It is likely she has been paid some sum money, which is her Arrears.
Please confirm, if she has been paid money by her Aiico on monthly basis. If yes, I am so sorry to tell you that she is about to exhaust her balance with pension, and unfortunately, she will be left with nothing again.

It would have benefitted her if she had gone for ANNUITY (where she will be paid for life, plus additional life benefits)

In need of more information, questions, contact me on 0 8 0 6 5 9 5 2 5 9 4

Felt so sad reading the last paragraph. This country sha! You should have reported to PENCOM. There was a time I needed 25% of my RSA following my resignation (3/4 months), and PFA was asking all manners of stupid documents. I lodged a complaint with PENCOM at Ikeja GRA, my money came out with speed of light.
Dz pencom at ikeja, is it still there?

Brother, it is so sad to hear that. I will truly love to help you and your mother out in accessing all her entitlement.

I am a consultant as well as Advisor with Custodian. NOTE, there is no reason to be worried about where she has the RSA because she has all right to change her PFA ok.

Good morning sir. Please specify if she has retired. You talk about she got her gratuity.
NOTE, after pension Reform Act 2004, the pension and gratuity process has changed.
For her and you to know the exact amount in her RSA balance is she/ you request for Her TEMPLATE from her PFA (please be mad at the PFA) they rarely release it out except you show them mad front or extremely educated behavior, Hope you understand me.
For more questions and information, kindly contact me on 0 8 0 6 5 9 5 2 5 9 4
Thanks sir, she personally got her gratuity but mis managed it, we never knew until she fell sick and started asking her questions as regards her gratuity.

Subsequently, all efforts at helping her secure her accumulated pensions proved abortive before her demise.
Pls let me look for her documents and recharge my phone, I'll give you a call, thanks sir and God bless!

It is because you don't understand contributory pension. 27,000 is the summary balance that is the total balance as at 31st March 2021 while 19,000 of it is the contributions to her RSA (Retirement Savings Account) and the the 8,000 is the income realised from investing the money contributed (19,000).

What can deduce from the information available is that her mummy work with company that have pension program for it's staff. For the investment income of over 42% of her contributions, the RSA is over a year old. She may just work with the company for a few period or her employee are not making remittances of her deducted contributions and that of the employer.

Well explain, I also work for a pfa I made that point because a lay man will not understand what he posted

She actually got her gratuity but she mis managed it...

It's her accumulated pensions that she didn't get a dime from,
Pls, is there any Sure process as regards getting it?...

All my efforts to help her get it while she was alive proved abortive before she later died of stroke and diabetes...
we even took her to the verification exercise in an ambulance from
LASUTH to civil service club, ikoyi as directed by the govt then, despite seeing her serious condition, nothing came out. And when we ran out of funds, we resorted to borrowing.

we are not even done paying accumulated medical bills till date.

Ha! That's serious. The problem is that the government is trying to run away from responsibilities. There are several instances of unremitted pensions to civil servants' PFA and their RSA. I am not sure how unpaid pensions can be recovered for deceased people but I will help make enquiries and get back to you on it.

If she is has she completed all the necessary capturing? Does she have a letter of retirement from her last place of work?
Re: How Do I Help My Mum Retrieve Her Pension by pelmart: 11:36am On May 15, 2021
Please sir, are you confirming that she is dead? If she is dead, then you have to get a letter of Administration from an High Court before any information can be given out if any.
This one you said she collected her gratuity, from where, who paid her. Except you are talking about Arrears.
As I said, the process has been changed with the pension Reform Act 2004 and 2014. Rarely will any money be paid to any retiree after service except through the RSA balance which will be turn for the retiree to monthly pay after the payment of Lump Sum.
Please sir, kindly find means to give more clearer details so we can truly help you out.
Thanks

So if doesn't go to brekete, the pension is gone? So myopic!

It might sound incredulous to you sir, but the degree of hopelessness and ineptitude in this country is at a crazy level.

Niger Insurance plc has sat on my late mother's annuity balance since January 2020. Annuity balance mind you, not pension. This was her accumulated pension which was transferred from her PFA to Niger Insurance, for her to be paid a fixed amount monthly. Sadly, she passed on after just 3 years.

We had notified the insurance company which they acknowledged and sent us the balance for us to also acknowledge, which we have done. And then our troubles started. For 18 months and counting, Niger Insurance PLC has refused to pay my siblings and I (we're orphans as I write) according to the Policy agreement and payment advice which THEY gave us to sign.

I have written and called and written and called to the point that none of them take my calls anymore. Their MD/CEO inclusive.

