Guys abeg. Can somebody write GRE for somebody or is there any runs for it ?

I need a score of 320 and my head is too full with family problems to start studying materials

How would you think of things like this? If you can’t write GRE yourself, That means. You don’t need it and graduate school is not for you.

Hello. My exam is nextweek. I took powerprep 2 today and the score wasn't really good. I got 317(Verbal 156, Quant 161) My powerprep 1 score was 319( Verbal: 155 Quant 164). Within the next 5-6 days, what do you think I can do differently, I need my score to be 320+. Thanks

Hello,

This is my first time of posting here. I'm interested in PhD program in US and plan to write my GRE/TOEFL by July or August for the Spring/Fall admission circle.
Below is my brief profile:

BSc Industrial Physics - 4.07/5.00
MSc Geophysics - 4.0/5.0
HND Mech Eng - 3.63/4.00
ND Mech Eng - 3.68/4.00
Currently, I work as an assistant Lecturer in a University here in Naija.

Programs of interest:
PhD Physics (Soft Matter or Nuclear)
PhD Nuclear Engineering
PhD Mechanical Engineering

Here are my grey area of concern:
1. Is there need for me to write another GRE Physics subject after writing the GRE General paper?
2. Do I need to convert my transcripts to WES?
3. What option(s) (Physics or Engineering) is best for me at this point for easier admission? I'm interested in both disciplines; so anyone can serve base on advice.
4. If there's any possible GRE prep group I can possibly join, please kindly add me to it to ease my preparation.
5. Do I need to apply for another Masters or straight PhD if I choose the Engineering field?
5. My email - comrade.dpsi@gmail.com

Thank you very much as you advise appropriately.

Hi Dpsi,

The answers to the first two questions would depend on the admission requirements of the school and program you are applying to. You should find this info on their websites or by contacting the graduate coordinator.
Not sure I can help with the other questions.

I wish you the best!

Does it mean that you can never get funding with GRE scores below 300?
CGPA : 4.6/5.0
You've tried taking GRE two times but it keeps falling short of 300

You can definitely get funding offers with scores less than 300. Although, some fields are more competitive than others. I have several people including myself who got multiple funded offers with a score less than 300.

WOW. Imagine. This is WhY it's good to ask question when you're lost. I've always thought it's not possible to get admitted without a high GRE score. I thought GRE is the main requirement

It depends on the program
Program like biomedical science doesn't require high GRE score, same as arts and humanities...

2021 UPDATE
It's been 6 years since i wrote this post and i still can't believe how this post has transformed into an amazing community of people working collaboratively to pass this exam. That said, i believe the materials and guidelines listed in the original post are currently inadequate. While it's been years since i wrote the GRE, there are two key information that are timeless.

1. The only resource you need is the Official GRE prep book. It's an excellent resource written by the creators of the exam. Who best to learn from than those who created the exam? Ignore every other book and just get the Official GRE guide.

2. The official GRE practice tests are extremely valuable. Powerprep online and Powerprep plus online are all you need. They are the closest substitute to the real exam. Before taking the test, i beg you, please do at least one Powerprep Practice test. I would strongly suggest you do the Powerprep plus online test. Yes, its a paid service but trust me, it's worth every penny. Please note, I failed to do this and it was evident in my scores.

Once you get these resources (the book and the practice test), the rest is up to you. Create a study plan and then study as much as you can. As you study, please try as much as you can to do the exercises in the books. Your learning is complete when you can answer questions related to that concept flawlessly. If you can’t solve problems, brotherly…sisterly…your learning is incomplete. Kindly go back and relearn the material.

Finally, after studying, do the Powerprep online or Powerprep plus tests. It might take you weeks or months to study and write the exams. It doesn't matter. Do what works for you with an eye on the college admission cycle. At this point, you are most likely prepared for the main exam. Go forth and slay your test with grace.

I know the process may not be as linear as stated above. You would have days where you have no desire to study. Sometimes, you might even feel lonely. This is entirely normal. To keep going, surround yourself with like minded achievers - they are many amazing people on this forum who you can connect with. Additionally, pay attention to your health, sleep and diet. The brain works superbly when you are well fed, sleep well and have a stable emotional life.

Before i leave, i just want you all to know that life is a beautiful journey. Stay focused and keep working on your dreams. One day you would wake up and discover you are living your dreams. It has been that way for me. I started with the believe that i would study and live in the US. Today, i am living that dream.

Stay blessed.
Danja.

Thank you for the update,
Pls how can one get the official gre prep

What did I do after watching the videos?

After learning the techniques explained in the aforementioned weblinks, I modeled my test-day essay topics along side the techniques. Additionally, you can read through sample essays in ETS guide to bolster your Analytical Writing Skills

Goodluck!

You don't have to start your application process with these schools.
Your personal details would be on the score sheet when submitted, so the admissions/graduate school office would be able to sort this out when it's time for reviews.

You might already know this, but you may need to have their GRE score submission codes in hand on the day of your exam. Those should be on their websites.

I wish you the best!!

I thought you can get the school names by just searching.

By upper week, you must have written your GRE by now. Can you share your experience?

I got 312. Q163 and Verbal was 149. Very painful. Still seeking advise whether to rewrite or not. I am considering a graduate program in Civil Engineering. *If you are seeing this what would you advise, am I good to go?*

As for my experience, I would say the Quant was fair, what GRE was testing is time management and ability to pay attention to details, nothing really out of ordinary except some few questions probably experimental, I got 3 quants sections. My Quant score could have been 165+ or more by my first section was bad, I had to make sure I get almost every question in the subsequent one. As for verbal, GRE is not testing vocabularies like before, it's more of context and understanding clues and sentence structure. I must have missed so many questions on TC and SE cos my RC seems smooth. In summary, don't fret, take enough practice test, work on your practice test and use more of official guide materials. GRE is standardized, that means they have scope of what they intend to test, there is a pattern most especially for the Quants.
