I'm Ghanaian. My Ghanaian aunt who's married to a Ghana-Nigerian have moved to Ghana, and when she's gisting with her kids in Yoruba it's as if they're FIGHTING. I'm not kidding. Even when they're gisting on phone it's as if they're FIGHTING. Up till today they still speak aggressively. In Ghana the Gas, who migrated from Ile Ife are the "aggressive" talkers. Lots of them are into boxing NoToPile: 3 Likes |

teemac01: I think your co-tenant a can invest in wireless switches for four or five users. The signal receiver can be placed anywhere outside or inside the "veteran tenant" home while everyone has their own switch. With just a press from the comfort of your room, you can turn it on or off. I think it should cost less than 10k on AliExpress and anyone with a fair knowledge of DIY can connect it to an existing NEPA connection. Alternatively, you can use wireless sockets (costs around 7k or so) that you can control the pump from your phone locally or from anywhere in the world with a SIM or WiFi enabled type of wireless switch. For those with overnight noisy neighbours or that have the overnight company of grinding generator noise behind their window, I think earmuffs can come in handy when they sleep. For those with neighbours that fetch water from water tanks they are not willing to help to sustain, just electronic locks will suffice. Only you or any other same neighbour will have the passcode or the switch to unlock when you wanna fetch. Just pray bad belle neighbours do not vandalize it. Those are the solutions I will definitely apply if I were in these situations. Honestly reading thru these submissions, Nigerians especially and maybe Africans as a whole are much tolerant. And I think it's more because of the communal culture that we have, which is not a bad culture. In the west, people get the police called on 'em for making few decibels of unwarranted noise for sustained periods. In fact, in several places you may not set eye on your neighbour or say anything more than hi for six months after you move in, and not minding being some introverted person I don't think I will relish such lonesome environment. No generator of course, but if there has to be any source of fumes from any source, the CO (carbon monoxide) alarm - which is a must for every homes - will ensure no one engages in life-endangering ventures that produce toxic fumes. The unduely snubbish, this-project-does-not-concern-me-type of street neighbour is the one I've experienced of recent. Before my arrival, he'd some unpleasant clash with majority of street peeps in landlord meetings and the usually refer to him as "the rich man of the street" which to me is more of mockery than praise because I will likely pay his monthly salaries from my own salary. He will not partake in any financial commitments from the landlords and the day I witnessed that personally was the day I ruled him out of consideration and immediately tagged him as having a serious personality disorder. He never give lifts to street neighbours in his car. In fact he will roll down the windows, then tell you that you shouldn't be angered for driving past you as it's not in his manner to give lifts. I mean who does that. The wife is nice and an almost direct opposite of all the man is, but if he ever spots her giving lifts in her car, stopping by to greet neighbours or even sound remotely patronising of any neighbour, that day she is in trouble. So she does good things secretly. Contribute money to bring NEPA light into the street, no he won't. Money to construct street gate, no. Money to grade the street road, no. Of course many other peasant families in the street default payment too but those ones are understandable. But I don't expect such terrible attitude from "the-wealthy-man-of-the-street". So I decided to rattle him a little. I got a couple of those 15k solar street floodlights and gave it to a carpenter landlord on the street with specific instructions to him to make sure it is installed on every other pole and ensures that the pole close to his compound is among the "every other pole" skipped. One neighbour of his met with me that he loved to have solar in his home but he could only afford little money. So I gave him one of my fairly used batteries and encouraged him to try his best to get solar panels. He had lights in his home in no time and it shocked that other nutcase that how could this peasant landlord neighbour of his afford solar in his home while he himself does not. Few weeks after I noticed he too went to subscribe for MTN lumous set. Jealous right? Yeah he was. Lumous that I wouldn't even advice my enemy to go for. Thank God I'm even the reserved type, so I have no reason to crave his company or his friendship. 14 Likes 5 Shares |

My neighbour is a witch.... A rope in front of my house, tied by me for hanging my clothes has now become a bone of contention... They all have theirs oh but all prefer hurrying to hang on mine and leave theirs just to make me feel bad, they also leave their houses to my frontage to deprive me of sleep in the name of gisting. 5 Likes |

Opistorincos: You said 4 windows away is a lie? Brosthe former house I lived generator fumes climb upstairs from our neighbors verandah up to our own and we are not even directly above him, it was choking and we didn't even complain too, we just leave the sitting room to the room. Thank God the flat is all these old big wide houses with enough room. After sometime landlord that stays on the ground floor with him took it up, seems he went to service it and then the smoke stopped. The fact that the other neighbors are not complaining doesn't mean they are not affected and wherever the wind blows the fumes go. 4 windows away doesn't mean she's lying. That smoke kills. 6 Likes |

That's bad. We don't do that in Ghana here. Not to compare, but it's not a common thing here. Over here if you have any issues with your neighbours, just inform your landlord and you'd be given good solution. The landlords are very respected BeeBeees: |
