari-kwankwaso-in-make-or-mar-battle-for-apc-ticket/ |
The All Progressives Congress in Kaduna State on Sunday knocked President Goodluck Jonathan over what it described as the ‘unceremonious removal’ of the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Andrew Yakubu. Under the aegis of the APC Justice Forum, the party said it viewed the removal of the former GMD as the height of betrayal of the people of Kaduna State, especially, the Southern Kaduna Senatorial District that stood firmly behind the PDP since 1999. The Secretary of the APC Justice Forum, Mr. Mohammed Musa- Soba, in a statement in Kaduna on Sunday, said the party was aware of a planned rally for President Jonathan which was slated for last Saturday without the involvement of the Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Yero, noting that the removal of the ex-NNPC boss had further exposed the PDP as a party of godfatherism. The Forum said, “The unceremonious removal of Yakubu has exposed the contradictions within the PDP political family in which godfatherism and negative political backstabbing have taken the centre stage against equity, fairness and sense of political decency. “No reason was adduced for Yakubu’s removal because none could be justified in view of the fact that Yakubu has one more year for his tenure to expire either by reason of reaching the mandatory 60 years of age or putting in 35years in service. “The Kaduna APC Justice Forum therefore condemns the premature removal of the son of Kaduna State, Mr. Andrew Yakubu, which portrays the PDP as unjust and insensitive to the political solidarity and patronage it enjoys from the good people of Southern Kaduna.” http://www.punchng.com/politics/apc-faults-jonathan-over-yakubus-removal/ |

***"The President, who recalled that 10 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were killed in the violence that erupted in some states during the 2011 general elections, pledged that security agents won’t allow a similar situation in Osun State."*** Oya, Aregbesola, come with your juju make we see. |
President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday said there is no going back in the deployment of troops for this weekend’s governorship elections in Osun State. He said the essence is to checkmate or severely deal with persons who want to engage in violence or electoral malpractices. Jonathan spoke in Osogbo, Osun State capital during a campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the election, Iyiola Omisore. He was obviously referring to calls by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the deployment of soldiers for the polls. The President, who recalled that 10 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were killed in the violence that erupted in some states during the 2011 general elections, pledged that security agents won’t allow a similar situation in Osun State. “We will not allow that. We will make sure that Osun State is properly policed. “Whoever calls himself a thug or whatever and finds himself in Osun state that day will be dealt with according to the law. “It will be one man, one vote; one woman, one vote; one youth, one vote. “We asked you to queue up to register and vote and some people now say we should not deploy security so that they will come and snatch ballot boxes. You must say no to that”, Jonathan declared. He told the crowd that gathered at the Osogbo Township Stadium that PDP had more democratic credentials than any other party in the country, with other parties struggling in vain to catch up. “They can’t compare with us on transparency in selecting our candidates”, said Jonathan as he urged the Osun electorate to give him and Vice President Namadi Sambo, whose birthday coincided with the day of the rally, a special birthday gift by voting massively to elect Omisore as the next governor of the state. Jonathan described Omisore as a grassroots man, unlike those who stay on hilltops and look down on the masses, adding, “We will work together to develop this state. We allow the people to select who will represent them. “We need maximum cooperation from everybody to make Osun state work and to develop. All we ask of you is to vote Omisore and leave the rest to us.” In his remarks, Sambo recalled that he had known Omisore for over 40 years; and he remains one of the best electrical engineers in the country, with other public service credentials that make him qualified to be the next governor of Osun State. He therefore implored the people to give Osun a new lease of life by returning the state to the party that it rightly belongs to for faster progress and more development. Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Muazu, and Akwa Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio, also called on Osun voters to elect Omisore and the PDP to steer the affairs for the state for good. Also at the rally were Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha; Governor Gabriel Suswam; PDP Board of Trustees chairman, Tony Anenih; Police Affairs Minister, Jelili Adesiyan; other cabinet members including Olajumoke Akinjide, Musiliu Obanikoro; Ekiti Governor-elect, Ayo Fayose; PDP chieftains; Femi Fani-Kayode, Teslim Folarin, Bode George, Erelu Obada, Kema Chikwe, among others. However, APC in its reaction, said it was not moved by the crowd that graced the PDP rally in Oshogbo. Director of the Bureau of Communications and Strategy, Office of the Osun State Governor, Semiu Okanlawon, said the PDP rally was empty, that it left the few who paid attention to what the leaders wanted to say bewildered. According to Okanlawon, what PDP did with its “so-called” mega rally was to at best, just register its presence in the state, having discovered that their candidate has no chance in the electoral contest of August 9. Kunle Oyatomi, Osun APC Director of Publicity, Media and Strategy, described the rally as a mere jamboree, stressing that majority of the supporters that attended were not from Osun, but from other South West states. Meanwhile, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has denied claims that