The twenty-three PDP members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have promised their continued commitment and support to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and governor Ayodele Fayose.

The members who were led by the speaker of the house, pastor Kola Oluwawole on a solidarity visit to the governor on Friday in Ado Ekiti announced this while addressing newsmen.

Speaking on behalf of the assembly members, Dr. Samuel Omotoso who represents Oye Constituency 1, said they were at the government house to intimate the governor that they remain solidly behind him and the party against all odds.

He maintained that the courtesy call was also to register their displeasure over the perceived irregularities that characterized the recently conducted governorship election in the state and to condemned the purported plan to influence the members to impeach governor Fayose.

Dr. Omotosho pointed out that the members were not in any way at war with the incoming administration in the state but that they would refuse every attempt to use them against the sitting governor.

Nigeria is blessed with abundant resources and mental capabilities. Nigeria has 36 states with the Federal Capital Territory, making it 37. Out of these 37 states, one can hardly boast of 10 states which have good road networks. There are some states you have to ask if there exist any governmental presence around this area despite the allocations and all sorts, some roads are death traps that you won't wish your enemies pass through. While some may argue that the IGR of some states is very low unlike some states with mega IGR, we have seen some states who have surpassed this excuses and have done excellently well.

The list is compiled without any political undertone, favors or whatsoever, the list is compiled based on research, fact-finding and based on the recommendation of people living in these states. While it is difficult to see governors without one form of weakness in one way or the other, these ones have stood out and are worthy of mention.

5. Gov Willie Obiano (Anambra)

Gov Willie can best be described as a lone ranger. He is the only governor in his party (APGA). Obiano can best be described as a silent achiever and he has held up the helms of the government so well. According to reports, Obiano constructed three flyovers with seven bridges without borrowing and doesn't wait for FG before he pays workers salary. Anambra state can best be described as a state with low IGR as 50-60% of its populace are mostly traders who specialized in buying and selling of goods but despite this, the state government has to perform beyond expectations in the area of roads and infrastructure at least within his ability. AutoReportNG still believes there needs more to be done in this regards but in all, he deserves some accolades.

4. Gov Rauf Aregbesola (Osun)

Osun state is located in South West and it is a land that's close to the Yorubas. They believe its a state where the Yoruba race emanates from. Osun state is one of the historic tourism states in Nigeria and that's why the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre. Despite having this recognition from an international body, it is expedient that the roads leading to these locations are in good shape motorable and that's where the state comes in. Gov Aregbesola been a civil engineer himself as done well in the area of road constructions across the state, from bridges to layaways to flyover, Aregbesola definitely knows his onions. Places like Oshogbo which is that state capital to Ede and to other remote parts of the states have been touched. Why some may feel he has not done enough of which we respect their opinions and see to that, but he is still better to compare to other states.

3. Gov Nyesom Wike (Rivers)

Gov Wike is popularly called Mr. Project so as to know he means business. Wike is a man who you love to hate. While many have criticized his style of government but he seems not back-down in his bid to develop the state. He made it a point of duty to commission at least 2 roads in a month, that's for a man that is not relenting. In April, he commissioned 34 projects in a day. Why many may disagree that not much is been done in this regards, we felt he deserved a spot in this compilation. It is worthy of note that Rivers is among the top states in terms of IGR for the state so the state is capable to build and construct roads without looking up to FG.

2. Gov Ganduje (Kano)

Kano state is being termed the Commerce capital of Nigeria. With a population of 15 million Nigerians, the state has a lot to do in terms of infrastructure and road constructions and the man at the helms of affairs has been holding it down. A visit to Kano will show you lots of on-going roadworks across the state, from the monorail to the flyovers and then to some major roads, the governor has tried within his best to see to it that the state is motorable and it remains investors hub.

1. Gov Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos)

Gov Akinwunmi Ambode came into power in May 29th, 2015 and he has introduced quite a lot of modern roads to the state. The state is currently undergoing a massive revolution in terms of road networks, from Oshodi to Airport Rd to Lagos-Abeokuta Rd, Ikorodu and the list is endless, Ambode is trying to see Lagos retained its mega city status. Not only is the governor all about roads, he has made sure that the Lagos State Waterways System are working even though people have their reservation boarding ferries but we can say that the LASG is trying his best in this sector and also more stations are under construction. Gov Ambode is also seeing to it that the Lagos Light Rail is completed on time, the light way was started by the former governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola and so far, the rail is in its 75% completion rate.

