I do not understand why some always compare
The economy is different and not same currency even.
Minimum wage per hour is 8.91 so 45hrs per week you get 1600GBP per month and your spending just around 450GBP for accommodation and complaining? Well you have 1000 to play around though not sure about tax rate and you can do extra hours. How much percentage of your pay were you expecting to save before? All of it? Try come home to do same cleaning work and see if you can afford a studio in decent location like you have

This comparison is totally rubbish. What's exchange rate? Imagine I pounds = 1naira? What's the different?

If UK tire u come back naija and see the different.

A quality life is expensive to maintain.
And thats what they have there,
i can tell you categorically, that the quality of things they use over there re far higher than ours here,
think of anything, clothing, shoes, gas coker, name it, these things re produced by trusted organisations that government have a close look on the quality of things they produce.
Quality control is at its peak over there,
so this makes their things better in quality, and quality is costly to maintain.
Buh here, me and you know how e dey go,
fake yapar everywhere, even fake person dey, talkless of things, comparing the same stage or level,
it will be costly than ours here.

Standard of living is totally different. Studied and worked in the UK. I did a part time job as a student those days and it paid far more than some BIG jobs in Nigeria. What's the comparison sef?
Re: Cost Of Living In UK Compared To Nigeria (Photos) by gentilityndu: 9:00pm On May 16, 2021
I don’t know why Nigerians like to discourage their brothers not to come to abroad once they find their way to out of Nigeria. I stay in Uk presently. Work is very easy to get. Most jobs pay £10( it can be less or more), let’s assume you work 12 hours per day and you can be able to work upto 28 days in months, after tax, I’m sure, u can make btw £1,600-£1800. It’s not a bad deal if you pay such as house rent(You can even get cheaper than that)... d Op dey seek attention.

I used to tell Nigerians complaining that UK is too expensive to go back to Nigeria.

If you are not ready to work or pay taxes stay back in Nigeria.

The developed countries are built and maintained by tax.

And coming to the UK is not about making money alone, it boils down to good standard of living, good roads, electricity, clean tap water, healthy environment, internet, low stress etc.

If £1=1naira then truly UK is very expensive and it does not worth it leaving Nigeria

they earn enough to sustain that lifestyle, but ask them to return here where there are no jobs or there are underpaid jobs where you can’t even live an average life, or face buhari’s harsh economic policies, they’ll tel you no!
Re: Cost Of Living In UK Compared To Nigeria (Photos) by stasius: 9:10pm On May 16, 2021
Your comparison is nonsense.
You convert to Naira and quote huge figures forgetting they don't see it the way you see it.

That Naira is now worthless and have no value again doesn't mean that house is expensive to an average UK person.

Meanwhile you can stay there and make a better living and even move to a better bigger apartment if you are serious. The opportunity lies before you.

The comparison makes no sense.

I am heading to the UK for postgraduate studies and I will be sharing a 3 bedroom house with 2 other students, my estimated monthly rent (bills inclusive.......electricity, gas, water, internet, washing machine) will be about £500 which is around N336, 000 (AbokiFx) and by calculations, 2 weeks wages from the intended part time jobs will comfortably pay for the rent......the guy should stop whinning and return back to Nigeria.
Thank God you are going to UK very soon. Please make sure you send Money monthly to 50 or more family and friends who will be expecting you to. In 10 years if you are still in UK, you will join the league of people that home-based call "stingy useless" uncle in UK, no matter what sacrifices you made to assist them over the years.

I wish you good luck with the 10 to 20 monthly bills you will pay, especially when you become a family man. I know that initially you will be excited upon arrival BUT wait for a while before jubilating.

Who nor go nor know.
I stopped talking about life abroad years ago.

Since truth is a very scarce commodity in 9ja, skepticism and cynicism hold sway. grin cheesy.

You will later find out just how much bad belle people 9ja has. Those who will pillory you if you say things are not that easy abroad and ask you to return to 9ja Just for saying things exactly as they are.

