Now I get the gist lol. “They are all failures, but one failure is better than the other”? Yeah, right!

I wasn’t comparing, I only set the records straight about the “Jonathan was betrayed” part of your post. He wasn’t betrayed, he only reaped what he sowed when he betrayed those that helped him into power.
You didn’t set any record straight. If anything you’ve broken the record grin

On a serious note my man. Can you tell us which President that wasn’t helped into power ?
Obj was helped , ya Adua was helped , Jonathan was helped and even Buhari was helped into power. That’s how politics works. You have to befriend everybody so as to win an election and after election you kiss them goodbye.

We can deceive others but we can’t deceive ourselves.

I’m not a politician (Pdp or apc or whatever). But I can confidently say Nigeria was safer pre-2015 than now.
The likes of Buhari and his cronies orchestrated bokoharam to frustrate Jonathan and now the same bokoharam has boiled out of control.
Even as at that have you seen where any member of this government condemn the atrocities of bandits/ killer herdsmen or bokoharam?...
Did you hear where they condemned the shooting at lekki toll gate ?
Instead they were busy putting up propaganda here and there.
And yet you’ll come here and be saying “you were betrayed by Jonathan”
Can you even visit you village without thinking about your security?

If you were referring to me (I’m only guessing because you did not quote me), I’m not from a village. And yes, I can visit my home confidently and safely. I’ll be making a trip soon, in case you want to instruct those anarchists and arsonists to lay in waiting. My state is relatively safe and peaceful, we do not burn government institutions and security outfits where I come from. We believe in the power of the ballot, and we are always patient until the next election cycle to elect or change our leaders. We do not call for arms or insurrection when things are not going our way politically. Nor do we threaten secession through killing and destroying. We wait, change, and change the change when necessary. That is the beauty of democracy.

That’s where you got it all wrong, man! Politics is not about betrayal, but rather about trust. If the bolded is your understanding of politics, I can tell you for a fact, that your political career will not last, if you have any. Politics, like most endeavours in life, is all about trust. I will say no more on this matter, lest I cross the line.

Lol, my brother, at the bolded, if that was so, no-one would be able to govern anywhere if they dumped all allies immediately after winning election. If na so, we go dey see Caesar and Brutus re-enactments everyday worldwide.

My own take is that even if Jonathan reneged on some shadowy pact to be a one-term president, in the greater scheme of things neither he nor Buhari came there primarily to do good for Nigeria and Nigerians, so why should any such pact be of relevance?

Nigerians don't deserve better than Buhari, we are who we are.

We are good at writing pages after pages of complain but lack the backborn to take action.

We will still vote in another useless president after Buhari

Just at my work place though I have quit the place.

One of the bosses there took I and some other black people (Nigerians) to be precise. Gave us the dirtiest hardest job ever, we worked and didn't go for the second break. We were tired, we murmured amongst ourselves that we were tired, I told them when I see the boss I'd ask him to let us have our break, when the boss came, I asked him, instead of these Nigerians to back me up, they kept mute and I thought to myself, if this guy gets mad and decides to fire, he could fire me easily without problem and probably paint me thr bad guy, but the many Nigerians never talked they kept mute.

This is really a problem.

Later. On a different day, another boss (white man) selected us black men ( Nigerians) and sent us to do another hard work... This time we were stacking up baking tray to be sent for washing and bringing out new ones. He selected some whites too. Me and one other Nigerian was stacking the tray whilst some others was bringing in new tray. The whites were putting the tray on the carousel to be used immediately.

Tray stopped coming out to stacked na so one white guy tell me and the other Nigerian to go push trolley(neat trays) out to him I tell am I no fit. Oga go call the main boss, boss come deh shout give me, I shout back give am, the other Nigerian join me too but only one Nigerian. Boss see say two of no fit work there him change the two of us. Leaving the only Nigerian weh no talk to do the work.

LoL.

I will reproduce a quote I stumbled on Twitter today.

It has always been a great temptation, for men of action no less than for men of thought to find a substitute for action in the hope that the realm of human affairs may escape the haphazardness and moral irresponsibility inherent in a plurality of agents.”
-Hannah Arendt

That mostly sums our 'actions' as Nigerians in the abroad.

