CharisEleos:Hmmm..... solution in a nutshell. Phonics is the foundation of reading.... master phonics to master reading. @ topic. Not surprising.... if raised in a family that speaks well... and are always around people who also speak well... you will automatically speak well... whether you are literate or not. I guess your friend is one such person. I'm almost sure his parents are responsible. Most likely....they used their influence to get him passing grades throughout school and continue to do so at this level. Age doesn't matter... he has to begin to learn from kindergarten level. He should know in this century.... being literate is a must. It is never too late to start. |

Don't just help by listing words and their spelling, he won't be able to remember all the spellings. In this very case you need take him back to the fundamental which include the 26 letter of the alphabet which comprises of the 5 vowels and 21 consonants, teach him the sound each vowel and consonant carries and how they are being combined to produce a unique sound or word. After this is done you can proceed to giving him example of words when combined by starting with two letter words then upgrade gradually to more letters word and also show him how to seperate letters when trying to pronounce complex letter words, example: mo-bi-li-za-tion, ca-me-ra, etc. Don't be in hurry, ensure he fully understand each step before proceedings to another step. If he is living in or could visit Akwa ibom state, I will personally volunteer to help him out at lease for a day. In my secondary school days, I've help 3 of my friends with similar problem. |

HenryDion:The fact still remains that, that guy needs help. There's no two way about it. And leaving him like that does not bring Nigeria into light ages. That's just it. Just encourage whoever is helping him that's it. |

Dyslexia and Dysgraphia are learning disabilities characterized by problems with writing and comprehension..It's a neurological disorder that can affect children or adults. In addition to writing words that are difficult to read...there are therapeutic methods and treatments for this that aids learning as some of them are even geniuses in their own right..but sadly we're in Nigeria so they're either deemed dullards or bewitched |

Man may have dyslexia. Although it's not like we have facilities readily available to diagnose this kind of thing in this country. Don't be surprised with how he was able to get this far. I used to find it hard to read throughout my primary school, that's how I hated the English subject and preferred maths. But I still managed to get into JSS. That's around the time my parents found and out and hired a lesson teacher specifically to teach me how to read. And it was around that same time coincidentally social media (2go) was trending in my school and that was largely responsible for accelerating my learning process as I needed to read and type to use it. Although to this day, I can't read a full paragraph out loud without stutter, and occasionally I write something, only to come back and discover a ton of typos. |

venatus25:Yeah that's the way. He needs to be taught to associate sounds, with the alphabet characters. And some of the anomalies in the English language, like how "ph" & "ugh" sounds like "f" Some of what I personally experienced difficulty with in the past. |

He needs a miracle. The word of God can correct all issues. All kinds of disorderliness. He needs what I called a confession therapy. Tell him to always make positive confession like. I have a sound mind, I can read and write. I have a teachable spirit. I can understand all things. I have knowledge, I know all things. I always remember what I read. Reading should come with meditation or reflection. He should try and be remembering what he has read time to time. He should memorize them and confess or speak those words out. The last thing he needs to be born again and be filled with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God can bring things into his remembrance. The changes will be sudden. That is the miracle that he needs. |
