Politics › PDP Resolve Crisis Over Secretary Seat. by PhockPhockMan(op): 12:36pm On Jul 02, 2014
. The crisis generated by the tussle over the slot of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary, zoned to the South West has finally been resolved. The resolution was achieved at a meeting held in Abuja by South West leadership caucus on Monday night which stretched to the early hours of Tuesday. At the meeting called by one-time Deputy National Chairman of PDP,South West, Chief Olabode George, it was agreed that in the spirit of genuine reconciliation, support should be given to Professor Wale Oladipo to continue in office as PDP National Secretary. In the light of this, Oladipo would be ratified as the current NationalSecretary of PDP in the proposed National Convention of the party since opposition against him from his zone has finally been doused. It had been a long while since members of the PDP from South West held a meeting in which participants entered with the mindset of forging a common front aimed at promoting the political interest of the zone on all fronts .The Convener, Bode George, in his opening remarks sued for peace and understanding among the PDP leaders and members in the South West, stressing on the necessity for a bond among them, anchored on the need for all to work in unison towards winning all South West states in the 2015 general election. To demonstrate its seriousness about genuine reconciliation, the leadership caucus resolved unanimously to present only the current PDP National Secretary, Professor Wale Oladipo, for the post during the coming National Convention of the party. The choice of Oladipo had hitherto split the PDP in the South West amid plans to remove him from office by his co-contestants through a judicial process on allegations that his election was illegal. Both Chief Ebenizer Babatope and Professor Tunde Adeniran, two strong contenders for the post of PDP National Secretary, boosted the spirit of reconciliation at the meeting when they withdrew their interest in the slot, thus endorsing Oladapo to continue in office. Both Babatope and Adeniran said their withdrawal of interest in the race for PDP National Secretary position was motivated by the initiative of the PDP South West leadership caucus, which they said, would promote the interest of the zone in the overall politics of the zone, if encouraged. In his remarks, Babatope who initially spoke against the manner Oladipo was brought in as the PDP National Secretary said in agreement with the move for reconciliation among members of the party in the South West, he would immediately withdraw a case he had on the issue at Court 7, Abuja.Adeniran also told the meeting that he was initially displeased with the choice of Oladipo as PDP National Secretary, advising members of the party from the zone to always embrace due process on any issue of interest considered very germane to all.The Governor-elect of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, in his remarks hailed the initiative by the meeting on reconciliation, stating that he was fully in support of the decision to endorse Oladipo as PDP National Secretary.Fayose urged the leaders to brace up for the challenges of winning the remaining states of South West starting from Osun State. He described Osun as a gateway to the South West on 2015 matters, while pledging to play a leading role in ensuring the returnof the state and other states in thezone to PDP.He said, “Now that you have empowered us, I will take my structure to Osun. We must do theneedful to win Osun come August. It is time to show the world that APC is not on ground in the South West.”Fayose told the PDP South West leaders that he was eager for the party to win Osun because he would not feel secured being the only PDP governor in the entire South West.In his remarks, former Minister, Alhaji Jubril Martins Kuye, said the South West leaders must pay particular attention on Ogun State with a view to addressing the problem of factionalisation in the party. He expressed regrets that PDP in Ogun has been operating on four parallel platforms, each, accordingto him, competing for attention, a development he said would not augur well for the party’s desire to win the state in 2015.The PDP candidate for the August 9 governorship election in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, lauded the meeting for showing interest in re-invigorating PDP in the South West.Omisore vowed to do all in his capacity to win Osun back for PDP.The PDP National Secretary who spoke last said he was humbled by the outcome of the meeting of reconciliation at the instance of the South West PDP leaders. He vowed to put up an inspiring performance on behalf of the zone as the National Secretary of PDP.

