The Americans came to Akwa Ibom for a medical outreach, showed symptoms and still did the programme. They returned to US on 18th, of the 20 who visited, I have confirmed 3 positive tests. Most of them are not reachable or cooperating with us for information.

But confirmed that 11 medics who worked with them have full blown symptoms in Uyo/Akwa Ibom. No test kits to confirm. Symptomatic cases include a friend of one of the nurses - basically a second level contact.

Short summary:

Arrived -> Delta 6th
Arrived on Ibom - 6th, Ibom Air
Drove to Eket

Next day, 7th March, went to Uyo

Returned Ibom Air - 18th Ibom Air
US - > Delta - 18th

Started showing symptoms 14th - body aches/fever

Stayed at De Castle Hotel, Uyo

Medical outreach - Police Hospital, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo
Saw 200 people/day for 4 days

Birthday party - 14th March - met entire Nsasak village, Essien Udim

Tested positive test confirmed 26th March, Dallas, TX


APPEAL FOR URGENT INTERVENTION !

1. All those that attended the burial at Eket , Akwa Ibom State(AKS) on Saturday where persons came from high risk countries should be screened and isolated ASAP.

2. All those that attended the well talked about outreach at Police Clinic,Ikot Akpan Abia,Uyo ,AKS should be traced,screened and isolated. We understand some health personnel from some facilities were involved and they had long resumed duty at their primary place of assignment,hence increasing the scope of tracing. So if we had nurses from General Hospital,Ikot Ekpene (GH-Ik) AKS who attended this outreach ,the GH-IK staff are also possible persons who should be screened and isolated. All clients who have visited this hospital thereafter should be traced and screened.

3. All high profile indigenes including public office holders at the federal and state levels ,who came in from Abuja,Lagos and the high risk countries should as a matter of public health interest be screened and isolated further.

4. All health personnel should be screened.

5. Many citizens in Akwa Ibom State are willing to subject themselves for testing,where should they go to!

6. It is alleged that many persons are self medicating Secretly?

7. Agencies/Task force should be put in place to enforce the ban on large gatherings that are still open is a thing of public concern.

8. Many Members of the public are still moving around unconcerned and uninformed of this visitor in town.
Thorough sensitization of people without access to print and electronic media should be carried out urgently.

9. What are measures put in place to check all those that permeated our riverine borders this month?
Have all our borders in the state been closed?
Are there screening measures put in place to check every person passing through them?
Are we keeping data of all persons who are coming into the state in the last one week?
It is alleged that our law enforcement agents are collecting monies at road borders and letting people pass rather than enforcing the closure as proscribed by the federal government. This is unacceptable and should be stopped.

10. These points are of public health importance ,and should be treated as such.
