With this notice of appeal, the appeal court will have to halt the ongoing hearing of the case until the supreme court decides on Poroye and Jimoh Ibrahim's appeal. If the Mimiko/Jegede camp succeeds at the supreme court, appeal court will resume hearing on the substantive matter and rule on it. If you ask me, that's really a long way to go considering that the election is 11 days away. The main purpose of this appeal is to delay the eventual judgement of the appeal court on the matter and as it is, this is a victory for Jimoh Ibrahim and Ali Modu Sheriff.

There was a mild drama at the government house yesterday between the governor, Adams Oshiomhole, and the deputy governor, Dr. Pius Odubu.

The Deputy Governor lambasted the governor for lobbying the federal government to shift the date of the election to coincide with the period when Edo people would be coronating a new Oba.

A government house source told Urhokpota Reporters that the outburst of the deputy governor, who is an avowed defender of the Benin culture, created a scene at the government house that could have led to a physical fight but for the intervention of the security agencies.

Our source quoted Odubu as saying;

“I am warning you (to Oshiomhole) not to cause more trouble for this party as you’ve done already”.

This statement is an indication that Odubu was still furious about the role played by the governor in the party’s primary that saw to his humiliation.

In swift responce, the governor was said to have directed his security men to take Odubu away from him as his sight  was irritating.

Oshiomhole, who our source said was visibly angry, blamed the likes  of the deputy governor for the set back the party is facing currently.

The event took a different twist when the governor’s security men attempted to carry out the order and were vehemently resisted by the APC state caucus leaders who accompanied Dr. Odubu to meet with the governor.

Chief Osaro Idah, the Edo State APC Secretary and former head of Bendel Brewery who ran the company aground, supported the deputy governor saying that Oshiomhole should have consulted with the party leaders before employing the help of his northern state governors to perfect the unpopular shift in date.

Idah said the action of the governor will create problem for the party with the Benin people because the new date will clash with the coronation programme of the Oba.

Responding, a visibly angry Oshiomhole, warned all those who are mixing tradition with politics to choose between the two, as he (Oshiomhole) is in the moment concerned about how to deliver his candidate (Obaseki) who is at the moment now facing serious challenge. He said that was more imoorts

with all the opinion polls showing a ugly direction about him.

THERE is commotion at Kuje Prisons, Abuja, where officials are currently shooting tear gas at inmates.

Vanguard gathered that t‎he shooting was a fallout of the last jail break in which some top officials were reprimanded.

Our source said:”There is a lock down in the prison, ‎prisons officials are throwing tear-gas at the inmates to cow them because of the last jail break.”

Some of the inmates complained that they were dying, as they spoke to Vanguard: “We do not know what they want to do with us, some people are on the ground now rolling and crying.”

“There is no jail break, yet they woke up this morning to start shooting tear gas at us,” they added.

United Airlines informed employees on Wednesday that it would end flights from the U.S. to Nigeria on June 30 because of a lack of demand and difficulty in collecting payments.IAG Chief Executive Officer Willie Walsh said last month that Iberia would stop serving Lagos after the low price of oil caused Nigeria’s economy to contract for the first time since 2004 in the first quarter. Limits on dollar repatriation have been imposed by the Nigerian Central Bank as reserves slip to $26.5 billion, the lowest in more than a decade, from more than $30 billion in early 2015.
“Exiting Nigeria is a very big decision” and “not taken lightly” following London-based British Airways’ 80 years of operations in the country, Olayinka said. “I believe very strongly that we will keep evaluating the situation, but I can assure you, BA is very committed to Nigeria.”
The government is assessing the situation while Central Bank governor Godwin Emefiele has suggested a flexible exchange rate regime that would end the naira’s peg to the U.S. dollar, Olayinka said. IAG is awaiting details of the policy “so that we can start the process of rebuilding,” he said.