Politics › FINALLY, Umeh and Shinkafi Take APGA'S Seat At Confab. by PhockPhockMan(op):
At last the All Progressive GrandAlliance (APGA) has taken up itsvacant seat at the ongoing National Conference sitting in Abuja. The National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh and it's National Secretary, Alhaji Sanni Shinkafi made appearance at yesterday’s plenary during the presentationof the report of the Committee on Political Reforms.Speaking in an interview with THISDAY shortly after conference sitting was adjourned, Umeh said he was happy to be at the conference to represent the party's interest. He also said that the party welcomes the recommendations of the political reforms committee, particularly the granting of additional states to the people of the South-east zone."We are happy that the South-east through unanimous recommendations of the national conference committee will get additional one state. Tomorrow (today) voting on the recommendations will start andwe hope that it will be sustained through the support of delegates from other parts ofthe country. It will help in promoting unity of purpose for this country,” he said.He said that apart from the creation of additional state, APGA has been pushing for the creation of additional local governments in the South-east, which presently has the least number of local councils against the very high number inother geopolitical zones. However, he said a twist of fate had trailed the party's chance of joining in the conference through the use of judicial interventions to frustrate the legitimate leadership of the party from taking its rightful seat at the conference. He said part of the role of the conference would be to do something to check noticeable abuses in the judiciary, adding that there should be measures to ensure that the authorities ofthe courts are respected according to their hierarchy."I am very happy to be here today at the national conference because APGA have been a key advocate of a national dialogue over the years. We had reasoned that it is only through national dialogue that all the problems facing this country will be dealt with."They tried to use the judiciary to try and subvert the right of the party and because of politics tried to uphold a judgment of the Federal High Court as against the subsisting judgment of the Court of Appeal, " he said.

Btruth: I've told my igbo friends this times without number that they stand a chance with APC than PDP but they will not listen. I'm glad someone from their side is telling them the gospel truth. It is time we stop been selfish about our personal ambition and work together for common goal of taking this great nation to highest level. I'm not saying APC is a perfect party, but all I'm saying is "We need a change". After all, this happen in Britain ( from Labour party to Conservative) & USA ( from Republican to Democratic) too. Without a change in a system, it is obvious that we will remain static. Change is what give us a better idea.
You don't change for change sake, not all change is good, a change to terrorists party like APC is the kind of change Egyptians got, unfortunately they're paying heavily for it.

bootstrap: People like you are usually failures in life. You fail because you cannot see beyond ur hate and myopic nature. You fail because u cannot think strategically. You fail because you think you knw, yet very foolish.

Did i mention anything about licking a*ss? YOU DISGUST ME! Mark my words this day, except the igbo man start being strategic and plan beyond their greed and foolishness, these same "cattle rearers" will continue to rule you.

#to the sensible once.....I repeat, strategic scheming, no permanent friend, no permanent enemies. Just permanent interest, interests that need to be represented strongly in every political party. A strong igbo caucus in every political party in Nigeria. Not running away when it gets hot. Know which region to align with and when to align, and all the time staying focused on ur goal.

But then again, who am i kidding? its not just in the Igbo mans nature. After all, every man in the east must have some funny title and wear some red cap.

PS: The moment you begin to look down on anybody or any region, or underestimate them, is the moment you begin to fail.

bootstrap: first of.... let me say i respect all Igbos and what they represent. ( I am actually Igbo frm my mothers side).

But Igbos can be silly, greedy and unnecessarily myopic a times. Which explains why we might not have an Igbo president anytime in the nearest future. Igbos must learn to be more strategic. No one is going to hand them the presidency. Y'all have to fight for it. Only way to do that is to be more strategic. An igbo man was amongst the founding fathers of PDP, but today they more like strangers in that party. They foolishly formed APGA, and made it a regional party. No regional party can ever win a presidential election in this country.

Criminal as Tinubu cld be, he is a good strategist and knows that ACN cld never be a party at the centre so long as they are a regional party, hence their merger with CPC.

Hypothetically, If APC wins the presidency 2015 or 2019, which strong Igbo man is in that party. That means the beginning of another long era of no presidency for the Igbo.

