I don't know of other regions.

BUT not SOUTHWEST cool

Economy is not only buying and selling of electronics, and second hand phones and parts.

For every Igbo man selling any of those in any towns SW, there are hundreds of hundreds selling similar in The same town.

I don't know why people think economy is solely based on Buying and selling of second hand clothes and spare parts.

Who controls the Music, Movies, Arts, Education, Plywoods, Techs, ICT, ceramics, Building materials, Tourism, Agriculture etc?

Lol, ECONOMICS should be a major.course to be studied in South East
EVERY BUSINESS IS INTO BUYING AND SELLING... grin

Just as I predicted. The hate and Igbophobia will increase, instead of decreasing by the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu. Just imagine this thread and the numbers of comments from hate-filled bigots.

Northerners still try, what basic things do SE as a region produce that serves nationwide?

You are a liar. The report is correct. You are talking out of ignorance. The IBOs control 60% of the business in Lagos . From Ijora to mile 2, from Oshodi to mile 2, from Olodi Apapa / Coconut to mile 2 , from mile 2 to Alaba International, from Alaba to Agbara (excluding Industrial estate) and beyond, estimated 60% of the major properties and businesses belong to the IBOS. My Yoruba people are selling their ancestral lands and houses including their ancestors graves to the IBOS. They claim to excavate the bones of the dead ancestors to another place. When they spend the money, they return back to bus stops as area boys. Our women are selling sachets alcoholic drinks at bus stops and street corners combined with prostitution.

I have always stood up for the underdog my entire life, and it is more or less appearing to me that everything in Nigeria since I started paying attention has been teaching or training me to hate Igbo people for no just cause. The obvious Underdog and the most nationally oppressed in Nigeria has to be the Igbos. I am from a minority group in the SS and I refuse to fall for it.

This article by dailypost apparently is a psyocps to massage nerves of igbos badly hurt by the arrest of Kanu. But i think while 90 percent of igbo people might want biafra, they are split in their support for Nnamdi kanu. Using this man and his group to generalise all igbos is painful and i believe it is most likely going to cause the support of Biafra to be much stronger.

Here is my take from the article, some of you getting offended by it should know that the article does two things at the same time. Massage egos of the igbos currently feeling wounded, but also remind other nigerians why they should continue to support the oppression of igbos.

Here are some facts.
In a rag tag economy like nigeria, Small Medium enterprises (SMEs) are the bedrock of the economy, especially buying and selling. You can verify that buy checking our gdp and then the minus the market value of the biggest known companies in Nigeria and you can you can see that those big name companies are hardly scratching the surface of the nigerian economy.

Fact 1.
Igbos from the south east own over 65% percent of businesses in Rivers State. The article says its 80 percent of critical business in bayelsa is owned by igbos and i see some people here are offended. The truth is that it is actually higher. I visit NDU alot to pick up female students with friends (yes Im no saint) and all we complain about is the igbo dominance in all sectors it is that Bad, shops, hotels, spots mostly igbo owned, This was the reason for some clash with local indigenes a few years ago if you follow the news. Listen, the fact is that the few people picking the biggest money in Bayelsa are Bayelsans but the group making the most money and growing in Bayelsa state as a group are igbo people. Arguing means you probably never spent a day moving around in bayelsa state.

I started spending time in Lekki Ajah axis of lagos, and I most of the properties there are owned by igbo people, some estates are 90 percent owned by igbo, shoprite shangotedo, most shops are owned by igbos, same for alot of the other shoprites and big malls around the area, i noticed all these While looking at properties across Lekki, ajah, this was just a few months ago. While staying in hotels in lagos out of every three hotels i looked at i noticed one will be owned by an igbo man.

Same applies to Abuja, all the new housing estates have igbos, buying out the most of it. Maybe this a good reason we dont want them ruling = to balance the effect?

The fact is that igbos have cornered the most critical parts of our nascent economy but i think they are unable to work together to harness that power, or maybe nigerias are not letting them lest they overrun us all?

