Sadly, I totally agree with the idea that everyone in Nigeria should be provided for in the constitution. Why can't Yoruba Muslims have their Sharia Court to determine issues arising from their practice of Islam. Like the author rightly said, at least the civil part of sharia should be permitted in South West where the population of Muslims is equally reasonable. There is no harm in it. If the demand was for the implementation of Sharia Criminal law that allows cutting of hands, stoning to death etc as punishment for crime, then I don't endorse it.

People that have access to internet always believe their opinions matter on those who does not. PFN doesn’t need to say anything sharia law it will not stand in Southwest,no matter how they try.

1. It is not true that Christianity arrived in Nigeria in 1842. Christianity came to Nigeria in the 15th century through Augustinian and Capuchin monks from Portugal. It was the first mission of the Church of England that established in 1842 in Badagry.

2. The statement that Shariah in South West was established decades before arrival of Christianity is a big lie in many ways. The Sharia Court at Ede which is the first ever was established during the reign of Oba Abibu Lagunju, a reign that only started in 1855 when Lagunju became the first Muslim Timi of Ede and 1855 is much later than even 1842 by any metric.

3. Sharia by definition is Islamic canonical law based on the teachings of the Koran and the traditions of the Prophet (Hadith and Sunna), prescribing both religious and secular duties and sometimes retributive penalties for lawbreaking. It is a given that modern democracy and the Nigeria Constitution cannot exist in co-implementation with Sharia. Sharia Law on Apostasy and Blasphemy are clear violations of various sections under the Nigeria Constitution relating to human rights.

If non-Muslims like Christians express worry about Sharia in a secular State, they have valid reasons to be so worried.

By virtue of Nigeria being a secular State, it is wrong to use State resources to further any religion, be it Christian or Muslim and a Sharia Court funded from the State coffers is State support for a particular religion no matter how you look at it.
