I saw questions on the 2nd page asking for sources to learn Java Script. To beginners that say Java Script is difficult I recommend you try using Grasshopper App

I introduced my self to programming using Grasshopper and it has laid a good foundation for me. If you're learning JavaScript or learned already you can pm me. I'll like to have like-minded people around smiley

Use internet wisely to boost your practical skills from time to time while in school, otherwise, if you lost your focus while in school, by the time you graduate, you may not know beyond writing program to solve quadratic equation or matrices.
Thank you very much Sir. Thank you.

EducationI Just Realised I Love Programming But I Applied For Arhitecture. What Do I Do? by Plaouse(op):
Hello Nairalanders,

It's said: 'If you don't know what you love doing keep trying different things until you find it'

I had always thought of being an architect; I like architecture but I've never really loved it.

While i was in Jss3 architecture was suggested to me as a career because I liked the subject Basic Technology (a subject similar to Technical Drawing).

I had heard of programming but I never tried it until a month+ away from now when I put my hands on some JavaScript programming and my heart was instantly drawn to it. The way I can use JS to create algorithm so fascinates me. I just feel at ease with it.

I do want to study Computer Science in the university now, but unfortunate for me I didn't come to this realisation before I chose my course of interest.
Please help me, I've already applied for architecture. Is there a way I can change my course?
All I advice will be helpful.

Thank you in advance.

PS: I applied to UNN

You can get the Redmi Note 9s 6/128GB for slight less than that. Check the Xiaomi Thread Store for deals from reputable sellers. You can check the Xiaomi Thread for reviews on users with the device.
Thanks. Why do you suggest it?

With all of your informative comments, which I' m grateful for, can someone learn game design and development just as a side skill? Side skill such as website design, graphics design, video creating... etc.

I'm a student, studing something not close to programming talkless of game creation. Many a student flow with study and practice of such skills mentioned above successfully - can this be so with gaming too? I mean-- not that I'm frightened by the challenge therein, but just to avoid regrets in the future: can an engineering student succeed in school and also in game creation as a side hustle? (NOTE that he works alone)

See when handling 3D you don't need a programming language, you just need to know how to use blender. Check it when you are free.

How lucrative do you think self published games (indie games) are?

darkdenizen:
I always advise game developers to focus on indie games production. It is less tasking, more fun, depends solely on the creators creativity and u still get all the props.

building a game such as the one op posted is a waste of time because there are countless games with similar gameplay which makes it less interesting
Do you know The Sims? Its a life simulation game. Is it an Indie game?

They are the gods of programming but in case you need to use the Unity gaming engine learn C#, it's large but if you can get through C++ you can get through C#.
Alright.
Are there any variables in these languages when handling 2d - 3d, or the languages (C,C++ and C#) are suitable for all?
ProgrammingRe: How Can I Design And Develop A Game by Plaouse(op): 10:34am On Jun 30, 2020
Ausrichie:
Yes start with C especially, you need to build your foundation with memory management bro, because hardcore games don't use little languages they require big languages like C or C++ so just learn them. I advise you.
Thank you.
How efficient are these languages in gaming, will I need to learn another on the way?
ProgrammingRe: How Can I Design And Develop A Game by Plaouse(op): 10:26am On Jun 30, 2020

I haven't, my laptop spoilt some months back, but there are many tutorials on YouTube my advice is don't aim too high for now. Just learn C then C++. Next move on to learning CryEngine keep your mind focused on small projects. By the way there another game engine called Godot which is small but a little hard, there are tutorials out there too for it but best stick with CryEngine.
C nd C++, are they the languages you recommend I start with, considering that I' m a beginner to programming too?

I tried using many game engines, all I can say is dat game dev is so brain tasking for one person, I prefer to focus more on the graphical part(if it is 2d). Hopefully one day, I will be part of a game dev team.
We may work together after my training cheesy I' ld be good at what I do.

No man. Why panic? Most traders and business men you see successful today dint study what they are doing now in school!

Education is not the learning of facts but the training of the mind to think. Educate your self for what you want as many are doing today - use the internet. It has and will always be a blessing to does who use it well.

Mind you, its not what someone says that you should anchor your hopes on.

High hopes man!

Then stick with front end and learning JS as a language.
There are many frameworks for front end designers
ReactJS, VueJS, AngularJs, Bootstrap
All are based on JavaScript.

Learn java script and learn HTML, CSS and those frameworks then you will be a badass frontend coder.
What programming languages should one learn for backend and fullstark generaly?