Common sense shld have told the Igbos that they need a very strong representation in the newly formed party, Just incase the party becomes a force to recon with. Even if it means "sacrificing" some strong PDP or APGA members. Its all about strategising and learning to be at the right place at the right time. The foolish Igbos are busy insulting the new party, without knowing what the future holds. You can always give it to the SW, they know how to adapt well and get what they want.

Do not alienate urselves frm any new movement, have some strong representation there, If it fails, y'all still have ur guys back and if it succeeds, you guys get to gain. But never never never align only with one party and hope to be handed the presidency at ur time. Y'all will just keep being, eing f**ked over.
First, you failed to mention the stupidt place you come from so that I can know how wise your people are politically. For me, Okonkwo made a wise move by dumping the party whose vision and mission remains a top secret to Nigerians in general and igbo in particular, a party who mindlessly humiliated and deported Igbos and take pride in defending themselves. A party that has succeeded in bankrupting Imo State. If presidency is reason Igbos should subject to APC torture, then to hell with them. Mind you, no person can win presidency without the vote of Ndigbo.

. The immediate-past interim Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Annie Okonkwo, has resigned his membership of the party.Okonkwo, who is also the President of C21, an Igbo socio-political group in a statement he signed yesterday, said he resigned his membership because of the party’s scruffy promises, lack of internal democracy, clannish and sectional disposition of the leadership, adding thatAPC had no good plans for the South-East people. His words: “The national chairman of the party is aware of my involvement in the formation of this party from the outset when all members were given onerous task of setting up a party to epitomise change.“I committed myself financially, mentally and socially. I believed firmly in the lofty ideal we had jointly and severally set for ourselves.“The conviviality, genreand comrade spirit I had hoped for amongstthe progressives in the formation of this party has taken a flight.“What I see now is a gathering of non-progressives that do not have the interest of the party at heart, hence, my decision to quit the party.“I stepped down my gubernatorial ambitionfor peace to be in the party but instead of being hailed for this sacrifice, I was hunted and hounded, which orchestrated my suspension from duty as deputy national chairman (South) on a trumped-up petition of anti-party activities.”

The United States said on Friday it had decreased its surveillance flights in the search for the about 219 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram, but added that the over all effort was unchanged due to more flights by other countries. It stated that it had no idea of the location of the girls, noting however that there is no letup in the efforts to locate and rescue them.“We don’t have any better idea today than we did before about where these girls are, but there’s been no letup of the effort itself,” Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby told reporters, according to Reuters.Kirby said the same level of effort was being sustained now through international involvement.A US defence official speaking on condition of anonymity said American flights had been reduced only after a body of intelligence had been gathered and that the cuts had been offset by the British and the French support.Kirby denied a suggestion that US flights over Nigeria had been reduced to accommodate increased US surveillance over Iraq, where Washington is flying unmanned and manned aircraft to gather intelligence about Sunni insurgents. He said some of the resources that were being used in Nigeria had been diverted from other missions in Africa and could now be used elsewhere on the continent.Officials declined to say how long heightened U.S. surveillance over Nigeria had lasted.Asked whether it was just a week or two, the defence official said, “No. We were building this baseline for a good period of time.”US surveillance flights over Nigeria were now intermittent, thesource said.US military personnel are in Abuja helping to coordinate the effort, and some 80 others were sent to Chad in May to support the surveillance operation.Chad is northeast of Nigeria and borders the area in which Boko Haram is known to operate. In the last month, US officials had played down expectations about a swift rescue of the girls and stressed the limitations of intelligence from surveillance flights. One US official voiced concerns that Boko Haram might have booby-trapped areas where the girls could be held, and there had been reports that they might have been split up into groups that were not being held in one place. The defence official said surveillance alone would not lead to a resolution. “It will take the Nigerian piece of the equation with their own sources and human intelligence coupled with the other forms to really understand the picture,” he noted. In an opinion piece in the Washington Poston Friday, President Goodluck Jonathan said his government and security services had “spared no resources, have not stopped and will not stop until the girls are returned home.”

