leo1234: Some people will commit suicide if they sold at loss and later see the stock rallying. The way I see Transcorp and the transformations surrounding it, it gonna dominate the exchange for days/weeks when the northward move finally comes. My portfolio here is in two forms. 50% of Transcorp kept for Jijo. Another 50% for that #5 long term. Seems the weak hands have been chased out of the bus main seats. Those with attachment seats might be asked to leave the bus next week. |

Good morning bosses! I want to thank each and every one that has contributed immensely to the stability of this thread; I must confess, I have gained a lot from a few read. Please, I need an advice on which stock that is best to buy for a long-term holding(3 years+), considering the fact that I am currently a student in 100 level. I have an idle sum of 170,000 naira lying in my coffer. Is there any stock that can give an astronomical return within a space of 3 years of holding? Once again, thank you all for making this thread so educating and insightful. This thread alone has impacted immensely to my vocabulary diary (a student studying Economics).I can confidently use some of the quality financial term learned from this masterpiece in all my field dealings. Thank you all! 4 Likes |

Ishiewo: I think first of all, you should adjust your expectations when it comes to the market. This is not a place where you will make a lot of money quickly, and I don't think anyone here (or anywhere) can tell you with any amount of reliability which stock will provide "astronomical returns" over a short period. Seeing as you don't have a lot of money to invest, and assuming you are around 20 years old, your greatest asset is time. Your career will likely span the next 40 years which will give you a long time to build wealth. If you average around 20% returns per year. which is very good by most standards, your N170,000 investment will become N260,000,000 over 40 years without adding a single naira aside from your initial investment. My own personal advice would be to take a serious look at your financial situation. Do you have any emergency savings? If anything comes up suddenly would you be able to afford it without having to sell your investment at the wrong time? Finally, you should figure out if the stock market is the best return on investment for you. For a lot of students, this money may be better invested in themselves. If you have any lofty career plans, maybe put the money towards a professional qualification or skill that will increase your earnings power when you get a job out of university. Or perhaps, you could put it towards a business idea that you have that will generate far better cash on cash returns. Either way, you are in a very good position and you are lucky to learn about investing while still a student. 5 Likes |

Ishiewo: Just as you acknowledged @erwinschro gave very sound options. However, if you insist on doing stocks and if I'm in your position with the knowledge I have now I will invest the 170k like this: Zenith - 70k Gtbank - 50k Ucap - 50k reinvest the dividends from the stocks in Abacus money market fund. Remember you still need to do your due diligence, get some basic knowledge about investment particularly stock investment. You can open a stock/cscs, Abacus MMF account with investment one by clicking on the link on my signature. I wish you well! 1 Like |

Never knew that Transcorp has a dividend history though below expectations as a result of poor earnings and profits. With all these acquisations on record, next year dividend will be better.More acquisations, more earnings, more profits, rise in eps=good dividends for shareholders/price appreciations. Kudos to uncle T for adding value.

Ishiewo:For me, N170k is too small to spread on 3 stocks....... The three stocks mentioned by @Emmasoft are all good........BUT I will say, stake the money on JUST ONE out of them..... As adviced by @valueinvestor, you have to watch and time your entry so you can key-in at relatively low and bargain price.... ** UCAP @6 with 170k will give you roughly 28,000 units excluding fees. ** ZENITH at say N23 will give you roughly 7,300units.... ** GTB at say N28 will buy roughly 6,000units....... Now you have to put other things into consideration while choosing one out of them .........these includes more value for money, interim dividend payment, final dividend, EPS, past PAT, Total market Cap, cap appreciation, etc. For me, I'll go with ZEE........or UCAP... ...(modified). 4 Likes |

GTB ** Currently suspended... ** Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) will be delisted....... ** Guaranty Holding Company Plc (HOLDCo) will be listed in its place....... **When? We don't know yet..........but due to GTB's efficiency and influence, it's not expected to be long or too long.......SEC should be on top this. STANBIC The lower it has gone after bonus markdown was 39........with more bargainers showing up. Will it stay more at the park, go down low the more or reverse up from this junction? We are watching......... 1 Like |