The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara state, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, said on Thursday, July 26, that he cannot work with the All Progressives Congress (APC) defectors led by Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The Nation reports that he said other members of the party executive committee in Kwara cannot work with the defectors too.

Saraki and the state Governor, AbdulFattah Ahmed, are expected to announce their own defection soon.

Oyedepo, who spoke on the development during a radio programme in Ilorin, said the national leadership of the PDP has set up a committee to interface between his group and the defectors.

He said the first meeting is slated for next week.

The PDP chairman, who said he had just returned from a meeting with PDP leaders in Abuja, blamed the party’s national leadership for being allegedly insensitive to the political configuration in Kwara state and allowed themselves to be swayed by funding capacity of the defectors.

According to him, the option before the leaders is to choose between his group and the one led by Saraki.

He said: “We have not been opportune to sit down with the Senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the state governor, Alhaji AbdulFattah Ahmed, even though I’m hearing several rumours that I have met with them and that they have offered me juicy positions. "These are all lies, the Senate president despite his humongous wealth, does not have what it takes to buy me. He cannot ever buy me because he cannot buy my integrity. If my bank account is not fat, my integrity account is very fat.

“So they have not met with us but our national body said they have set up a committee to meet with the two sides next week and when that meeting comes up we are going to tell the national leaders that we cannot accept the formula they have put down which is 60:40, 60 percent for a state defecting with the governor and 40 percent for the existing PDP members. "And if they said what of 50:50, or 40:60 or 30:70 or even 10:90, we shall not accept;

we cannot accept any offer. Anything less than our not working together we cannot accept. “So we will tell our national body to choose between us and them and I know that they will not choose us because we don’t have money but we are not worried. We will only know that an end has come to our journey and our relationship (in the PDP).

“If we agree to work with them (Saraki) just imagine myself and (Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed) Maigida standing on the same rostrum pledging to do things for the people. It will be a shame; many people will look at me and wonder what has happened. "So it is better not to be in politics again. Instead of a dog being the treasurer for the lion it is better for both to part ways and go on their separate hunting game.

“The blame is not from the Saraki camp, the blame is from our national leaders in the PDP. Leadership in Nigeria is the conspiracy of the elite to punish the downtrodden.

Goodluck Jonathan, former Nigerian president, and Diezani Alison-Madueke, immediate past petroleum minister, were allegedly given bribes in the $1.3 billion deal involving ENI and Royal Dutch Shell.

Jonathan, Alison-Madueke, and other government officials benefitted from a sum of $466m which was converted into naira, Italian prosecutors say.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a report by AFP claims that Jonathan and Diezani were prominent figures in the deal, which saw ENI and Shell make a $1.3 billion payment in 2011 for an offshore oil block in Nigeria.

Court documents filed December 2016 in Milan outline a case against 11 people, including senior executives from Eni and Shell as well as the companies themselves.

Claudio Descalzi, ENI chief executive and his predecessor Paolo Scaroni, were said to have met with Jonathan to thrash out the deal “in person”.

The prosecutors allege that ENI and Shell executives worked with Dan Etete, the oil minister during the military administration of Sani Abacha.

According to the court documents, Etete’s company, Malabu Oil & Gas, was the “fraudulent holder” of the OPL 245 block.

The block was illegally acquired by the oil companies in contravention of domestic laws, “without competitive tendering” and with “full, unconditional exemption from all national taxes”, prosecutors said.

$801.5 million was allegedly transferred to Etete’s Malabu accounts while $54 million was said to have been withdrawn by Abubakar Aliyu, who was described as an “agent” of Jonathan.

The prosecutors added that beneficiaries of the money went on a shopping spree buying “property, aeroplanes, armoured cars”.

Both multinational oil companies have denied any wrongdoing.

“We are aware of the investigation and we hope to show the prosecutor that there is no basis to prosecute Shell. Shell takes this matter seriously and is co-operating with the authorities,” Shell said in an email to AFP.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was reported to have recently pressed charges in connection with the same oil block deal.

Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesman, was quoted to have told AFP that charges were “filed towards the end of last year”.

Alison-Madueke was only last week compelled by a federal high court in Lagos to temporary forfeit $153 million that was allegedly stolen from state coffers.

In 2015, she was arrested by Britain’s National Crime Agency on suspicion of bribery and money laundering.

CBN sustains forex intervention, injects $210m

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday injected the sum of $210m into the interbank foreign exchange market.

According to a statement, the CBN offered $100m to authorised dealers in the wholesale segment of the market, while the Small and Medium Enterprises segment got the sum of $55m.

It said $55m was also allocated for invisibles such as tuition fees, medical payments and basic travel allowance.

The Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department, CBN, Mr Isaac Okorafor, restated the apex bank’s resolve to continue to intervene in the interbank forex market, in line with its pledge to sustain liquidity in the market and maintain stability.

Okorafor maintained that the continued forex intervention was to ensure that the CBN met the requests of genuine customers in various segments of the market.

Meanwhile, the naira stood at an average of N360/$1 in the Bureau De Change segment of the market on Tuesday.

Another PDP source buttressed further why they cannot work with Ortom in the party ,adding that the non payment of salaries by the present administration will affect the party’s chances of clinching the governorship in 2019 as majority of workers and pensioners will work against them.

The immediate past Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Timi Frank, has said that the promises of oil well and automatic tickets to some leaders of rAPC by the presidency won't stop their planned defection in matter of days.

In a statement to PoliticsNGR on Sunday, Frank, who is also a prominent member of rAPC expressed surprised that "the leadership of APC and the presidency could result to begging and making promises of juicy positions, automatic tickets, including oil well to some of our leaders."

He, however, declared that about five governors, 30 serving Senators and 135 House of Representatives members will all dump APC in a matter of days, assuring that there is no going back in their plan to stand by Nigerians who have asked them to leave.

He added that the move to retain the support of rAPC members and leaders by the presidency was coming too late, wondering what has changed if the party could not fulfil it promises in the last three years.

"In a matter of days Nigerians will have cause to celebrate our final exit from party of killings, poverty and propaganda to join hands with real progressive group in the country."
According to Frank, all the latest moves by President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of APC to persuade the leaders of rAPC are all efforts in futility.

"The same people that could not respect the agreement we had in the last three years are now begging, promising heaven and earth to our leaders. In deception, they have failed to realise that Nigerians now know their true colour. They are much talked about integrity is a delusion, they are wolfs in sheep's clothing.

"Our plan to reject them and their party is not for personal gain. It is primarily to team up with real progressive group to rescue the country from the current handlers who rejoice when Nigerians are killed in their number, who value lives of cows to Nigerians and religiously persecute opposition members in the name of fighting corruption.

"In 2019 general elections, Nigerians have come to know that a vote for the APC will mean a vote for hardship, oppression, insecurity and unemployment. We are teaming up to ensure an end to visionless leadership of the current APC government and because our leaders in rAPC are men and women of honour, there is no going back in our plan to join forces in rescue Nigeria from incompetent APC leadership."

While calling on the leaders of rAPC not to give in to presure, the Bayelsa born politician warned that supporting re-election bid of President Buhari is as good as giving consent to be arbitrarily jailed in nearest future.

In this statement on the Ekiti State election of July 14, the Nigerian Human Rights Community (NHRC) says vote-buying has no impact on the outcome. The statement was signed by Dr. Taiwo Adeleye and Comrade Sola Ajayi, among others. We have read so many reports, many of them accurate but there have also been inaccurate reports released to score cheap political gains. We monitored the election. Many of us here were in Ekiti as monitors. We were in Ekiti two weeks before the election, gathering information and monitoring pre-election activities. It was easy for many of us to predict the outcome of the election even before INEC released the results on Sunday morning. We have gathered here to set the records straight and to present the issues the way they are in the most factual manner. We wish to make the following observations:


VOTER TURNOUT The turn out during the election is impressive. Ekiti has 842,731 registered voters. This number shortly before the election increased to about 900,000. This is quite commendable considering the total population of the entire state which is 2.7million people. Out of the figures, 667,064 PVCs were collected while 246,270 PCVs were not collected. There are 177 wards in 131 towns and villages located in 16 local governments. The number of voters represent about 65 percent of the voting age which is one of the highest in the country.


