Two days ago, it was widely speculated that the one-year mandatory scheme for all graduates will be scrapped following the second reading of a bill in the House of Representatives seeking to end the scheme which some feel has outlived its usefulness.

Addressing the speculations on his Twitter handle this morning, the Minister said the government is committed to sustaining the scheme.

Insecurity is a general problem in the country it also affects education, transportation e.t.c in general, but rather than scrapping education, n.y.s.c
we can adapt the scheme (for safety reasons) to suit the current situation.
there can't be "free money" from government to assist these graduates en masse yearly if it's outrightly scrapped.

I agree totally but posting them out to other geographical locations may pose a threat to their lives, considering the security situation in the country, so I suggest that school programs would last for 4 years, depending on your course of study, then extra one year to learn a skill of choice then, you graduate and the government gives you a soft loan to start up, and sets committees to monitor individuals progresses, what do u think

Scrap the nysc , it’s no longer useful, attach every graduate to the bank of industry for entrepreneurial training and funds for start up.

#33,300 monthly it's not a waste of time for a sensible person/corps member or fresh graduates. this is more than minimum wage. it's not as if your life depend but this has helped some people to take off before they found their feet. there is no reason for unnecessary argument.
Just adapt the scheme for security reason and don't take the money off.
because govt will not dash you mega money at once if its scrapped.

a great point you've raised there. but consider the population of graduates every year they have to save the money to pay at the end of their training plus feeding allowance during the period. so the rest of the money they can be given for their initial set up.

How I wish these dunce of government can see these excellent ideas and out them to work and I tell you, in the nearest future, we will grow so much economically that we don't need any foreign goods in Nigeria, as things would be produced locally here

is it not more reasonable in this corrupt country if you hustle then also earn for a year #33, 000 (n.y.s.c money) rather than scrap it and remain with nothing and still be searching for work without any financial compesation.
do you think things are so rigid that corps members don't make money during their service year. i made money from three sources during my service year. the so called Npower, Youwin how many people benefitted from it?! don't you know the unemployment rate. you are saying they should work, where as some even established through saving from there. Corps members join resources together or individually and take off from there.u should be smart in this corrupt system?