Thank you for the responds. I don't think the jobs i have been applying for are ''professional jobs''. I get most job update from indeed which some clearly state that no experience is required but still not getting the job.

Above all, keep at it. Don't get discouraged. When looking for a job, rejections come with the territory.

True talk. Persistence trumps all .

Looking for a job is a job in itself.

I remember when I came back to the UK in 2008 when my foray at setting up a restaurant in Lagos didn't work out due to pilfering staff and I came back to the UK when the 2008 global financial crash just started with 2.6 million Britons unemployed and at the job centre i had to give words of encouragement to a middle aged English former Sales director who used to manage 250 people in the UK civil Service and lead trade delegations to China etc on behalf of the UK govt and he was going to give up as that was his first time of being unemployed in his 50 something years.

I told him to try what I did which was to treat job hunting as fishing and just keep sending out those applications as job hunting is a numbers game. I had a target to apply for at least 20 jobs every day which is quite easy as I avoided filling in long soul destroying application forms that could take up to 2 hours a piece and I only went for jobs where they only needed a CV + short cover letter and once i applied for a job, I took my mind off it and once i reach my daily target of 20 jobs, i just shut my laptop, dressed up and went out to hang out / have a few beers with my friends just to get me out of the house for the day and take my mind away from the fact that I was unemployed and there was no mobility in the jobs market as people already in jobs were too scared to change jobs in that Global recession that was the worst since 1930.

My 20 job applications happened every week day and I received so many "we are sorry" emails that it stopped bothering me after some time. It eventually paid off because i can not remember applying for my current job and I think one of the agencies I bombarded with CV's over the years was into IT headhunting and my CV popped up, I did the programming test, passed and the rest is history. The moral of the story is to keep at it 'cos as my Dad used to tell us, Winners Never Quit and Quitters Never win .

If i were to lose my job today, I would just smile, go to the pub and get plastered and the very next morning, I would update my CV and start sending it to at least 20 jobs or more a day. I can even remember during the dot com boom when you could walk out of one IT job today and get a better paying one in 30 days or less and whenever I was in between jobs then, I used to apply for 100 jobs a day as my target. (again easy because once I upload my CV to Jobserve with a generic short cover letter that does not mention any job title, it was just a matter of click and the application is sent and in them days because of the IT skills shortage, the power was resident with jobhunters and you did not even have to see an agency face to face before they sent you for an interview at the employing Company as you would have to sit an IT test in your relevant area anyway.

Then the dot com bubble burst and jobs started being off shored to India for cheap labour and the IT industry boom went belly up but I think it is beginning to pick up over the past few years maybe because Technology is moving too rapidly that off shoring alone can not cater for all the available IT positions. Then Smart Phones, Apps, Social Media, Big Data etc came along.

There was an extensive discussion of this issue on pages 587 and 588 of this thread. Go through those pages and see the suggestions that people made, starting from word-of-mouth/personal contacts/agencies (the likes of Blue Arrow, Reed and so forth) all the way down.

I know of a couple of students who just walked into a nearby supermarket and asked if they had some shifts available.

As someone else mentioned, you can post an anonymised CV here if you like. However you format it, make it precise and readable. Tailor it to the job you're applying for where applicable. Most of these student jobs are open to all, or are shift/zero hours, so detailled discussion of the size of the CAPEX one managed while working in procurement at Nigerian Breweries for instance should be left for roles where that makes sense. Leave out long talk.

If you're applying online for some of these shift jobs and have to include a cover letter, make sure it's drafted in excellent English. Keep it short too, that way fewer mistakes are made. And, strangest of all, be sure to answer your phone when it rings. Could be anyone. Scammers cant scam you simply because you answered the phone. You're a foreigner with a funny African name and a different accent, so don't compound your job market situation with a "Who is this speaking?" Always answer with a sharp-sounding "Hello. Good morning/afternoon." Wait for the person on the other end of the line, make them talk their own. Make sure your email address is professional - your. name@whatever.com. Leave out the sexydiva443@gmail.com type of stuff. And so on and so forth.

Covid has had one somewhat silver lining - the large number of jobs that have moved online/become remote. Customer service, all that type of thing. You can make up your 20 hours with some of those types of roles, all from the comfort of your home.

Above all, keep at it. Don't get discouraged. When looking for a job, rejections come with the territory.

Correct man.
