By jobs, did you mean part-time student jobs or full-time post study jobs? For the first, I reckon that you will likely get them as a student, as there are lots of student jobs in the UK( though I speak of Glasgow, but I also believe that same is applicable to Edinburgh, being the capital city). For full time jobs, I can't say for sure. Not that they are impossible to get, but they will require great acumen, determination and some luck to get.

To the second point about your chance of staying in Scotland after your MSC. The UK immigration rules apply to Scotland as well, so no differentials. I think whether you can stay back will depend on whether you can get a post study job after graduation. One other route is to apply for a PhD, so that after your masters, you could transition to doing a PhD. Hope this helps.

Best of luck!
I mean partime student job for me and fulltime job for my wife as dependant. Also, will my children be able to continue there schooling as dependants in Edinburgh and how much will that cost me per term?

Hello everyone.

I must thank Justwise and co for managing this thread.

I am studying in Glasgow and would be happy to take and answer any questions about life in Glasgow for those wanting to come here to study. All answers will be given here, so that others can follow and learn.

Cheers.
although I am not coming to Glasgow but HWU in Edinburgh, I will like to know how long it might take to get a work to support my living there and what is the chance of staying in Scotland after my MSc coming with 3 dependants (my family).

Yeah but 400 *5 years for IHS plus include dependants fees.
It piles up.

Personally I don't think the endorsement is difficult to get, all the endorsement organisations have there requirements posted. And someone from naija can easily work towards getting one if they plan 12-24 months ahead.

My experience with certain endorsement bodies is that they actually not strict on the criteria. I think it's because they want to show that they use up there alloted slots.

There are 2000 slots available yearly for the T1ET and it's divided equally between endorsement bodies as well as halves for the first and second part of the year (1k jan-jun.....) And more slots are only awarded if an organisation finishes the one previously given.

thanks to all for your brotherly advice, can you please explain this endorsement stuff? I am a complete novice.

Guy, it's very tough as a single student, and it will be tougher as a student with a family. Who will take care of your kids in the UK when you are studying and your wife is working? If your wife is prepared to be a fulltime housewife at the expense of her own career, it will be impossible to sustain the family whilst working only 20 hours per week as a student. It's best you come alone for your course. You can always go back to Nigeria to visit your family whilst on your course, or you can get them to visit you. If you finish your course and you get a work visa, you can then bring in your family as dependants.

Think am oh!

Thanks boss...

N2,000,000 naira = £4,450 or so.

Yes, your wife can get a job, (earning probably £10 per hour). Working night shifts (because someone has to be home with the young ones).

If your visa is valid for 12 (+4 or +6) months. What happens after that? You move with your entire family of 5 back to Nigeria?
thanks for this question boss. Can I have an opportunity to apply PGDE for my wife when my MSC is almost done, where I will also switch to dependent with children to extend our stay or is there any means to become a permanent resident at the long run?

Will you be on a fully-paid Scholarship? Covering your tuition and living expenses?

I am sponsoring my self....I can afford to pay my tuition before I leave naija and safe up to 2M to cater for some expenses till I get work to support myself. As for the maintenance fee that is needed to stay in account for 28 days, a friend is willing to help with that. Is there any other thing I need to put in place?

Wow!
Do you really want to do this?
Dislodge a family of 5 ( including yourself) from Nigeria for an MSc in Scotland?
A 1 year MSc? Or maximum 24 calendar months?
Have you carefully thought this through?

Back to your original issue:
Yes. You can apply for all at the same time. Or you can stagger the applications i.e you go first, settle down a bit then apply for them to join you.

thanks for your Advice sir, do you think it will be hard to cope with financing the family if my wife works as dependant and I also support with my 15 hours work permit. I really wish I can move with them.....all necessary advice and enlightenment are welcome.

You can apply for visa at the same time for everyone but for your dependants you can put a later date as their date of entry, ...I'm not sure of the number of months allowed between such arrivals but I know different dates of entry can be put for dependants
if this is possible, I will be glad.....

I stand to be corrected but your tier 4 visa ll come with a proviso that you enter the uk within 1 month of issuance . You can extend it but it ll involve some letter writing.

Why not do yours first and apply for theirs later?

this is probably none of my business and I m sure you have considered the hell out of your decision but my living expenses as as a single, bus riding, doesnt eat a lot and non partying immigrant is 1k minimum.

Have you got a plan for your monthly expenses smiley

You mean I have to write a letter to extend theirs if I leave them behind?

Living expenses? I can't leave my family behind while I study abroad. But I hope we can both be able to work to support our living there in Scotland.

Greetings to everyone, I have been following this thread and gained a lot from the experience of fellow nairalanders. I am planning to secure a tier 4 student Visa for the next year september 2020 admission and planning to move with my 4 dependants (3 sons of 3,7,10 years and my wife) but I don't want to travel at the same time with them them to sort accommodation and other stuff before they finally join after 2 months

My question: can I apply for their Visa at the same time with mine and if yes, can the Visa still be active 3 months after it's issued?

Thanks.

Let her go and volunteer at any care home in Nigeria as care assistant or to get Teaching experience for private Home tutorials.
she has a degree in teacher's Education/chemistry and also attended a training on nursing for 2 years in one of the hospital here. What's her chances of getting something done with all these in Scotland.

Hello All!

New migrant alert here. This thread has been great, thanks a lot to all who have contributed.

Pls my perspective is slightly different. I'm a Tier5 dependent (Wife) and we all moved with our 3 children. It has honestly been unbelievably expensive and we still have not settled in a house we like.. have been doing short stay which is very expensive.

Anyhoo, we are North and even though I honestly won't be able to work for at least a year or two coz I have small children, I want to invest the time wisely doing courses etc that will allow me be immediately relevant when I'm ready. So for those with knowledge pls help your sister... which areas are perpetually hot in the U.K. especially the Scotland area. Pls note that - I have over 10 years experience in Entrepreneurial endeavors/Business management. - No passion for IT or Medical fields plus Hubby na d medic. - For now considering Social work or Project Mgt or Event Mgt (Events coz I have a passion there) but I don't know if it pays this side.

I honestly have never not contributed to the household purse and I dey pity Oga as I'm seeing how the money is vanishing.. won't even mind ideas on what I can do online at home from now to earn in the U.K. Pls oh my peeps give me ideas based on your wealth of knowledge. Many thanks.

Cc: @Aphrodite007 @fatima04 and all the other greats on the thread. Pls don't waka pass. Thank you.
