I still don’t get why people find this very simple and reasonable position hard to believe. People just want to find a way to keep living after death so they come up with all these funny ideas of soul/spirit going to heaven, paradise, hades, hell, Abraham’s bosom etc.

Depending on the god you worship your soul will answer to the god it's worshipped while on earth either Jehovah, Allah,vinshu,Olorun, Chukwu, shiva etc

If you read that part of the Bible in Genesis, the Bible said that God created man(Adam) from the dust but there was no LIFE in him when he did, so God BREATHE the BREATH OF LIFE into him and there was LIFE in him.

Adam has simply returned to dust /sand . like Adam, when we leave this world, we become dust again. Forget all those story of being in heaven or elsewhere. We are only awaiting resurrection, for d righteous, on Gods table of time, and not spirit that roves, appears and disappears

In Igbo land, when a person dies and was not properly mourned, they become a nuisance in the spirit realm.
They gallivant in the spirit realm and even cross over to the physical realm at intervals just because they weren't properly bid farewell.
In my place, such spirits even harm their relatives who partake in the proper morning of other people's dead.

But those who were properly mourned just wait in a vast nothingness doing nothing, probably regretting why they took life so seriously and shortchanged themselves as they have then learnt that you truly only live once.

That is why people who have been privileged to have been at the verge of death and came back to life always tell a story of how they let a late relative or friend who either asked them to go back or pleaded with the grim reaper.

Yes you are right, to add to this point, everyone path of judgement has already been chosen by the individuals as they live on earth. So at the instance of death either you join Abraham and others saints in Christ to heaven or you go hell for your punishment till the day of final judgement

The issue of destination after death has been a bolt without the proper nut surrounding Religion. Remember what God said to Adam(Adamu) after He willingly sinned. God pronounce death to him. That very day Adam began to deteriorate in the eyes of his Creator until he was Recycled back to his raw materials(Dust and maybe water). There's no scriptural evidence to prove that all good dead people are going to Heaven which is the doctrines thought in churches today. Because of they were true, where did the likes of Abel, Abraham go? (Remember the parable of the Rich man and Lazarus never existed. Jesus was making a parable of sin and it's consequences). Even after Jesus left the earth. No scriptural reference made mentioned whether Abraham actually was in Heaven or not.
So, what's the destinies of good and bad ones, righteous and unrighteous?
Recall Romans ,6:23 for the wages of sin is death . This is death like Adam died and recycled back to the dust of the Earth. Humans are made of fragile material which when breathe stop.
, they began to degrade. That breathe is the life force activating human...it's beyond oxygen. Only the creator can bring it back. To all those fitting for restoration. Remember God knows the number of strands of hair and also the normal of stars in each galaxy. Funny enough He knows them by name(Psalm 147:4). So, he knows the amount of humans that have died on the earth by their name, race and identity.
Therefore, when a human dies he returns to the dust he was made of, his life force ceases and goes to where no one knows but only the creator(Psalm 146:3,4). Then the issue of resurrection which has been the age long-standing belief of both Judaism and Christianity. The restoring of that life force. Jesus Christ when on earth shows how possible it was to achieve this. From Lazarus to Jarius' daughter. Even Elijah did also but they were not able to save their own self from death's sting. Because the one who gave them that power did it for Humans to see how feasible this was.

Conclusively, righteous humans will be restored back to life either heaven or earth remember the Lord's prayer (Matt 6: 9, 10). It is God's will for humans to still live on earth like he proposed when forming the earth. This will be possible through resurrection of death ones aeons ago.

The bible was written by people who didn't know how the world works...there's nothing like 'soul'. Nobody has died and come back to tell any tale.
We're just a speck of dust in this universe. There's no God up there watching and monitoring your movements and expecting worship from you. We're so tiny in this universe that we're almost insignificant.