it conducted an opinion poll that favoured the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore. Acting Public Affairs Officer of the US Consulate General, Lagos, Rhonda Watson said that the agency did not conduct opinion poll on the forthcoming governorship election. It would be recalled that the PDP had claimed that the agency conducted a poll on Osun election, which the PDP was favoured to win. The agency refuted the claim and described it as lie adding that “No USAID poll was taken in Osun”. Quoting a one-paragraph response from USAID, Democracy and Governance Team, Abuja, the United States Agency categorically said, “None of USAID Peace and Democracy Governance Implementing Partners (P/DG IPs) support or plan to support any election related opinion polls in Osun.” The APC had contacted the USAID to provide it with a copy of the findings of the PDP alleged poll for verification, to which the agency responded that no such poll was conducted. The party in a statement issued and signed Oyatomi, described the claim as false story. The APC therefore described the PDP in Osun as a band of liars who cannot be trusted with the finances of the state. Similarly, the APC has also alleged that the PDP is conspiring with some staff of INEC official to hatch a plan to rig the August 9 gubernatorial election in Osun State. In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party alleged that some INEC IT staff has allegedly handed over the entire electoral register for the state to a Special Assistant to a top PDP national official, with a view to manipulating it to disenfranchise many voters. According to Mohammed, ‘’For those who may see this as outlandish, they should recall that an INEC official tampered with the voters register used during the last gubernatorial election in Anambra State to remove the names of many voters”. APC said the plan to tamper with the electoral register for Osun, coupled with INEC’s delay in issuing Permanent Voter Register to registered voters, especially those who are APC members in the state, highlight the desperation of the PDP to win the forthcoming governorship election at all cost. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2014/08/going-back-troops-deployment-jonathan/ |

***Sijuwade described Omisore as a humble person, recalling that he “stepped aside’’ for former Governors Bisi Akande and Olagunsoye Oyinlola when he prevailed on him.*** I love this statement. |
President Goodluck Jonathan said on Saturday in Ile-Ife that the PDP candidate for the Aug.9 Osun governorship poll, Iyiola Omisore, would emerge victorious. Jonathan spoke during a courtesy visit to Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Ooni of Ife.“Omisore’s time has come…God’s time is the best,’’ he said. The president, who described Ooni as a blessing to the present generation, thanked him for his support. He said Omisore was a “fantastic material’’ that Osun needed at this time to take the state to the “promised land’’. I urge support for the PDP gubernatorial candidate, cast your vote for him and Omisore will not let you down, Jonathan said. Earlier, Sijuwade had called for a minute silence in memory of the souls of departed heroes. The traditional ruler named such heroes as the late Obafemi Awolowo, Bola Ige, Alhaji Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano and Igwe Okagwe, the Obi of Onitsha among others. Sijuwade described Omisore as a humble person, recalling that he “stepped aside’’ for former Governors Bisi Akande and Olagunsoye Oyinlola when he prevailed on him. According to him, it is only God who has the power to appoint the president, governors, and traditional rulers. On the unity of the country, Sijuwade said: “Without unity the country’s progress will remain very slow. ’’He appealed to traditional rulers to join hands with the government to rid the country of insurgency. “With their support, Boko Haram insurgency and other activities militating against national growth will become a thing of the past. ’’He said the South-West zone and particularly Osun needed more federal presence in line with the president’s transformation agenda. Sijuwade also called on the government to continue to givecritical sectors – agriculture and aviation a boost. He solicited the support of the president for the revival of cocoa, completion Ile-Ife water dam and the expansion of Ife-Ibadan expressway. Trouble is now brewing in the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the party chairman, Dr. Hilary Ekeh, and the stateCommissioner for Public Utilities, Ifeanyi Nwachukwu, are enmeshed in power tussle over who controls the vehicles recently distributed to the party. Supporters of the two camps yesterday, at about 8pm, engaged each other in street fight around Government House, Owerri. The buses were distributed to the party by the state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, to facilitate the movement of members. But the buses have now become source of quarrel between the party executive, led by Ekeh, and members loyal to the governor, led by the commissioner. It was gathered that as one of the drivers from the commissioner’s camp was trying to drive out one of the buses from the Government House, supporters of the state party chairman prevented him from driving out.As a result of the confusion, a fisticuff ensure between the two groups, attracting the attention of passersby. While the free-for-all fight was going on, the commissioner who is also the National Coordinator of the Club was said to have been alerted. According to an eyewitness the commissioner who arrived the scene later was said to be visibly angry called in the Imo State Security Network after trying in vain to reach the Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere. Members of Imo Security Network who arrived the scene later was said to have arrested the leader of the opposing camp. The source said the commissioner had had not being in good term with the party chairman. http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/imo-apc-chairman-commissioner-fi-ght-over-partys-vehicles/ |
