Babes Wodumo's music is a sub genre called "Gqom". but what is original? "Gqom" is a genre found only is South Africa so I would argue that is original South African music and not a derivative of anything , if maybe you are referring to the likes of Salif Keita and Youssour n Dour, I would also argue that they also use western instruments to produce their music. I don't believe in white or black music, music is a mode of expression if you are a black guy and you express yourself better in rock why not?

Sorry about that I thought it was kwaitio. Anyways, where I come from there are ORIGINAL Igbo music (Ogene,Ikoro etc), we also have Igbo Highlife which is closely related to the aforementioned traditional Igbo music. The Yorubas have their own core traditional music and then have Fuji,Juju, akpala etc. . . I don't know how things works for you guys in South Africa but they are strikingly different over here. BTW, music has an origin and therefore has racial inclination as you say yourself, it is a way of expressing yourself. . . A humans emotions are after all impacted by external influences. Rock (not to be mistaken with Rock n roll) is more related to traditional Nordic/Germanic music.

in the lab, where that girl Shuri designs tech for King T'chala , South African music is always playing in the background, I heard Babes Wodumo's Wololo, I also heard Busiswa's Gobisiqolo. not only that, five South African artists have been included in the official Black Panther soundtrack, also the South African language of isiXhosa is spoken in the movie

Thanks for pointing that out. However, you are totally missing my point here. I take it Babes song is Kwaito right?
But I am talking more about original African songs and not derivatives. Surely SA/ZA have original music right? They could have thrown that in somewhere. I keep referencing 300 because it was one of the best mix of European culture and modern influences. The Orchestra used were ancient styled Greek Orchestra, but at some point in the movie we still hear modern Rock (white peoples music).

okay, but what u first said above is that its a critical look of how Africa might have been if not for colonization but for me while I might celebrate it, I would not take such celebration over the top because such celebration is not grounded in reality. Yes we have the potential to be great but such a film I would look at it as an insult because they are showing us what essentially we might have been if they had not enslaved and sucked us dry. What I would rather want is that this should spur us to be more than that fictional landscape than to be celebrating our being used as fiction. if we all are challenged rather than looking at this film as a victory, it is possible to get us to a contemporary Wakanda level in reality in our lifetime. I am just stating my personal opinion.

Young handsome man caught red-handed stealing on Air Peace Flight

A young man by name Kunle Oni was recently caught stealing on Air Peace flight from Abuja to Lagos. As at the time he was apprehended by fellow passengers and airport security, he had already stolen several bundles of Naira notes belonging to other passengers from their luggage.
Mr Oni who boarded the flight with a supposed identity card of HB Company is a resident of Green Valley GRA.
Speaking while Mr Oni was being interviewed, another passenger who identified himself as the chairman of the Green Valley Estate GRA,where the suspect lives, promised to make sure that the suspect is brought to book.
Many passengers expressed shock that such a decently dressed young man could have boarded a flight with the sole purpose of stealing from others.

Black Panther is worth celebrating because it's the biggest superhero movie to feature a black superhero as the main character, most superheroes of marvel and DC have been of white or American origin . Second, it focuses on black Africa, a place which has been believed to be primitive ,here the movie brings out a beautiful version of Africa no one has ever imagined.
This movie might be one of the highest grossing movie of 2018, but unfortunately no credit will come to Africa but to Marvel Studios because it's an American company and it's their product.
It's now up to us to develop our own stories because another movie like black panther might never exist unless it comes from soil of Africa.

I like your point of view and I agree with some of your points to an extent, but BLADE is a Marvel lead character and he has always been black.
Simple question now is, are we suppose to be yelling black power over a movie based on fiction ?

Lmao.

So when they announce star wars and white people become so excited and giddy, dress up with light sabers etc, or when they go for Comic Con dressed in superhero costumes that one is fine.

But once its black people dressed in Ankara etc, it's foolery?

You get big problem o. Your psyche needs help

I'd send you 10k today if you show me a video of everyone in the Starwars/Startrek or any other non-fascist movie saying White power, White excellence, yada yada... I will wait. BTW, it appears a larger amount of individuals these days can't distinguish between race and fan-base. individuals of different nationality and race do the Startrek geek Vulcan hand salute. You should probably go back and read my post again. Comi-con is attended by individuals of every race, I never said cosplay was bad, but making a fictional movie a figure of racial excellence and defiance borders on retardation. I won't be convinced otherwise. As for the psyche reference. . . Have a look in the mirror. grin

There was a movie called Red Tails made in 2012 about African-American fighter pilots who were unsung world war heroes, also Hidden Figures made in 2016 about the first black female mathematicians who worked at NASA who calculated flight trajectories for Project Mercury and other missions .. . If we were shouting black power and showing defiance due to that, it would have been a different thing. But guess what? The movie bummed because dimwits refused to go watch it. The same ones celebrating fiction now.

obviously you are the dumb fucck in this arena because you have no sense of comprehension. If the drivel you have up there is the only thing you understood from the submission, then you need to go back to primary school and tell your english teacher to tutor you on comprehension all over again. Trying to enlighten you further on any of the above will be wasted effort. You just read to retort, instead of reading to understand within given context before responding.

Go and study social structures and mind alteration with the broader aspects of general black history and the attendant issues of race therein, then, maybe then, you might begin to have an iota of comprehension within the context of why people are identifying with the CONCEPT of the FICTIONAL MOVIE.

On the contrary, I think the individual who possesses the IQ of a kettle here is you. Reading through everything you have posted was quite a comical relief to me. Nice way to start my day. Thanks for the entertainment.

My good people, here is a good example of how people fail in their academics. grin

So in your reverse-educated mind, you actually think you made sense with this post?