Na big game nah. But GTA was made by rockstar and they have their own proprietary game engine but you can make something exactly like that with CryEngine.
Nice. This is gonna take me a long time to master.
Have you designed games, or you know someone that does; i'ld be needing more info

Hello,
I have had an idea of a game to create for a while now - a life simulation game to be precise. I' ve created no games before, and for this I' m just beginning to acknowledge some programming languages I need to learn admist the many other things I should learn also.

What steps do you suggest I take as a total beginner in game designing and programming in order to bring my idea of a game to reality?
Thank you.
CareerTell Us About The Life Of An Architect by Plaouse(op):
.What are your observations and experiences in this field

.Has architectural practice been a blessing or a misstep for you

. What is your advice to architects or those to be

. Is success usual for architects?

And generally, what are your thoughts on the life of an architect?

Well, I'm a student and I am made to believe that architecture is a field for the creative and the creative alone. Studying architecture nd being an architect I believe requires passion and perceverance, and absolutely not much of a field to relax.

I' ve heard and read a lot of opinions concerning this profession; some good and most - pretty discouraging. But passion is what impels me to become an architect myself (i really can't imagine myself being someone else though).

However, before I dash into architecture school I' ll love to hear every opinion given by the seasoned architects and those in related fields, not only for my benefit but also that of the public.

Thanks as I anticipate your comments smiley .

Why do you have to compromise your dreams and goals just for temporal setbacks that are not beyond what you can control?

Your '2 years-off' might not count If you're ready to be focused and 'seriously serious' to start afresh while studying hard to sit for another WAEC exam. Prepare and sit for the WAEC with great commitments and chase your dream, only if you will be able to summount that money problem.

Increase your view towards seeing possibilities in all things... you can!
Thank you Sir. I' ll heed your advice.
EducationAn 0 level Student Is Confused. Help! by Plaouse(op): 10:31am On Jun 03, 2020
I write from a juncture of my life in confusion. Please I need every advise I can get, for I'm callow & willing to channel my energy on a straight path so as to avoid walking in circles.
I've always thought of studying architecture in a developed country for my undergrad degree to better my chances in life.
In 2018 I wrote WEAC & NECO. Maths of WEAC states 'CANCELED' on my result due to exam malpractice in my school (which I'm somewhat guilty of); leaving me with Neco. I am willing to rewrite, but paucity of money has withheld me. & what if i succeed, I may not pass with an excellent result after two years hiatus off school - for an excellent result is needed for a good scholarship.
Recently, I discovered that Italy accepts Neco (Great!), but I'm worried; I only just began to learn Italiano - I might falter academically if I choose this route (Italiano is compulsory over there for undergrad degree).
What do I do? Being in-between Nigeria & abroad will get me no where but I hugely want to study abroad.

Please do you know any university in Italy that offers architecture (for bachelors) in English language?

When you have the requirements try the UK, check commonwealth scholarship and schools in partnership with them,

Check their requirements so as to help you during the period of preparation.

Applying for scholarship is free so give it a go.
Thank you. But will i be able to transfer if i become a student in a Nigerian University? Seeking a scholarship isn't much of a problem - whats the possibility of getting one (I dont have a straight A result nor a great CGPA its more like Bs)
Like hosey advised, is it better to seek these scholarships at undergraduate or postgraduate level?
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 4 by Plaouse(m): 11:31pm On May 17, 2020
hosey:
To be candid, forget about obtaining undergraduate scholarship in UK as it is very competitive. Also A Levels is being considered for admission ? Do you have Cambridge or ATS A Levels? Your O level and A level should be mostly A's.
*I only have WEAC; 2 As, 5 Bs, 1 C and D. I can write another exam if required and if the funds are available*

If you want undergraduate scholarship, focus on USA schools and apply here:
https://ng.usembassy.gov/education-culture/exchange-programs/opportunity-fund/

You can also try Federal Scholarship board undergraduate scholarship or Chiese undergraduate scholarship.

Most importantly, just focus on getting Nigerian university admission. Try and score high in your JAMB as I hope your O level is top notch. Aim for first class. Then you can get postgraduate scholarship. Also with your first class CGPA in school, you can apply for many undergraduate scholarships like PTDF, Oando, Mobil, Shell, MTN, Total, Seplat, Chevron, Agbami, Agip and many more.
*My JAMB this year is good and getting an admission in Nigeria wouldn't be a problem. I just thought that studying aboard will create more opportunities for me. I opted for the UK because it is more easier for Nigerians to get admission there, just got informed about their scholarship though. Thanks*

I got two undergraduate scholarships and it was more than enough for my studies. * were they for Nigeria or abroad? And please how likely am I to get a scholarship in the US.*
