You are talking rubbish. Who is a bloody intern? It’s like you think most people here are illiterates. An intern have no business where’s a minor or major surgery. He’s duty to go for messages, bring spirit, bring syringe. Your job is to stay at the bad and look. It’s the duty of the consultant and registrar to do surgery and give health care. An intern’s job is to observe and ask one or two brilliant questions. So an intern does not have significant use. It’s because consultants in Nigeria are paid for doing nothing. That’s why a bloody intern and junior registrar can open his mouth to talk bullshit. I traveled to Germany and saw their health care, it was the consultants taking the lead, registrars basically looks and ask questions (apprentice). But here in Nigeria, consultants are no where to be found, so registrars start playing god and a bloody student intern opens he’s mouth to talk trash because of the corrupt and rotten system in the Nigeria health care in which consultants are paid to seat at home. Rubbish.

In Ghana, you are required to do about 10 Cesareans before you finish your 2 years of housemanship.

In South Africa--and I have seen English Doctors who worked there, speak so highly of them-- their Junior Doctors are some of the most experienced the world over.
Their junior Registrars can do things some Counsultants in other countries are just learning.

In the UK, 1st year interns are already inserting chest and peritoneal drains.

Or is it the US where post graduate training can be completed in 3 years?

Most, I repeat, Most Nigerian doctors are not doing well abroad. They are mostly General practitioners or emergency doctors (even Nigerian consultant doctors) are emergency doctors in UK, they are not allowed specialty. The Nigerian doctors that are specialist doctors are those that schooled abroad(did their BMMS abroad) and did their residency abroad and are brilliant are the ones doing well not the ones that left Nigeria as doctors. So kindly stop lying and misleading people. Nigerian doctors are liars and propagandists. Even the UK jobs Nigerian doctors dying for. It’s G.P, Emergency department that’s where they work. Mr doctor, as an intern you have no business been called for emergencies especially at odd hours of the day. It is the work of registrars (resident doctors in the hospital). Blame the failed system mostly on the CMD and governing council of the hospitals in Nigeria. Everybody likes to do oga in Nigeria so the small registrars push the work to you the intern because an average Nigeria does not want to work but to collect salary.
Consultants shift their job to senior registrars.
Senior registrars shift their job to junior registrars

People go to specialist for consultation not registrars. What happens is that there is usually 1-2 registrars with the consultant Learning from the specialist. It’s only in Nigeria , people consultant registrars because the consultants have refused to come to work. In the consulting room, it’s usually you and the specialist. You can even politely tell the consultant that you want some privacy that you want the registrar to leaving and the registrar will leave. I have done the twice. No big deal. It’s in the theatre that they are most needed to gain one on one experience and knowledge. Stop the lies and propaganda.

The simple fact is that before doctors become specialists they work . They perform JOBs such as running routine out patient clinics, and manage wards. They are supposed to be under "supervision" which may be daily , weekly or less frequently depending on the nature of the work in question

A house officer in Nigeria is what is referred to as an intern in the U.S. and other countries.

Hospitals in other climes are not mandated to pay interns a fixed amount as it was the case in Nigeria. Hospitals are not obligated to pay interns, they might do this at their owe volition. Intact, in the U.S., interns (house officers) pay to enter the training.

We in Nigeria choose to bastardise everything in our country because we can.

The head of civil service, the Labour minister and the Health minister are all medical doctors, they know better and have risen up to do the right thing.

Lawyers in Nigeria do their own intern program too during Law School, they do not demand to be paid.

Plus in 2009, my first cousins was doing his residency in USA as an emergency doctor, he told us they don’t pay resident doctors in USA but we didn’t believe and I’m not very sure but I will also ask my sister.

Nursing practitioners are basically in the USA where they run their clinics and diagnose and treat. You seen to be the person jealous here because I clearly stated that Nigerian consultants in the UK studio to medicine (MBBS) in the UK. Find out and get your facts right. Nigerian doctors doing GP in UK are mostly the ones who get employed from Nigeria here through work agencies in the Uk. They are mostly or not always given GP and emergency and they sign contracts too. So get your facts right.

And Hell NO, I’m not jealous of anybody. My dad is a medical doctor and two of my sisters are doctors. One in Nigeria the other in USA. I’m an engineer and I’m in the UK. I love engineering and it was my dream to always be an engineer. I justly speak the truth and state obvious facts.

No. The issue is that there's a systemic imbalance in the system and it has not always been so. If a Resident doctor earns more than a full fledge Dentist or Pharmacist, that is just one of the symptoms, the real disease is that the system is unbalanced and doesn't attract talents from other healthcare fields.

Currently, the public health care system is not attracting great talents again and the problem is because of these imbalance that started from the late Prof Olikoye Ransome-Kuti era as minister. I ran into several documents warning the IBB administration then not to transfer the administration of the public health care system to just one professional group but the counsel went unheeded. The system is actually killing itself and the solution is to go back to how it was before Prof Olikoye Ransome-Kuti changed things.Give the administration of public healthcare to a professional chartered group that every health care professional can sit for its exam and get licence to be a chartered healthcare management professional.

As we type here, there are more experienced medical doctors in political offices in and out of hospital than those in core medical duties inside the hospital because of the political offices they corner from ward to LGA to state and Federal Government level. In fact, I know one the FG sent overseas for a highly technical field in cancer and soon as he got back he is now a political office holder attending political meetings and treating files!
We don't have enough doctors yet they are all over the place in political appointment, so who is at the receiving end? The citizens and the country.
