Claim one: Jesus is often mentioned in church.

Claim two: If demon hears the name of Jesus Christ, it trembles and vanishes.

Your claim: A demon goes to church doesn’t change it

so what is now the essence of the church the demon entered when what you people do claim is “if a demon hears the name of Jesus, it will tremble and vanish”?

That means you people are lying!
buhari listen! church is just a normal building like any other, presence God is also different. So your logical assertion does'nt fit in.

Had a heated argument with one of my colleague who is a fan of upholding customs and traditions, especially traditions handed down from our ancestors.

I was of the opinion that traditions were made by men of old and can be modified or altered to fit our world, especially when it conflict with our belief system acquired overtime from learning, practice and experience.

He was of a strong opinion and vehemently sounded it to me that all traditions, whether barbaric or not, should be strictly practised like the one shared by the OP. I disagreed with him on this and told him it is a matter of choice and shouldn't be enforced on those who choose not to practice, as some of these practices are inhumane, barbaric and goes contrary to our logical reasoning and newfound belief.

As for me, I am selective with traditional practices. Those ones that I see that does not go against my belief and or that is not barbaric, I "may" observe, but if it goes against, like idol worship and sacrifices to idols, and some other barbaric ones, I discard such thought, let alone, observe them.
I have been in your situation several times and I am sorry to come into the conclusion that most of our people are morons. In fact, that's why we are where we are today as a nation. Customs and tradition evolve as people gain more insight into various aspects of life with exposure to other people and their approach to life. Even our illiterate ancestors had to gradually alter some barbaric aspect of culture and tradition as they got more and more exposed. Yet, today you see someone with one useless PhD certificate blindly defending some ridiculous culture and tradition. Mumu people.

I wonder how these people have the courage to be insulting others while their culture is one of the barbaric in the world. Their food is poison in disguise or how do you explain someone cooking yam in a soup and still eat that trash with joy. No wonder they have flat heads and yam legs. If these igbos have any iota of shame, they shouldn't be anywhere close to where insults are being exchanged cos they've got none on others.

Backward people with Archaic traditions.

You don’t need anybody’s gospel here.
These are the same people who attend almost every church service and masses and listen to the same gospel you are talking about.

What they need is common sense and civilization

God bless your sense

There's no way that woman Wil drink that water and not fall terribly sick.... Then they will be joyous she's sick and that the late hussy is dealing with her.

These are the same folks who are quick to call others names. Can't imagine this happening. Once a man dies they strongly belief his wife killed him... Lobish

[quote author=MrSly post=102709759]Man has appointed himself judge over fellow man. A man cant even drink his own bathe water let alone drinking that of a corpse. Imagine the traumatic condition a poor bereaved widow is being subjected to for the sake of superstition.[
To tell you how stupid some of our culture can be, will the man drink the water if the reverse was the case?
Some of our African culture are just so unfair to women. Na now dem go see the wizards of the man family who will not want to recognise with his family when he was alive spearheading the whole culture thing.

it is a local barbaric culture,

Not a function of cleaninless or dirtiness

You guys are just talking out of ignorance, that isn't a culture, I know them(the man and the wife) very well,we are in the same market, the couple lived peacefully, the man died when he traveled home for the burial of his wife's sister in-law under questionable circumstance (before his death he was having a running battle with his own brother, people are pointing a finger on his brother for his death, they just want to shift the blame(I am sure if the woman drinks the water, she will not survive and they will say she is the killer).

This is soo bad but the thing is that the wife hustled the husband.
She lived waywardly and the family is trying to pay her back in her own coin by killing her with the water poison.
If there’s joy in that marriage as she alleged, her family should be at the front of discussion and not the human right but they know their daughter.
