Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House of Representatives Tuesday night endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan second term bid in 2015. The lawmakers had met with the president at the presidential Villa. In a short chat with State House correspondents after the meeting, Leader of the House, Mulikat Akande said the endorsement became necessary as a result of the achievements recorded by Jonathan's administration. However, the Speaker of House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal was absent at the meeting.Asked why the speaker was absent, Akande said the question should be directed to the speaker.Details to follow. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/reps-pdp-caucus-endorses-jonathan-for-second-term/183612/

In a move aimed at paving the way for his declaration to contest the 2015 presidential election slated for February, President Goodluck Jonathan will, at 9 pm today, meet all the governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as well as the National Chairman of the party, Adamu Mu’azu. Prior to meeting the governor, they will be expected to meet at the Asokoro, Abuja residence of the national chairman with other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party before proceeding to the Presidential Villa to meet with the president and some key cabinet members. A presidency source told THISDAY that the second meeting between the president, governors and Mu’azu is expected to be the icebreaker, as Jonathan would use the opportunity to inform the party and the governors of his decision to seek a second term in office. According to the source, “The decision to officially inform the party and the governors stems from his recognition of the governors as being the field commanders in their states and it would not be fair for them and the party to get the information of his decision to seek re-election secondhand.”Though it is common knowledge that Jonathan’s loyalists have been showcasing the achievements of his transformation agenda, he has not officially declared his intention to seek re-election.THISDAY further gathered that the PDP governors, in their first meeting with Mu’azu and NWC, will be expected to re-table their demand for those completing their second terms to play a role in who succeeds them, while those in their first terms would be asking for automatic tickets to seek re-election. The source told THISDAY, “You don’t discard a winning team and cause trouble by calling for primaries when you know that some of the governors are interested in second terms in office. We have to first give the governors on their first terms, the right of first refusal.”Equally, the South-south governors and other stakeholders of the party will tomorrow meet in Calabar to ratify the nomination of Hon. Cairo Ujuogbo as the new National Vice Chairman of the party. This is as a result of the vacuum created with the appointment of Dr. Steve Oru as the Minister of the NigerDelta Ministry. Oru was the former National Vice Chairman for the South-south geopolitical zone.Immediately after Oru was confirmed minister by the Senate, the Delta State PDP chapter summoned a meeting for the replacement of the new minister. The meeting was attended by PDP stakeholders from the Senate, House of Representatives, Delta State Houseof Assembly, and the state governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan. Others who attended the meeting were Chief Edwin Clark, Mu’azu and the Chairman of the PDP in the state, Peter Nwaobosi. At the meeting, Ojougbo was unanimously nominated to take over from Oru, as the office of the National Vice Chairman had been zoned to Delta State. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/jonathan-meets-pdp-govs-mu-azu-on-re-election-bid/183568/ |

@ berem, I do understand your point, but one thing you supposed to understand is that those so called experienced officers are the same people at helm of affairs while violent crimes is consuming the country. As far as I'm concerned, they're all retirement materials. They should all go so that productive young ones will take charge. |
gboss4sure: Chest beatersNo mind them. |
berem: I will stamp GEJ a certified clueless dolt if he dares risk loosing top police officers because of Joseph Mbu for selfish reasons best known to him.I know you're weeping while writing this trash. So only when he appoint a Buhari nominee he will be "CLUE FULL" for your eyes abi? What you must know is that Jonathan has been shaping and sharpening Joseph Mbu for the top job since his days as Rivers state CP. Nwa Nne m, Ndo, Hichaa Anya gi. |

