This is a problem. If the road was a two way... and now made a One-Way ... how should motorists know if no signs are posted? The driver shouldn't even be charged... and even if charged... it should be dismissed in court.

Your right bro.

There is a sigh there. But the ONE WAY sign was not installed where motorists would see it immidiately entering the way.

You would only see the sign when you have reached the extreme end in the round about. By that time. Task force would have apprehended the motorist .

That’s how it usually happen

If I follow your logic, cant he get another car to Drive too and that in turn wouldn't be Illegal or would it?

You may decide to go down that rabbit hole, but I'll not spend my time replying
yes he can get another car to drive but the pain of losing a 20 million naira vehicle to auction will burn him forever. its the mental pain of it. it sends some people to early grave. 20 million naira is not beans. and that guy had a nice looking SUV. easily 20 million naira just gone like that

I hate this new one way law ehn. Did you know that you can enter a lot of road when you see people entering and the you are bombed that it is one way. Some might be as a result of the position you enter the road. Some of these roads don't have a sign to warn you off. My car have been arrested like 4times for this one way thing n I am always hurt to the bone but las las you just have to beg. U drop between 30- 10k as settlement and move. The only time I stood my ground and enter their stupid mobile court I regretted my action. They finish my account that day.

I didn't see all this your assumption coming to play here. Cox the guy is irritated by the sight of the officer and wouldn't even allow them get close to his car. All this. You want kill us? Since yesterday. Are normal Nigeria rant to gain pity

Lol, you may be right on the guy's rant being our Naija guys normal level ranting grin , but might also be wrong.
My point was that I would like to know the exact events that led up to the part being recorded, because things may not always be as they are portrayed, especially with Nigerian Police. I don't trust them one bit.

And yes, that one way law is crazy, especially on these Lagos roads that are not well marked, MOST especially on inner street roads that are not clearly marked.
You'll see a street that is one way and the sign is hidden in one corner way off the junction, or the sign is rusted and no longer clear, in fact you'll have to stop and stare for 2 minutes to make it out, and you're expected to see that while driving....when your eyes should be on the road.
Some signs are deliberately obscured by leaves or trees or other things, or even hidden by trucks parked there.
If it's on express or highway, I'm all for it, as long as it's VERY CLEARLY marked that it's one way, at the entrance point.
But on inner streets, there are too many streets that are not clearly marked for it to make sense.
Drive around Lagos island, or parts of mainland like Shomolu, Bariga, Palmgrove and Onipanu, you'll see what I mean.
I avoid driving around those areas if I can.
Sometimes the only sign that it is one way is when people or bike men around there flag you down to warn you it is one way as you're entering the street.
Sometimes I even have to slow down, wind down my window and ask people around if it is one way before entering a street in those areas, even when there are no signs or markings to suggest anything like that. Because those crazy guys will just stop you and take you to one hidden, ancient, rusted sign behind one tree, and show you as the one way sign.
We copy some rules from Oyinboland, without making sure out infrastructure makes sense to implement those rules.
The rule should be abolished on inner city roads, or watered down, until every one way road is clearly and unambiguously marked as one way, that even a blind man can see it.

And there is also the issue of road being blocked sometimes, either by accident, construction or spoilt tankers or something, and then FRSC or police guys deliberately directing people to enter one way at one end, only for you to be apprehended by their colleagues at the other end.
It's all one big scam, as they're acting in synchrony to chop big money from you, and such incidents has been documented here on Nairaland, to the extent that either the Commissioner of Police or the Head of FRSC in Lagos issued a statement about it back then.
So in my opinion, this one way law is too harsh until these issues are tackled.

That’s 4 points area in Oniru . They just reconstructed that road. Now it’s one way if you want to head out to lekki express

2 weeks ago I was apprehended there.

I finished a meeting in tec Expert , in a haste to attend another meeting in lekki . I headed in the one way

Immidiately I noticed it’s one way I tried to reverse and turn but those task force are already chasing my car with their truck , Las las they hold me

Drove me to ilasan Jakande , that lastman office Omo I paid 50K cash before they release my vehicle. After 2 wasted hours
now this is exactly what i was talking about.
those guys could not have driven against traffic on the opposite lane, and still have that much righteous anger. I knew it must be the usual one way street matter.

if it's a one way street, put a one way sign. so that motorists are aware.
you cannot be deemed to have broken law when you did not disobey any traffic sign. it is not the responsibility of a road user to know all the one way streets in the federation.
the ambiguity of this law creates oppurtunities for law men to extort and harrass.
This is the product of a confused government.with thier usual poorly thought out and vaguely defined laws.

If you read through the thread, you'll see my earlier comment where I had clearly stated that I'm NOT holding brief for the guy.
I only stated possible reasons why the policeman exercised that unusual amount of restraint.

I never said it is right to assault a police officer, and I don't endorse that.

You may want to reread my posts on this thread.

Educate yourself.
there is a difference between driving against uncoming traffic on the opposite lane; and taking a one way street ( especially one without a one way sign).
The draconian forfeiture law is intended for the former

ur opinion is be clouded with sentiments.... The law says DO NOT DRIVE AGAINST THE TRAFFIC OR RISK YOUR CAR BEING AUCTIONED. Very simple law to obey... So its serves offenders right... Its not only a punitive measure but also deterrent

Why should his vehicle be forfeited? He admitted in the video, so if he didn’t admit to anything what wud have happened?

The guys are wrong and they harassed an officer with reason or provocation so I can understand the sentencing bt auctioning people’s car is ridiculous and un heard of. Lagos government should stop being sadists. Just a 1st offender? That’s very ridiculous.

That's like entrapment. In cases like this.... it is done on purpose. People need to like call up a TV station.... they're always looking for news.... let them know the area and the problem.... they will broadcast it and seek interview with the authorities. The person in charge will feel pressured to do something because he doesn't know who else above him watched the news and will be waiting to see if he will take action. If he doesn't his job may be in jeopardy and that he wouldn't want happen. The TV media is a veryyyy effective tool because it can put a spotlight on problems for all to see. Should you make a One Way sign... and place it at the beginning of the road where it should be... I can bet my life it will be pulled down ... by RRS .... and they will launch an investigation to find out who was responsible. Let's not go into the chargess that will follow.
