DeepSight:I don't need to read the post to be able to refute the argument that mind is this or that. It's like saying that information is independent of the source. Brain ( matter) generates consciousness ( mind). Consciousness is not independent of the brain that generates it. A foetus becomes conscious only when the electrical activity in the brain reaches a certain voltage threshold. Consciousness, a.k.a mind, is the product of electrical activity in the physical brain. Brain injuries in different parts of the brain helps us to understand how mind, reality and perspective are controlled by the physical brain. Even the ' spiritual experience ' is housed and controlled and affected by a certain portion of the brain. Pls read up on Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and the Religious experience. |
DeepSight:No I didn't. I wasn't even aware of it. |
Versitee:The debate here is that every Nigerian believes in God. Every God believer believes that God is the architect of their fortunes, personal and collective. Every God believing Nigerian prays multiples times a day from childhood to old age. Churches and Mosques pray multiple times each day and night. Offerings, vigils, tithes, seed sowing, evangelism are all done to beseech and placate a God that is expected to acknowledge, bless and protect the faithful. Faith, worship, offerings , prayers, etc, are deemed spiritual investments from which celestial dividends are expected, and much much needed in this darkest hour of Nigeria's checkered existence. If faith and worship are spiritual investments, at what point in our personal and national life do we put a stop loss , cut our losses, and perhaps begin to consider other investment options? For goodness sake, Nigeria's investment in the God stock has plummeted in value over the past 200yrs (?) to zero. What gives ? |
DeepSight:Sounds quite sweet and romantic as a belief, to soothe our anxieties about our mortality. No evidence has ever been adduced to support the so-called non-physical. Even in spooky arena of sub-atomic physics (quantum physics), we still employ scientific methodology to try understand it bit by bit. " just believe me bro " just doesn't cut it. DeepSight:No evidence. How you feel or one's personal perspective is not the same as EVIDENCE. Evidence means something that is objectively standard to anyone, everyone, everywhere, everytime. |
DeepSight:Science is a quest, a series of questions, one after the other. |
DeepSight:You know that's just an educated guess, at best. If scientific investigation, the foundation of everything we currently know about the universe, cannot explain spirit or God, then what are basis for a belief not grounded in the immutable laws of math and physics? If we don't have foundational basis (science) with which to understand reality, then it all comes down to " just believe me bro" . |
Since the dawn of human history, Religious people have advanced all sorts of arguments to support the existence of whatever God or diety that they believe in. In the the prescience era, their arguments carried a lot weight, mostly because proof or evidence was not a requirement. In the modern scientific era however, goddists have struggled to explain the existence of their particular God in the face of numerous advances in knowledge about the universe, our Earth and biological life. So these days, the Religious folks have to do quiet a lot of logical acrobatics, mostly absurd fallacies, to justify their faith. On this particular forum, non believers have been asked several times to prove that God does not exist. Well, even though it is the responsibility of the believers to show proof of the existence of God, the nation of Nigeria does make a compelling case ,in fact, absolute proof, that God does not exist. This is a nation of 200m+ people who expend the most time and energy to worship and pray to God. In my 50+ years of life, no single prayer has been answered in Nigeria and for Nigeria. Despite our absurd fixation with religion and our religiosity, Nigeria can best be described as a God-forsaken nation. When will it become conscious in our minds that whoever sold us this grand bogey, has left us holding the bag full of desert sand ? How long shall we continue to carry this bag of desert sand ? DeepSight:Lol. My brother, how are you doing? I hope you're holding up well in this dystopian paradise. I scratch my head everyday. It's impossible for me to understand Nigeria and Nigerians anymore. I think I need to go back school, with a clean slate, to make another attempt at understanding human nature. |
Righthussle:There is hardly anything to be proud of in Africa. We can go on blaming anything or anyone we can think of, but the bitter truth is that there is no enduring legacy that I can be proud of as a Nigerian. Rather, shame upon shame is what I feel with every piece of news out of Nigeria. |
BeeBeeOoh:And an emergency contract has to quickly awarded for the provision of tens of thousands back bands. Yeye people. Another day in the dystopian paradise. |