As the curtain is about to fall finally on the tenure of the current Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, the scheming and intrigues over who takes over from him are getting more intense by the day. Though it is not clear who will be the next IGP as the decision rests squarely with President Goodluck Jonathan, who is also the chairman of the Police Council, a reliable source at the Presidency told Saturday Independentin Abuja that the earlier plan of the President to extend the tenure of Abubakar till after the 2015 elections may not be feasible. Mbu Joseph Mbu This, according to the source, is because many forces are against the plan to allow Abubakar to continue in office beyond July 31.As the lobbying and counter-lobbying intensifies, few names are said to be receiving upper hand in the race for the new IGP. And two of the most prominent names, according to our source, are DIG Suleiman Fakai, who is the most senior officer next to Abubakar. He is also currently in charge of the department of finance and administration. He is said to enjoy the support and backing of other senior officers in the Force.Another name that is said to be receiving favourable backing and mention from the lobbyists, is the current Commissioner of Police in charge of Federal Capital Territory(FCT), Mbu Joseph Mbu.Mbu came to national limelight as a result of his roles in the political crisis in Rivers State from where he was transferred to the FCT.Those clamouring for Mbu and who are mostly South South indigenes, are said to be doing that through the office of the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.According to our source, “one of their arguments is that since the current democratic dispensation, no South South person has been appointed to that position. They believe that after Abubakar, it willbe just and fair for a South South person to head the police force.”But Fakai is said to be having an advantage because, according to our source, “if Fakai is made the IGP, it means that all the senior officers will remain in the force. This has made almost all the senior officers to throw their support behind him. This, the Presidency is also considering because it means that all the experienced hands will still remain in service and continue to make their contributions to the fight for an end to terrorism in thecountry.”The source also said that the concern among stakeholders and power brokers at the Presidency is that if Mbu is made the IGP, all the other senior and experienced hands will have no option but to retire and that option will not be good for the force. Saturday Independent investigation revealed that if Mbu is eventually made the IGP, six deputy inspectors general (DIGs), 19 assistant inspectors general (AIGs) and 14 commissioners of police (CPs) will be forced out of the Force. And DIGs that may have to go if Mbu takes over from Abubakar include Fakai, Michael Zuokumor, who is in charge of operations, Emmanuel Udoji, logistics and supply; Atiku Kafur, in charge of training; Peter Gana, who calls theshot at investigation department, Jonathan Johnson in charge of department of information communication technology; and AIGs like Dan’azumi Doma, Force Secretary and AIG Solomon Arase, in charge of Force Intelligence Bureau. One of the DIGs that may go if Mbu gets the top job reluctantly told us, “I don’t have anything to tell you. We are waiting to see what will happen. Everything rests in the hands of the President.”And as they wait to see who the President will pick for the job, all the DIGs, AIGs and even the CPs are said to be living in anxiety as they have no clue as to who will step into the shoes of Abubakar. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2014/07/six-digs-19-aigs-14-cps-may-go-mbu-becomes-igp/ |
A former Corps Marshall of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), General Anthony Hannaniya (retd), has asked President Goodluck Jonathan not to intervene in the ongoing impeachment process against Adamawa State governor, Murtala Nyako. Hannaniya who spoke with Saturday Sun, wondered how Nyako who accused Jonathan of sponsoring terrorism in the North East, would now turn to the president for assistance. The embattled governor, despite accusing the president of carrying out genocide in an open letter he wrote to his colleagues in April, did not ruleout the possiblity of seeking President Jonathan’s assistance.“It has not reached that crisis point. We have supported him all this time; he has supported us and in situations like these when Mr. President’s support isrequired, we will seek it,” Nyako had said. But Hannaniya who hails from Adamawa and one of the stakeholders in the state said he was surprised that Nyako has suddenly turned around to beg Jonathan to save him after dragging the name of the president into the mud with hisreckless accusations.“I am surprised that Nyako is making a turn around. He who wrote so many unprintable things about Jonathan with regards to terrorists’ activities, is the same person who is now calling on Jonathan to intervene.“We pray that Jonathan will stay clear of this issue and allow natural justice to take its course because Nyako does notdeserve any mercy at all”, Hannaniya stated. http://dailypost.ng/2014/07/12/impeachment-jonathan-help-nyako-ex-frsc-boss-hannaniya/ |

egift: Aligbo has betrayed itself by playing seconding fiddle to an Ijaw Zoologist just for crumbs. It's better than to play second fiddle to illiterate terrorists. |
500GP: IT WILL SURPRISE THE IBO THAT GEJ WON'T HANDOVER TO THEMJust cry for yourself, leave Igbos to plan for their future. Will buhari hand over to Igbo if he wins? (God forbid). I know the headache of yorubas, if Buhari becomes president with Yoruba as vice, the possibility of Yoruba vice completing the term as the result of death of President is 50/50, if that fails and the north complete 8 years, the next eight years will be for Yoruba. Following a party like APC that lack internal democracy is like jumping into a bottomless pit. |
"Governor Okorocha is not in the good books of Ndigbo because he has desecrated all the values the Igbo hold dear. He was elected under APGA, which is the symbol of Igbo strength. What did he do? He betrayed APGA and abandoned the party. He dethroned a whole Chairman of South-East traditional rulers, Eze Ilomuaya, and the next day, he went to Kano to bow to an Emir-elect. You know that Ohanaeze Ndigbo has publicly disowned Rochas and stripped him of all chieftainancy titles? He does not have respect for Igbo elders. He does not have respect for the Igbo intelligentsia. Rochas cannot represent the interest of Ndigbo. " Agukwe. |
gerald09: sorry oh just reading dis article and along the way I came across were he said "no past administration" but PDP was that "past administration" so APC is fighting PDP NOT GEJ.There was many past administrations before the formation of PDP. Get that into your empty skull. |
emiye: Surely Labour party can not come back in 2016 in Ondo state, barring any unforeseen circumstances. The honeymoon is over. |
