Career / Re: This Happened In My New Work Place. Please advice by Platodeen87: 9:40am On Jan 14
SharingIsLife:
Endure it and do your work excellently for 2 months. Work in such a way that you become an INDISPENSABLE member of staff (after all, you're used to low salary).

As you do this, you will be a total surprise to the secretary and anyone else expecting you to be demoralized at work because of your low pay. This is good for workplace politics because people can't really understand you. But this is not the main aim of doing your work so well as I have advised.

This is the main aim: After 2 months, go to the management and ask for a pay raise. If they delay in doing this, submit your resignation letter. And if they ask you why you are leaving, you tell them that you need a pay raise and that you found another job offering you that.

Don't have any atom of fear while doing this as long as you know you have become indispensable to them.

You need to get a pay raise as soon as possible not just because of you yourself but because of other workers. Because the company may decide to reduce other people's pay thinking that they are paying too highly in comparison to other companies.

It is not always easy again especially with this idea...it could result to mental health issue and the list is endless
Politics / Re: Betta Edu Should Resign For ‘Betraying Nigerians’ Confidence’ — Falana by Platodeen87: 2:28am On Jan 09
The so called 'vulnerable people' might have been misbehaving recently, and may not want to remit the money back to their masters, after being transferred to their various accounts. Therefore, the strategy embarked upon by the 'Master' is to directly transfered the fund into her account, in handy.

They are job seekers like u n i.

What the do is that they copy the job advert and create a personal e-mail (eg gmail) that has the character carrying the name of the company and ask that you send your CV into the box.

It is a cheap and fraudulent way to possess different categories of CV to apply for jobs.

I have the contact of one, at the moment, and could share t i am so permitted
Family / Re: Help Me With Budgeting.... My 400k Salary No Longer Takes Me Home. by Platodeen87: 9:08pm On Jun 01, 2023
As for me i have a principle which i have been abiding by;

1. At every point in time, my yearly rent should not be more than half of my salary, at most 100% of a month's salary.

2. Even though i earn a little below what u earn, i never consider myself as one who should own a car for that amount of salary. Until i start earning salary where maintenance of my car is significantly insignificant to my income.

3. Since i stay alone (no GF, wife n children), living in a flat is extra spending cos no one makes use of the rooms n i would probably sleep in a room at the end of each day. Therefore, i had only considered a single room self.

4. I prioritise my power needs eg fan, tv, bulbs. Therefore, i have been invested in solar energy on a one-time payment...no maintenance, no fueling cost, no noise, no gas emissions, n it is reliable.

5. For health, contact your employer for adequate HMO.

I see the next government running a system of authoritarian even when in 'agbada'.

I see a total military system of ruling but where the military personnels are 'agberos'.

People would definitely be refrained from airing their views and opinions due to fear of attack from armed robbers who are supposed 'agberos'.

I see a system of ruling that is quite similar to Abacha regime, even while in 'agbada'

... so we complain about rigging, killings, brutality, etc during elections.

Tell me: is this not worth several reasons to distribute guns to individuals to kill fellow human beings during elections ?

Nigerian men would always like rich, educated ladies. However, men are always afraid of the intolerance that characterises the orientation and decisions of rich and educated women.

Career / Re: Jumia Sacks 900 Workers To Reduce Cost Of Operation by Platodeen87: 4:52am On Feb 21, 2023
errandsdotng:
Jumia, a pan-African e-commerce platform, says it laid off over 900 workers in order to reduce its cost of operation.

The company, in its 2022 fourth quarter (Q4) financial report released recently, said the cut represents 20 percent of its general workforce.

Jumia said it experienced an operating loss of 41 percent year-over-year, reaching $49.8 million in Q4 of 2022; forcing the company to suspend its “logistics-as-a-service offering in a number of geographies”.

The e-commerce firm also discontinued its food delivery operations in Egypt, Ghana and Senegal where “this activity was
sub-scale, resulting in unit economics dilution with limited consumer lifetime value upside”.

Jumia explained that it decided to cease a number of activities as part of its goal of focusing on core areas of the business with attractive returns on investments and clear ecosystem benefits.

The organisation added that it is delivering on its strategy to reduce losses and accelerate progress toward profitability with a major focus on enhanced cost discipline as well as accelerating monetisation.

“Cost reduction is another key priority of our strategy. We are working across the full cost structure to drive efficiencies,” the report reads.

“In the fourth quarter of 2022, we undertook significant headcount reductions, resulting in over 900 position terminations, corresponding to a 20 percent headcount reduction.

“We have streamlined our organisational structure, creating leaner, more effective teams fully committed to the execution of our strategy.

“As part of our streamlining efforts, we have significantly reduced our presence in Dubai where certain management functions were located, reducing headcount by over 60 percent. Most of the remaining staff are being relocated to our African offices, closer to our consumers, sellers, and operations.

“We expect these headcount reductions to allow us to save over 30 percent in monthly staff costs starting from March 2023, as compared to the October 2022 staff cost baseline. The implementation of these organisational changes resulted in $3.7 million in one-off restructuring costs booked in the fourth quarter of 2022.”

The company also announced gross profit growth of up to 22 percent year-over-year, stating that marketplace revenue reached an all-time high of $41.2 million.

Commenting on the development, Francis Dufay, chief executive officer (CEO), Jumia, said efforts are being made to further strengthen their fundamentals and accelerate profits.

“While the fourth quarter results only reflect a fraction of the actions we are taking, we are seeing early signs of success and remain focused on execution,” Dufay said.

“In light of these encouraging signs, we expect a sharp reduction in adjusted EBITDA loss from $207 million in FY2022 down to $100-120 million in FY2023.

“We remain more-than-ever confident about the growth opportunity across our markets and are making fundamental improvements to our consumer value proposition which will help us drive sustainable long-term growth.”

The problem hovers around

1. Failed routine risk and business impact analyses over the time.

2. Failed operation and business analyses to determine procedures to control evaluation.

3. Failed continuous business strategy and control re-evaluation from time to time.

4. Deprivation of the Internal Audit And Control Department its full responsibilities by the management.

In other words, the initial primary source of the reasons to the staff lay-off could be traced to the above listed, as sn interplay between the Internal Audit and the Management.

It is rather unfortunate that it is the staffs that bear the brunts

My little piece.

Take offer A...and resign as soon as u get the offer letter from B.

It is fair! After all, A indicates that appointment could be terminated '...at will...'. Therefore, u could as well exercise ur '...at will...' as soon as u get the offer letter from B.