Anyways I do feel sorry for the igbo bashing that will happen over the next coming weeks due to the capture of nmandi kanu which they do not all support. Atleast this article is to remind you guys that your people by nature are actually gaining the most from the nigerian Project unintentionally, you dont need to come and be president again neither do you need biafra, hope it consoles some of you, the facts stated here will further help divide southerners and increase igbo hate and those that want to perpertuate their control on all of us southerners continue to win.

Go home! You must go home! They operate like cartels and fix prices and try to intimidate others trying to do business. This is why they must go home. They want a country by fire by force they must have it by moving to their states let us have peace.

Most of the hate mongering is by this people, so is most of the crimes. We have protested advocating for them to go home to their own states. Go home!!!

Largest trade is in Kano mostly by northerners the trade there is second only to Lagos a former capital.

The Igbos are not wanted in communities because of their behaviour, cheating and lack of morals. There is not one state that wants them. So when they come online and abuse the betters that are feeding them we have only one answer. Go home.

You are very correct about Lekki / Ajah axis. It is the same at Gbagada, from Oshodi to Agbara. Most of those properties at Ajao Estate, Okota, Amuwo Odofin and up till Alaba and beyond to Agbara belong to the IBOS. I have been on this study for 9 years.

I will post extracts from Senator Abaribe's lecture delivered to the IBO elites in Mississippi, US early this month.

We know that. That is why we know Igbos cannot go home even when we want them to. It’s not only because of trade they can’t go home but because 1. They have no land and too many people for their small region 2. They will start killing themselves because anything for money 3. They are nothing if they are not trading in other people’s lands. That is why we call them the lost people forever wandering unable to live at home. 4. My only problem with this narrative is the monopoly of some of this guys, for example for you as a southerner to get into Ladipo or Alaba international as a big player is hard, you will never get the needed support,, even if you go to China for similar goods they will tell you some people have already signed agreement with them to buy all there goods exclusively as they produce.,,not fair
Re: How Igbo Traders Control Critical Sectors In 31 States, FCT by Nobody: 11:27am On Jun 30, 2021
This is my first extract from Senator Abaribe's lecture early this month in Mississippi, USA.

1970
We can situate our position today following the end of the civil war in 1970. Igbo's in 1970 were impoverished having lost an estimated 3 Million Igbo souls in the war, with a ruined and destroyed landscape and infrastructure. Every Igbo man/woman with savings in the banks before the outbreak of hostilities were pauperized as the military government decreed that one would only get 20 pounds notwithstanding the amount you had. The indigenization decree was passed in 1972 and no Igbo could participate since all had been reduced to penury.

2017
Today the Igbo have the largest pool of educated Nigerians. In 2007, Imo State had more subscribers to the JAMB UTME exams than the 19 Northern States put together. In 2017, 56% of of NYSC members are from the South East. Our feat in education means that we now have the army to win the war of competition in a market driven economy. Since 1999, the south east states have been the best in all exams.

The largest group of direct domestic investors in Nigeria are from the south east. Igbo investments in property in Abuja alone probably has more than any other ethnic group. We are the most travelled in Nigeria. In all parts of Nigeria after the indigenous population, Igbo's are the next largest group. We are the largest propertied class of all ethnic groups in Nigeria and despite all this confusion, we have grown the most economically since the inception of the current democracy in Nigeria. We have the richest and largest pool of Nigeria diaspora population.Taking an example of Lagos state, Ndigbo form a large proportion of the economy of the state. We created the following from nothing; Computer Village in Ikeja. Ladipo Spare Parts market. Alaba Electronic Market. Balogun Int'l Market. Balogun (Trade Fair) International Market. Aspamda market in Festac, Orile Market for house fittings & appliances etc.
All second hand clothing markets in Lagos. About 4 markets. The combined turnover daily of these markets run into billions daily. Lagos state benefits by collecting taxes and now its economy contributes 56% of all VAT collected in Nigeria. Above scenario is replicated in most big cities in Nigeria. Go to Kano, Port Harcourt, Benin City, Kaduna, Sokoto, not to talk of Abuja. Ndigbo are very large players in the economy of all parts of Nigeria. I will return to this.

They did this because they are not welcome in the civil service and man must chop.