It got to the point that I complained to NAICOM (regulator of the Insurance industry) via their Twitter handle. I highly doubt if any of their staff manages the account, much less responds to posts.

I had to go to their office in the state where I reside, to submit an official letter of complaint against Niger Insurance. A staff who received my letter assured me that I would get a feedback from NAICOM within 2 weeks. It has been more than 2 months since I submitted that letter and despite several calls I made to the staff, I am yet to receive any feedback from the regulator NAICOM, or Niger Insurance.

For goodness sakes, we are talking about funds that were entrusted to Niger Insurance PLC to invest and pay back on a monthly basis. We are not asking for a loan! Pay back the money that was given to you, and they are busy playing hide and seek. What is the difference between this behaviour and Ponzi schemes?

Dear @pek, please bear with people who have to stoop low and appeal to a non-govermental body to intervene in their behalf.

I have tried using a diplomatic approach in meeting with these people, but it seems that being a gentleman in this country is always viewed as an act of stupidity.

My brother and I have considered the option of seeking legal redress against Niger Insurance PLC. The legal cost involved has been our main hindrance at the moment, but that option is still on the table. We would still give it more thought after exhausting all other options.

Sorry to everyone for the long post. Needed to get it off my shoulders.

Let me expantiate further sir, she died since 2014, and by virtue of her secretive nature she refused to disclose how much she got as gratuity/ the process involved.

It was when she fell sick and we ran short of medical bills and started enquiring about her gratuity which she earlier claimed that she was expecting/processing that she eventually opened up that she had gotten the money, but she couldn't explain how she spent the money. ( she might have been duped or may be she squandered the money)

Subsequently, all efforts by her and myself at helpiing her get the accumulated pension arreas proved abortive before she passed on.

Pls, and assistance as regards securing the accumulated pension arreas before her death will be appreciated.

Niger Insurance has been sitting on my late mother's Annuity balance for almost 2 years now, despite the fact that all documentations have been completed.

Can anything be done to compel them to pay up?

That is very sad to hear. I believe you visit them to get enquiry on the delay on the payment. If there is no correspondence well pleasing, you can threaten to sue.
I find it very annoying in this country that everyone feels it's right to misbehave.
This annuity is the best plan for any retiree to guarantee the payment for life.
Nonetheless, Niger Insurance has been facing financial problems lately, and it is best to NAICOM understand, while the company is yet to be merger just as banks that had problems were mergered.
Rest assured that her money ain't going nowhere, it could take time but it will be got out.
I plead if you can visit their office nearby, make enquiry and threaten to sue.
I wish you best of luck and look forward to hearing from you soon. Best regards

Re: How Do I Help My Mum Retrieve Her Pension by pelmart: 5:32pm On May 15, 2021
Please accept my deepest condolences on her death.
Now, she is no more, you and your siblings (if any) will need to get Letter of administration from High Court, starting the RSA account number and PFA while you might have to get a lawyer because the PFA will not do anything or give out any information without the letter.
From there, you can make enquiry on the account and know what she was entitled to have now.
Also Note that, the RSA matures until the remittance of the government pension Bond ( Bond is more like a budgetary fund kept in stock). There are cases of some state governments delaying the bond up to 5 years or more.
Here in Lagos, it takes minimum of 3 -4 years at earliest.
Also Note, that there could be delay as to the time of processing, which may be proceeded as soon.
I truly wish you and siblings (if any) Best.
If there is more information, kindly contact me

Okay, you and your siblings are the beneficiary guarantors on the annuity.
Please kindly disregard my previous message as appropriate.
The best way is keep the threat on and possibly, get court induction, ordering them to make the payment soon.
Unfortunately, NAICOM should have done the merger of Niger Insurance because it is clear the company is no more financial capable.

There is little that can be done on my end as the annuity has rum for period and only left is the balance to be paid to the beneficiary.
I will help you guys raise it on a forum and see if there is other ways out. I wish you best.
Visit the Niger Insurance office and threaten to sue if the balance is not paid and possibly get a court induction on that. Regards

Thank you pelmart.

We are named beneficiaries, have signed and submitted everything Niger Insurance asked us to do. I have gone personally to their Head Office, written their MD severally and called their contact person so many times. Now they no longer take my calls.

Most times you hear situations like these and find them hard to believe, until one has experienced it firsthand.

They're making me feel as if I've failed my siblings. God dey.

I have just emailed Bereketefamily but received a mailer Daemon response. See attached pic. Kindly advise if you know an alternative means of reaching them.

I will pursue getting a court order as soon as the strike us called off.

Would keep in touch.

Thanks a lot.