SECURITY That the security operatives performed above average. There were no incidences of police harassment, intimidation or human rights violations, prior or throughout the one day exercise. Even though 30,000 security operatives were posted to Ekiti state, their conducts and performances represent a remarkable improvement compared with 2014 when soldiers invaded Ekiti State, arrested the members of the All Progressives Party, (APC) and ensured many of them were not released until after the election. In comparative sense, there is tremendous improvement in security. We should not be quick to forget that in 2014, militants in military uniforms invaded Ekiti State under the guise of security operatives shooting indiscriminately across the state. We should not forget that the current governor elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi, in 2014, was shot at. The bullets hit an APC member who died on the spot. But this year, no single person was killed in Ekiti State. This is quite commendable.

INEC We wish to commend the conducts of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) for the exceptional ways they conducted the election. We observe the arrival of voting materials on time. The idea of allowing voters to be accredited and vote at the same time was remarkable. There were few cases of malfunctioning machines, but these were not significant.


MEDIA We commend the coverage of the election by the print and electronic media. There was a conscious attempt by the media to report in an objective and balanced manner. Though it was a local election, the presence of mainstream media from across the country was commendable. The aspirants largely had access to the mainstream media. The media also in many respects avoided sensationalism. However, we frown at the resort to manipulation of the state owned media by the government of Mr AyodeleFayose. It is an act of brazen violation of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the Nigerian Press Council (NPC) for the Broadcasting Corporation of Ekiti State (BSES) to be used to broadcast election results when INEC was yet to release the results to members of the public.

CONDUCT OF ELECTION There were instances of malfunctioning of the card reader. For instance at Ikere, the machine did not function when the PDP gubernatorial candidate wanted to vote. It took the intervention of INEC official, a woman at the polling booth who gave preferential treatment to Prof. Olusola Eleka, before he could vote. To a large extent, the election was free and fair. It reflected the free will of the people of Ekiti State. To this end, Dr Kayode Fayemi won the election convincingly. It is trite and a clear resort to blackmail to lay claim that the election was rigged in favour of any particular candidate.

CORRUPTION AND VOTE-BUYING We wish to put this in historical context. Some of us who participated in the various elections, since 1999 till date, observe a new culture of bribery and corruption in the electoral system. But this is not new. It is wrong to now uphold this development as being largely responsible for the outcome of the July 14 election. The reality is that it did not start today. It has been part of the problems confronting Nigeria since independence. For instance political parties are found of buying food essentials for traditional rulers and community leaders ahead of election. This has been standard practice which is quite unfortunate. However, in 1999, there were no significant cases of bribe-for-vote across the country compared to what we have today. In Ekiti, workers were paid 3000 naira on the eve of the election as bribe so that they could vote for the state government favoured candidate. This is a well-known fact. The state government also paid 7,000 naira each to pensioners on the eve of the July 14 election. The cash paid was not listed as part of their legal entitlement but as inducement to ensure they voted for the PDP. There can be no clearer evidence of election malpractices than this. Under the Ekiti State administration, manipulation of elections through cash inducement is a directive through the framework of STOMACH INFRASTRUCTURE. We state here that Fayemi won the July 14 election convincingly. It is share blackmail to continue to lay claim that the election was manipulated.


The state government, apart from paying cash to workers and pensioners, was using the state controlled public radio and television to canvass for votes against the principles of equal access and corporate responsibility. Our monitors also discovered the setting up of phantom election monitors by the state government. These monitors were given fake identities and protected by some security officials at the prompting of the state government. This fraudulent group has been making false claims that the election was rigged in favour of Fayemi while, in actual fact, they worked as proxy for the state government.

RECOMMENDATIONS The NHRC wishes to recommend the following: Political parties should adopt direct primaries. This will enable mass participation of party members in the selection of candidates for the various elective positions. That to eliminate corruption in the electoral system, ballot boxes should be kept far away from voters so that the decision of each voter will be known only to the voter. That Federal Government should demonstrate political will to implement the recommendations of the Justice Uwais Panel which recommended Electoral Tribunals for election offenders. Ekiti needs more polling booths. In many instances voters had to be transported for over 4 kilometers before they could vote.
