I think one thing about humans is that they think "one shoe fits all", "your mum is just like mine".

I am following my own mum's footsteps. She brought us up well enough for us to be able to make our decisions ourselves. She would only chip in advice. And all of us married our choices; Yoruba, hausa.

My issue is with parents trying to dictate their children's lives and the children allowing it.