. FORMER Osun State governor, PrinceOlagunsoye Oyinlola, at the weekend, held a crucial parley with his supporters in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on issues bordering on his struggle to reclaim his position as the national secretaryof the party through the judiciary.Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered that Oyinlola, who was under intense pressure by the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to team up with the incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola to ensure victory forAPC in the governorship election, was said to have informed his loyalists that his decision to leave or stay in PDP rested on President Goodluck Jonathan. The impeccable source, who was partof a meeting held at the Okuku country home of the former governoron Saturday evening, said “Oyinlola informed us that he would remain committed to the PDP, regardless of his travails over the protracted battleon national secretaryship, which is now before the Supreme Court in Abuja.”According to the source, the former governor restated his firm conviction that he remained the only legally recognised national secretary of PDP,saying he (Oyinlola) would only consider leaving the party “if the president tells him to go.”Oyinlola was also quoted to have said that President Jonathan was deeply and actively involved in the process that produced him as the secretary, adding that if he would have to change party, only the president’s order to leave could make him dump his party.“The meeting was just to know exactly the stand of Prince Oyinlola. The visit by the APC leaders and the series of reports that followed it are making some of us uncomfortable and he has assured us of his readiness to support the PDP,” the source hinted.ADVERTISEMENTOn the non-involvement of Oyinlola in the electioneering activities of the PDP governorship candidate in the state, the source said “Oyinlola informed us that since his suspension has not been lifted, he was not allowed to participate in party activities.”

Politics › DECISION TO CONTEST THE EKITI POLLS SHOWS APC IS A BAD LOSER by PhockPhockMan(op):
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest the outcome of the Ekiti State gubernatorial election in court was consistentwith the flaw in the character of the party. The PDP, therefore, warned theAPC that even in resolve to go to court, the people of Ekiti must be allowed to enjoy the peaceful environment that pervades the state. In an interview with reporters in Abuja at the weekend, the Special Adviser to the Presidenton Political Matters, Professor Ahmed Alkali insisted that the Ekiti election was transparent and free of rancour. He said even though many people were surprised that Governor Fayemi immediately accepted the result and congratulated Fayose, the PDP was not as it had led the way inconceding victory in past gubernatorial elections.“First and foremost, let me say that today, the world is a witness about what happened in Ekiti state. It is well known that the election was conducted free of rancour, transparently and the outcome was decisive in favour of our party,” Alkali said.“We have thought that with thenew face emerging now where people accept defeats when they know they have lost, I think it should be allowed to grow so that we can now begin to mature as a democracy.”The presidential aide added that it was unfortunate that theAPC was now keen on a legal battle after its candidate already extended a hand of friendship to the governor-elect.

. Sao Paulo (Brazil) – Football’s governing body, FIFA, has agreed to allow the Nigeria Football Supporters Club to bring in its musical instruments into the stadium in Brazil, provided there is aback-up letter from Nigeria Football Association (NFA).Rafiu Oladipo, the President-Generalof the club, said at a news conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday that the club had consequently forwarded a letter to NFA requesting for the letter.Oladipo said that the letter must reach FIFA 24 hours ahead of the Nigeria/France second round match on Monday. He added that the letter would also cover Nigeria for other matches in case the Super Eagles qualify for the quarter finals.FIFA said it had not officially denied the club the right of singing, drumming and trumpeting during Nigeria’s matches but that the club had never requested officially. The club had been denied the use ofmusical instruments in various stadia where the Super Eagles played their Group F preliminary matches, a development the players disliked.FIFA had insinuated that members ofclub were likely to use the musical instruments as weapons during Eagles matches.During Nigeria’s first round matches in Curitiba, Cuiaba and Porto Alegrie, the supporters’ musical instruments were seized at stadium gates but released after each match.Oladipo said that members of the club were never known for violence and pledged not to allow them use the instruments as weapons during Nigeria’s matches. He expressed confidence that Super Eagles would defeat France in the next round as Nigeria had beaten France before. He, however, continued to solicit the support of Nigerians at home for the team, saying it was their prayers thathad helped the team progress in the competition.