Very happy for you that you are joining the Hustle too.
We need millions more people to join the Hustle.

before you use the word rubbish investigate thoroughly. most of these guys live on the streets. they don't have where to lay their heads. it is the lucky ones that you see complaining. the unlucky ones don't even have access to basic amenities. ask around you will know. some live 20 in a small cramped room like someone in ikoyi prison. they cannot come out even to beg talkless of to work. they come out in the night to commit all sorts of atrocities. the only way to make this your comparison is if you have your papers.
Re: Cost Of Living In UK Compared To Nigeria (Photos) by Toks2008(m): 9:30pm On May 16, 2021
Many people are so ignorant so let me enlighten them a bit.

First and foremost, in UK you earn about £1400 on the average if you are legally resident and can take up jobs and with this you can manage yourself well and still have savings of about £400 each month and I will break it down

You pay rent of 400 for a decent room in a shared apartment.

200 for feeding

If you have a car you spend like 50pounds a month to fuel it and if not you spend like 100pounds on public transport.

300 for other expenses like your phone data and other stuffs..

Now let's talk about the rent.

Do you know that paying 400pounds a month is very cheap if you consider the amenities included in this rent?

1. Gas and 24/7 electricity included and if you want to get that in naija you will spend about 200k a month to have steady electricity that will power all your appliances...

2. 24/7 blazing 4g or 5g Internet that allows you to video stream non stop for a whole month all. Included in your rent... This you can't even get in naija and any attempt to get any Internet that will let you video stream for a month non stop will cost you over 100k a month.

3. You get drinkable water and gas to cook and lots more..

Now tell me if the 400pounds is not cheap and the system even allows you make so much money to pay the rent unlike naija that you will sweat to even pay 200k a year due to hardship.

Not really expensive cos after all you have to pay for your bills not like Nigeria where one can evade bills like Electricity, Water, And other bills

The u lucky ones who are not legally resident should not be used as a yardstick.

Once you are legally resident you can never complain except village people are after the person.

You are so much on point.

Sometimes I wonder the motive behind such lame Comparison. Is it ignorance or to score some cheap political goals? like I saw in a different thread.

Just take a Look at exchange rate £1pound =#660 naira as at today

Imagine £200 pounds = #132 000 naira

UK Minimum wage per hour £13 = #8,580.
10 hours = #85,800 naira daily, assuming.

In Nigeria minimum wage for a Month(30 days) is =#30,000 = £45 pounds monthly = £1.5 pound daily = £0.15 pound per hour.

If OP Claimed his rent per month is #270,000 naira = £410. pounds a month

Let's say OP works 10 hours daily £130 = #85,800 daily × 4 days = #343,000 naira.

In Four days work OP CAN pay his house rent #270,000 with #70,000 naira change remaining.

In 30days, a minimum wage earner in Nigeria earn #30,000. Meaning it will take him 7 months to earn #270,000 that OP EARN in less than 4 days.

Who is fooling who?

And the Nincompoop will come and say life is cheaper in Nigeria to UK.

The OP should come back to Nigeria let another Person go.

My2cent.

Please what percentage Nigerians earn up to 9 million naira a year?

This is the UK minimum wage mind you.

Where you see 9 million?

Minimum wage is border line poverty, it's worse when you live in big cities like London.

Abroad is hard asf unless you get a great job , like bus analyst, project manager, software, doctor etc.

Even at that if you don't manage your funds properly, you'll just have very little left.

Yep Nigeria is actually better for wealthy people than abroad despite the lower standard of living because your fund's go farther, but that depends on how much more inflation devastates Nigeria.

So yes most Diaspora will move home if they're loaded enough .

Minimum wage in UK: £8.75 x 600 = N5,250/hour

Minimum wage in Nigeria: N30000/30 = N1,000/day == (N1000/8hrs) = N125/hr (if paid)

He should compare N5000/hr vs. N125/hr too.
