sampete: Do you stretch before you start? What about your shoes, what kind of running shoes do you use? How about your weight? Did you gain more in the last 4 years? Your best bet is to go see a orthopedic asap. 1 Like |

Do some leg stretching before and after you run. If possible do strengthen your legs by doing leg exercises |

1. Use the right trainers. This point can never be over emphasized. No matter how expensive a pair of trainers is, just buy it. I’m 100% sure that your injuries are due to your shoes. A good pair of running is essential too. You can get good second running socks in the market for close to 2000 naira. 2. Don’t start with jogging. Walking helps your body get into the rhythm. Try walking for close to two weeks, varying your distance, and see how it goes. 3. Start early: The strength of your mind is strongest when you wake up early. Try to jog before 5 a.m. 1 Like |

Sorry this may sound unimportant... But what type of shoes do you use? How elevated are the soles? Do they provide protection for your heels? (i know this is not the problem but it's a very good pointer to a good shoe.) Another things is how you run, and where... Bumpy roads to tend to create pressure on the knees as compared to even roads. With that been said, get well soon |

There are things to observe when jogging, landing and pivoting of your feet and also pronated feet might be a problem causing injuries not only to your knees but waist and ankles. |

I was jogging till I read alot of materials on line that the best outdoors exercises for cardio is brisk/fast walks and not jogging. Because of this exact complaint you are now making. I do fast walk for 1hr. I did same today. It is advised to do such to avoid long term effects on you knee joints as you age along. Please go back to brisk walk. Don't jog. Google fast walk and jogging on the internet. You will be glad you did. |

When I started jogging too, I almost gave up. Different typed of pains I had, but with time, they gradually went away. What I eventually learnt is that you need to take it slow. Start from as small as 2km a day if possible, watch what happens with the pain, also have rest days too, don't jog everyday. The key is start small till you can take up elongated distances. |

Please visit a lab and check your uric acid level. Samething happened to me few years ago. I tried most hospitals and did x rays and scan. All the doctors could come up with was arthritis and gave me pain tablets. I had to stop jogging and boxing completely for 6years due to the pain and working was almost becoming impossible. I was lucky to get a contact of a doctor in india. He requested for the x rays and scan I did and confirmed that its not a bone issue. He asked me to run 3 different test and one of them was uric acid test. I went to different labs in my area and even visited lagos state teaching hospital at ikeja and they told me they don't have the equipment for the uric acid test A nurse later directed me to a private lab where I did the test and result was sent to me within a week. The result confirmed that my uric acid level was extremely high (13 and the maximum for male is 4-7). I sent the result through whatsapp and the Indian doctor told me this is why am having knee pain. He prescribed some drugs for me and within two weeks, I was free of pains. Imagine suffering for more than 6 years with knee pain and not being able to work well and all doctors I met in lagos could give to me was pain medication. 1 Like 1 Share |

what most people dont know about exercise is that u dont just leave ur house in the morning or evening and start running or jogging ....u end up tearing ur muscles and ligaments....this whole thing is a process...the first thing to note is that once u feel any discomfort please stop immediately....u might be hurting urself more than u know ...,please dont follow those people who are advising u to endure ...u might just end up causing an irreparable damage to ur body ...or even die from hrt attack in trying to endure... once u feel pain pls stop immediately now here is the process for painless jogging 1. warm up combined with alot of stretching for every part of ur body...warm up includes ..brisk walking ..or other forms of light exercise google it 2. actual jogging..very little at first ,as u get more fit u can gradually increase the distance and pace ...please note u need about 180 mins of exercise in a week nothing more, jogging for hours is not good for u 3. cooling down ....slow walking for a reasonable distance combined with alot of stretching... remember not to ever stress ur self by standing too much or doing very strainous jobs on ur exercise days...rest very well,u need alot of rest after ur jogging ,drink plenty of fluids and eat a balanced diet please note keep ,it short and simple... ur body will tell u when the execise is no longer enough for u,u will increase it in bits going forward from there, ignore my typos and short forms |

If your limit is 5km jog, try brisk walking for 8-10km. Then gradually you can walk 1km then jog 1km. Continue in that sequence until you cover at least 6km. Do this until your system gets used to it. Same impact 1 Like 1 Share |

sampete: Here's it. Continue jogging. Let your pace be small. Don't over stretch yourself. Very important. Massage your thigh and joint immediately after jogging. This must be done immediately. You'll be fine. |

sampete: It’s not easy coming back to the same physical form after leaving a particular physical activity over a long period of time. Your fitness would’ve declined...gains in muscles tone and bone density would’ve gone. Forcing yourself to achieve that physical form within a short period of time isn’t good...you’ll have to start small...I read somewhere that you used to run 5km...welldone you. That’s a lot. I’d advise you to check your running trainers as well as your running surface. Footballers face your problems too...if you play on a grass field, sudden change to Astro turf will affect the joints...hips, knees and ankles. If you can try the gym...check your running shoes, try thread-mill...it has a different surface and different impact on your joints than hitting the tarmac or concrete pavement. Most importantly, build your core strength. Leg extension on a machine can increase your strength of your quadriceps and hamstrings..it’ll ease tension on your knee joints...cycling whether stationary or normal one will help you increase the strength of your thighs. There are various exercises to improve your gastrocnemius and soleus muscles (calf)...those are difficult but if your can do your legs exercises, your ankles and knees will smile when you jog. Good running shoes Build core strength Cycle Leg extension etc Thread mill. Stretches after jogging/yoga I jog so I know what you are going through. |

sampete: Try brisk walking instead of jogging. Jogging puts a lot of pressure on the knees/ kneecaps. Go for checkup or check other forms of exercises that won't be giving you such pains 1 Like |

Wear comfortable running shoes. Before jogging, do squats and stretch your legs. Allow your legs to rest after jogging, that is, dont jog on a daily basis. sampete: |

You're simply running your knees to the ground by over exercising yourself. Listen to your body and take it slowly. Download a nike run club app from play/iOS store. Use guided run option and allow a professional couch you through every inch of your runs.