In your supposed rant, you clearly thought the celebration was because the movie is about black panther. Sorry to burst your bubble but the celebration is not about black panther as a movie. It is a celebration of the movie industry coming full circle and giving a major headline, big budget movie a black cast steeped in excellence. If you still don't understand why it is a big deal, maybe you should first of all, get to studying (if you know how to) the history of race and racism in the film/movie industry.

You sound intellectually handicapped to a slight degree with your assertions and I will point that out. First off, in your words the industry has gone "full circle". Do you at all know the meaning of that term? To go full circle you need a starting and an end point. Think about words before you use them. the era of Silver screen ended a long time ago. The new industry is not about to end because of some irrelevant black panther movie. Also just to show how minuscule and restricted your intellectual capacity is, you went ahead to attribute this to a victory over racism. When in fact it is just a well calculated sales strategy aimed at weak , underdeveloped minded, unintelligent black individuals such as yourself using the "black history month" or whatever you people call that thing over there as a catalyst. Knowing just how drunk on emotion and desperate for attention most of you will be at the time.

judgedredd22:

Secondly, it is big in america mostly because the movie's (with it's historical significance and context) release is in February - which in America is Black History month. Get it? (that is also why the movie company slated the release to sync, for maximum effect and profits - it s still someone's biz you know cheesy )

Good to see you discrediting your own argument here. You truly have mastered the art of paradoxical commentary. As I earlier stated his whole thing "is just a well calculated sales strategy aimed at weak underdeveloped minded, unintelligent black individuals", guess whose winning again? Yup, WHITE MAN! Now to expose you for the uninformed, blabbering buffoon you have made yourself, did you honestly say cultural significance? I hope you didn't say that in reference to the Black panther revolutionary movement, that was founded by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton in October 1966. Because the black panther made his first appearance in a comic as early as July 1966 that's an astonishing 3 months before the movement was formed. You should be the one picking up a book.

judgedredd22:

Thirdly, within the context of the movie, though it might be fiction, it epitomises independence and excellence set in african landscape which is contrary to already formed opinions/stereotypes about africa as a land of uncivilized, primitive people in need of constant help and support (Que Donald Trump's 'shithole' comment some weeks ago). The movie is already helping to shape narratives towards the positive in this context. A whole lot of foreigners are ignorant in this aspect.

You did spell epitomizes wrongly. I am surprise! I am supposed to be the one with "reverse-education" right? Anyway, there is A HUMONGOUS difference between fiction and reality. Reality was Captain America 3 Civil War: LAGOS,NIGERIA. Where we had a local market, crowded refuse littered streets, and undomesticated animals roaming freely just outside the UN Building!!! Yet some how you believe the same franchise is trying to "shape narratives" about Africa positively, using a non-existent state as reference? Were you high on glue when you typed this BS? I like how you once again acknowledge FICTION, btw.

judgedredd22:
These issues may seem trivial to you, as a shortsighted individual that you are. If you ever lived outside the shores of the african continent then maybe you would begin to understand the weight of shaping narratives. Just like Chimamanda Adichie has been trying to do by shaping the mindsets of foreigners towards africa through FICTION and breaking away the laid down history from a single story point of view, as told by colonialists. I'm sure you never understood why she is widely celebrated.

Every writer is celebrated for the uncanny manner by which they captivate the readers mind and paint a realistic picture of the story described in texts. Give yourself brain my guy you are making a big joke of your education here.

judgedredd22:

So, next time before you start spewing brain farts, do some reading and studying on the subject in question before making a fool of yourself in public. And the music/soundtrack to the movie is not chiefly american music, if you must know. The artistes are mostly black and african (with exception of james blake), from europe, africa and america. Which on its own, is nod to the cohesion of the black race across continents.

Care to explain how it is a nod, when the movie is African themed but lack TRUE African music? I'd like to have a laugh at what you come up with here. Its been fascinating reading and rebutting all the BS you have spewed so far.

judgedredd22:

Movies might be FICTION, but there's a lot that goes into movie projects by way of subliminal messaging which has a lot of stakes behind it.
Have you ever wondered what africa would have been like as at today, without the interference of the foreigners - arabian, european and american? That is the sub-message behind the movie and that is why blacks all over are hyped - it is about the social narrative, not FICTIONAL Black Panther. Maybe you should study some history and be informed context-wise. Before the slavery era, africans were technologically advanced and educated, and were kings in EUROPE, yes, the same europe!

You need to get your reasoning upgraded, from the kindergaten level where it is at the moment, to that of an aware black adult. READ!!

The last part of this post gives you away as an absurdly dumb individual who hears and runs with what he has been told without studying.
You talk about technological advancement everyone knows about the pyramids, everyone knows about the Ethiopian monoliths, about the first up-stairs buildings in the world (Mali), About the first university in Timbuktu, The wall of Zimbabwe and Mozambique... bla bla bla, those are historical events and achievements, how about we focus on the present and future? And how did you come up with the we were kings in Europe talk? That is arrant IGNORANCE! It only affirms my assertions of your arguments being unintelligent and misinformed. The first Invasion of Europe by a Black African was when Hannibal occupied and ruled much of Italy for 15 years but was unable to march on Rome. The second being the Moorish invasion, when Berber autochthones of the Maghreb (Blacks), Arabs and Touregs invaded The Iberian peninsula of Europe, with statues of black kings and queens as evidence in far away Portugal, Sicily etc, long after the they were defeated and driven back to Africa. Those were conquered territories, and in common sense you preside over territories you conquer. I am not sure you will understand that though. Looks like you spelled Kindergarten wrong too, oops!
