When Will Twitter Ban Nnamdi Kanu's Hate Speech?

Hate Speech Monger - Nnamdi Kanu

This man posts all sorts of vitriolic, abusive, threatening messages against Nigeria and the Nigerian government, including highly tribalistic smears, and blood-curdling commands to his followers, to kill and maim innocent Nigerians, including law enforcement agents.

BUT NOT FOR ONE DAY have I heard that Twitter cautioned him, or warned him against such dangerous use of the platform.

And then the Nigerian president uses the same twitter to warn troublemakers of repercussions, and HE gets his posts deleted by twitter.

I mean, WHAT CLEARER CASE OF BIAS IS THERE THAN THAT?

If I were Buhari, I would do the EXACT SAME THING, and ban them from operating in the Nigerian space.

Oh sure, some people can use VPN, but research shows that most peeps won't bother if they have to go to that extent.

So WELL DONE Mr President.

Why not start an online campaign for Twitter to ban him by reporting and pointing out his tweets that are in violation of the Twitter code of conduct or rules if engagement.

Someone started that which led to Buhari's suspension

For me, the issue is not whether Twitter was right or wrong for deleting the president's tweets. The issue is that in a bid to get back at Twitter, the president dragged the entire nation into it. Twitter deleted his tweets and he's moving to block the entire nation of about 200 million people from accessing the app without VPN as if the country is his personal property and the opinion of the people doesn't matter. Even the people praising him for this are also caught up in the middle of what shouldn't even concern them cause he'll only end up stressing everyone, the organization and his citizens alike.

It would appear that you are not knowledgeable on the issue regarding power deposition.
The Nigerian president cannot for any reason sound like mnk.
He is deposited with the power to portray a balance.
I am Igbo I am not ipob, why should I be receiving threats bcus of ipob.
So why hasn't he threatened the Ne for all the unmeasurable atrocities that Boko Haram and bandits have carried out??.
Apc will be the downfall of this country.

This has crossed my mind several times I must admit.. why is Kanu freely posting hateful and inciting comments on twitter and facebook yet they can't shut him off or ban him for violating their rules..

Can anyone post such inciting comments about killing Americans on twitter and they won't take it down? Igbos have really abused those platforms yet when you ask them to leave your domain, they'll refuse.

You lots don't know what divorce or breakup means, you'll definitely pack your bags and leave my space.

It is important to distil issues to principles so that we are consistent whether now, in 2 years or 20 years

First Nigeria is not the first country to restrict twitter. It is officially banned in China

Twitter is an emerging technology and existing legislation is playing catch up
There is a cultural dimension to freedom of expression
We cannot do everything the OYIBO way

I am no supporter of Buhari but the office he occupies is important

I cannot accept a FOREIGN business entity telling the president of my country to shut up under any guise

Still there are many issues to debate and we should debate them without becoming enemies
That is democracy

We must learn how to compartmentalize our emotions and sentiments

Your problem is that you are seeing it as a personal beef between Buhari and Twitter. Buhari is acting in his capacity as President, by saying that you cannot operate in our space if you allow secessionists and anarchists to post destabilizing messages on your platform, while disallowing Nigerian authorities from making posts threatening repercussions for breakdown of law and order.

If the country descends into warfare, will Twitter executives come and fight the war? No. They will be enjoying on their private yachts in the Caribbean.

So Buhari is only protecting his country from descent into anarchy and disintegration.

That's his job.

Which campaign sir? There's no Twitter Nigeria anywhere, it's IPOB terrorists online platform. Check the evidence that even Nigerians are shocked that 'Twitter ' left such an incendiary tweet.

Seriously, China? Dude, we are not in China. You cannot treat China's social media ban in isolation. If you're advocating the Chinese style of government, they you'd be prepared to embrace the totality of what comes with the absence of democracy. The Chinese government can ban any website without issues cause they never claimed to be democratic. As of 2019, the governments of China, Iran, North Korea, and Turkmenistan have blocked access to Twitter in those countries and nobody is saying anything cause they are not democratic nations. The deletion of Buhari's tweets is simply no justification for doing that in Nigeria except the government is telling us the style of government has changed.

In fact, I'm surprised you even mentioned democracy in your post cause nothing you said is remotely democratic, no disrespect intended. The president's tweets were deleted and the next line of action is to stop all his citizens from freely accessing the app even without their consent? And you still said "that is democracy"? Even in countries where social media is regulated, it's mostly to avoid crimes and hate speeches. How do you explain that your president banned the app in Nigeria simply cause his personal tweets were deleted?

What exactly is the oyibo way here? And what would then be the African way? Moderating other individuals while allowing certain class of people to post just anything? You guys complain about Nigeria, yet you're not willing to let go those things that make Nigeria a terrible place. Yes, you mustn't do everything like oyibo but sadly, it's thier platform and they have rules you must follow. And as far as that app is concerned, the creators are the gods and thier rules stand. You can leave thier platform if you feel unfairly treated or create yours if thier concepts don't appeal to you. Just don't expect special treatments. And whatever you do, you don't drag the entire nation into it.

What is democracy
Twitter is a business
Twitter is not democracy
Are Nigerians present on the Board of twitter? How many?
I would say the same thing for Jonathan, Obasanjo or Abacha

Twitter should not censor the president of Nigeria and if it chooses to do so it should be kicked out of Nigeria. That s the African way

Try and get sense. You are equating a dangerous, divisive and threatening tweet by the sitting president of the most black populous country on earth with a non state actor like Nnamdi Kanu?

If that is the case, agitate for Nnamdi Kanu to switch places with Buhari so that Kanu's tweets can be deleted and Buharis own kept

Does NTA have a licence to broadcast in the US

Does RT have unlimited access to Western media audiences

why should Twitter not be subject to regulation

That s the issue here

BEING SUBJECT TO LOCAL REGULATION

has Twitter not had regulation issues in Israel, France and Turkey?

Sir, that has been done sir. It's their responsibility even if there's no report with how that incendiary tweet became widely circulated and trended on Twitter , even shared by the IPOB terrorists. They left it for a reason; it advances the interest of those who should have deleted it or flagged it. That was a reckless action by them and Nigeria is not answerable to a business entity operating in her land. They were recklessly partisan. Jack will now look into all the facts and realise something is not right and FG is right.
As we type here, the incendiary tweet is still there!visit www.freestuffsng.com for latest freestuffs in Nigeria. God bless Nigeria.

This is your intelligent brain trying to make sense of Buhari's actions. And that's okey cause it's human nature. But it would have made more sense if Buhari's administration had called out Twitter on the account of thier inaction regarding Nnamdi Kanu's tweets prior to now. Banning the app cause their own tweets were deleted suggests it's more about their mangled ego than the security of the country. And by making reference to Nnamdi Kanu, we are acknowledging the fact that both parties made disdainful comments on the app. Like I stated, Twitter could be partial and I'm not in any position to defend them. But saying Buhari banned Twitter to protect Nigeria would be playing on the intelligence of Nigerians.