nedu666:Don't mind the half brain idiot. Let me try to debunk most of the bogus and misleading figures thrown around by this fraudster. 1. First, he said our exports are more than our imports. We'll, what are those exports? Agricultural goods, manufactured goods ? The same oil and gas exports that has remained the mainstay of the economy. We are importing less because purchasing power of the Middle class has been completely decimated by ill-concieved adhoc policies. No strides have been made in any new export sector. We are on the verge of importing basic food for sustenance. 2. The Nigerian stock exchange making new highs is certainly not measure of economic well-being, especially in our dystopian, generator-run economy. In fact, stock markets are know to thrive when the middle class is under attack and when income disparity is widest. 3. A temporary blip of foreign reserve Growth as a measure of economic well-being is laughable, so laughable, it needs no explanation. Genuine Foreign reserve Growth without a corresponding strengthening of the domestic currency is a joke, facade. 4. Did he say that industrial production has increased? Where ? 5. Did he say that Nigeria is now fuel- import free ? Since when , and why are we still hearing about landing costs associated with refined petroleum? 6. Did I hear him say no more pipeline of borrowing? What is he talking about? Tinubu has borrowed more money in 1yr than any previous president did in that same span of time. It is rather unbelievable, even heartless for a desperate political jobber, only after his own stomach infrastructure , insult the sensibilities of hungry and frustrated Nigerians with bogus statistics. In this current state, only a policy or program to drastically bring down the price of fuel, drastically strengthen the Naira, give 24hr electricity nationwide ,improve agricultural production 3 fold, and improve security would bring succour to the suffering masses. |
Kelechi009:Pure Nonsense. Obama is not pulling any strings behind any scenes. He's just using his genuine popularity to campaign for his party. That is a very very normal thing to do. |
Bashoruntolu:I couldn't have said better. Especially now that we have to get permission to sing the national anthem. This dystopian paradise is getting wayyyyyy too dystopian for me. |
adamusuleiman3:Idiotic. What are the countries worse than Nigeria? |

Ha ha ha. Once again, another useless, failed and shameless African leader running abroad for vacation and health. What a joke. October 1st was 64th independence anniversary October 2nd should be a day of national crying and mourning for 64yrs of a dream betrayed. |
LordviccoDaGuru:I'm very sure that my definition of achievement is not the same with yours. I have lived up to my own goals and expectations as well as that of my community, and I continue to grow. Buhari, on the other hand, both in his first and second missionless journeys into leadership, have proven to be a curse upon the nation. He stole power with barrel of a gun once, and second by grand deceit, and yet , on both occasions he brought nothing but pestilence and desolation. |
Africa's very very useless leaders, who would run their nations aground, but quick to run to other countries for their personal comfort and health. Very very useless. |
Kobojunkie:Best comment so far. When will people learn ? Religion is a scam. Adeboye is a scammer. |
Bliss4Lyfe:Nonsense. This sounds so dumb. That's not a defense. By such logic we should all be intentionally committing crimes because other persons provoked us. |
Bliss4Lyfe:Canada arrests and prosecute people, almost daily , for making threats against individuals or groups. |
Bliss4Lyfe:If true. The so-called lawsuit is frivolous and won't see the light of day in a courtroom. Abike, no matter her prejudices, was acting in the public interest. Amaka's act of posting public threats in the category of hate crime, is a criminal offense under Canadian law. The fact that she has been criminally charged is the best evidence that Abike was acting in the public interest. |
NaMyData:A good quality man has easy access to as many women as he can handle. I still wonder why women continue to delude themselves that they are the PRIZE. |
Racoon:I know you're reading this Reno. Now, I find it very very odd that you failed, even once to mention corruption in our political leadership and how holding corrupt ofgice holders accountable and stamping out corruption is the best and simplest solution to Nigeria's perennial fuel problem. Nigeria's current fuel problems are 100% as a result of corruption. Corruption at the highest levels of power ,corruption in the petroleum ministry, corruption at the management of the refineries, mind boggling corruption at NNPC. If there was no systemic and institutionalized corruption from Aso Rock to the Refineries and to the petrol stations, we would have no need to import fuel and no talk of fuel subsidies. But just like the political jobber and hatchet man that you are, you are indirectly blaming the victims of corrupt governance for mess they are in. |
eejo:Buhari |
ExAngel007:Why should this make front page ? Has Nairaland become this bad ? |
Glimpsetv:Very funny and Disappointing. A random stranger with no credentials makes an outrageous statement, they put it on the front page, and Everyone is making silly statements up and down. The Disappointing thing is that not a single commentator bothers to fact- check her nor asks her credentials as a public health spokesperson. Are you all really that gullible? Sad. |
A House of FOOLS. Nigeria is a fake nation, where thieves and lootercrats delude themselves that singing the fake national anthem is all that is required to be a patriot. |
StillDtruth:Nigeria are the most god-worshipping people in the world. Yet, plagues upon plagues, one after the other continually besiege Nigeria, with no single ray of light at the end of the tunnel. What gives ? If one was looking for proof that God is a delusion, then Nigeria represents that proof. |
LordReed:Indeed. |
StillDtruth:Like I always say, a god is as good or silly as the mind that creates it. |