They never got government grant to start their business and it's a open market (meaning if they were not solving a problem, no one would patronize them).

Now, if you reject them from the civil service, you want to take away their business but you refuse to let them go to start their own country, what the foooq is that?

Have u been to the east?

Do u know the funny thing? Igbos are in full control of their region's economy 100%. The same igbos have high stake in the economy of the other regions. That is one thing u must understand.

They are in tech, education, hospitality, health, Commerce, manufacturing, etc. Yorubs are actually the major ethnic group that actually beat igbos.

There is nothing wrong with South East. It is like every other region in Nigeria. Nothing special and nothing terrible. Nigeria as a while is messed up. And igbos are not the cause. The central govt of Nigeria controls Nigeria and it is mainly north and south west that have ruled the country from military till now. So, hold them accountable.

Your exegarated claim that igbos dominate trading and housing sector in 31 States of the federation is not tantamount to contoling Nigeria economy,if you can be sincere with yourselves. The little successes igbos have made in these areas are borne out shear effort and at great sacrificies of personal comfort. They are not financed by the federal govt or grants from international agencies. Even at that,is that why igbos should be excluded from any meaningful position in the public service ,federation agencies and parastatals. Denied federal projects and infrastructures since after the civil war. Pls, include save yourself those sermons. We the young generation of igbos have taken stock of injustices and superations perpetrated against us in this country and have decided to opt out of this unholy union. We consider ourselves victim of a grand conspiracy by the north and it's up co travellers. We have sounded it clearly that we want Biafra or nothing else. Biafra is a project so dear to our hearts and in which we have so much believe, that no oneone can intimidate or blackmail us.Going forward, igbos demand for referendum .

Things to observe,,,,,

Igbos did not kill to get those shops, businesses, land or landed properties. They acquired them with their sweat.

Igbos did not sack any village to make their money, they did not destroy anyone's farm to aquire their wealth.

Infact they pay the price for their success in many states. I remember when I used to help my brother in maiduguri for 9 years in his spare parts shop, we paid all type of tax be it local, government, state government, federal government and so many of such taxes.

But you know what we still succeeded and still succeed despite the odds.

The bottom line is that we know the truth in this country but decide to beat around the bush.

As far as there is injustice in this nation, there shall be agitations.

In 2018 I was in a place called kontagora in niger state...is one of the extreme end town of niger state bordering kebbi state. That place is local government of the present government of niger state abubakar Sani Bello! The biggest and only decent hotel called JAMAL is owned by an igbo man. Igbos has a settlement there called dadin kowa...they buy land and build decent houses there, built a big Catholic cathedral.. they control their local market, building materials, spare parts and other commerce in that place. Imagine doing this in far away kontagora in niger state! Is just a fact that these guys are controlling retail business in Nigeria even though the percentage may not be up to what the writer is putting up
Stop typing trash......Mr. Man I grew up in Kontagora, so how did Igbo dominante Knotagora economy? Last time I checked no market in Kontagora is dominated by Igbos both Old and New market so get your fact right, you talk about economy is it Igbos who dominate car sells, bakery, furnitures, Sawmills, Transportation, Engineering works, petty trades, restaurants, ECT

And talking about dadin kowa cheesy how many houses in that area belongs to Igbos for you to call it Igbo settlement infact there are more Yorubas in Dadin kowa than Igbos in fact. 80% of Igbos in that area are on rent not owners, and the Catholic Church there was not build by Igbos stop typing trash... Of all the areas we have in Kontagora only the barrack gate do we have Igbos owning 80% of the houses there, places like federal low cost, state low cost and samunaka has almost 80% of properties belonging to Yorubas.

Is Jamal the only hotel we have there? We have Winners guest in, Hanson hotel, Nafiu hotel, ect that are not owned by Igbos so Igbos do not dominate any economy in Kontagora get your facts right.

Bayelsa is even in Igbos doormat, the verified report is telling you that Igbos own almost such percent in far places like Abuja, Kano and Lagos, what other proof do we still need to know that Igbos are no ordinary people when it comes to handling economy? Let referendum be conducted and let Biafra happen, and let's see what magic that can be done in a landlocked South East.
