Women want to enjoy the privileges that come with being adults without the responsibility and accountability. See, ladies, you have to either behave like adults and own up to your mistakes/poor choices or admit you are kids in adult's body and let us make the decisions for you, like how it's done centuries ago. Can't have it both ways.

That's the problem I've with modern day feminists - rights without responsibility - but as long as modern civilised and functioning societies were created and sustained by men yet Nigeria is West Africa's biggest sh!thole, it means the men not women have woefully failed their offsprings in enriching their lives and creating a functioning society for them to thrive. It's the duty of men to do so and this is backed by evolutionary studies and biological hormones.

Op is 100% correct on the fact that Nigerian men destroyed the country and we are where we are today, but he is very wrong on passing the blame of whoring and prostitution to men, the ratio of decent ladies to indecent ones is 60:40, the reason why people think the indecent ones are everywhere is because they are loud and show off their glits and glamour with the help of social media, these sets of ladies were not forced, they chose the fastest way to make money, it is a choice, they refuse to toil with their hands and work smart, do you want to say we dont have women suffering or finding things hard for them yet refused to sell their body? They abound everywhere in our society, pls nobody should be blamed for a person or a gender's choice of living, after all, there are also male prostitutes who are discreet about their way of life cos of shame, they were not forced at gunpoint.

There are women who have had to look for jobs yet are at the mercy of randy men who seek for their bodies before these jobs are given to them or even in school where male lecturers pester female students for sex in return for grades. Does this happen in other functioning societies? Yes, but there exist consequences for such men but in Nigeria, these men are being defended by fellow men and women (number is low here and smacks of Stockholm Syndrome) and the legal system is very dysfunctional aka Nigeria being a lawless place. Again, in functioning societies, it was men who built them not women so everyone thrives at the best of his/her ability. Regarding odd jobs, again, if the society was as prosperous as South Korea, such women would have had better options and rather than travel to Nigeria (as South Korean women) to "hustle" as the last resort, they would remain in South Korea unlike Nigerian women who flee the country through perilous conditions in the Sahara. Worse still, some of these women are being taken advantage by the men due to the ugly economic situation without consequences but this is at the barest minimum in functioning societies because there are legal consequences for those acts - legal system built to function by men and not the lawless situation Nigeria is in.

Also, the post about sexual chastity by Pansophist answers it all - if Nigerian men prize sexual chastity more than sexual freedom, the women would have integrated into it. But here we are where men don't prize sexual chastity and yet don't create the environment for economic prosperity.

Some half-truths and hasty generalizations here. In the countries you quoted prostitution still occur. Prostitution is not the result of poverty alone. China, UK, Japan, US, Australia and South Korea record some of the highest revenue from pornography and by extension prostitution (source: https://www.familysafe.com/pornography-statistics/). Yet these countries are advanced and according to you this must have been wrought by the men in those societies. Would you also conclude that the men in those societies are responsible for the prevalence of pornography and prostitution in those countries? Another half truth is the conclusion that men alone are the drivers of economic prosperity or doom. Well if this is true the wives of such men, for most of them are married, should also be rewarded or blamed for their role in economic success or their complacency or complicity in economic doom as the case may be

I am yet to find the developed country where men are not the drivers of economic prosperity either by founding more companies than women thereby creating jobs, heading institutions responsible for economic development or being at the table where the bucks stops. Again, men create the society, women integrate into it. It is the system men have built that women join not the other way round. It is akin to hypergamy - the women aspire/desire to date/marry men who are doing better than they (women) are - they integrate into that system the men have built.

While I agree that a lot of our male leaders have failed us but this does not lead to the conclusion that all men are failures - that is a hasty generalization - because though a few male political leaders have failed there are responsible fathers that have provide for their children and raise them to become successful and influential.

We should reflect deeply before rushing to post stuff!

Nigeria is a highly dysfunctional country and men not women since amalgamation have headed positions pivotal to the country's state of affairs. It is not a hasty generalisation as it is a fact. That you have pockets of responsible fathers raising functional children (who later flee to societies which were built by the vast vast majority of men) does not change it. Again, throughout histories, men were at the forefront for change in their countries leading to economic prosperity and functional states. On the other hand, Nigerian men have not done same and are at fault for failing to create such a society for their women.

We gave Diezani Allison a chance, she nearly killed us with Looting..
We gave Stella Oduah a chance, she bought 6 armoured cars running to billions for her protection alone..
The list are endless..
Women are worst horrible leaders..
Nonsense and feminism..

Bullcrap!

The vast majority of rulers in Nigeria have been men and the country has the following:

- More poor people than elsewhere globally
- Two out of the top four terror groups globally
- Second highest unemployment rate in the world.

Those women committed corrupt acts yet administrations upon administrations, it has been more men stealing more money than women. The country is totally unsafe even when men have headed security agencies since independence while there has been no elected female governor and the female percentage in the national assembly has been very low.

Nigerian men have failed their women, no ifs or buts.

The Nigerian government/men/economy failed us all, men and women, who are we to blame for men who sleep with females in top positions or CEOs? cos it is happening and will continue to happen,

Again you are sexualizing women, making is seem like women in Nigeria can't get by without the use of their body, it's wrong, as much as this happens, there will always be the option to succumb or not, yes as much as some pussy whipped men do the sex for good grades, job, money, affluence etc, there are also men with dignity who will never tow that line whether in getting good grades or jobs, it is only women who sees themselves as nothing or has low esteem, that think they can't get by without the help of selling their body, believe me if ladies decides to stand up for their right and uniformly say no to dubious sexual advances, I bet the foolish randy men will comport themselves, these nonsense started with just one man and a lady, either the lady offered herself to get the job or the grade, or the man asked and she accepted, there is always an option to refuse, always.

Our men are only really good on talking about sexual matters, and controlling women's toto. Even the thread is still all about policing women's toto and what they do with it.
If it has nothing to do with toto and monitoring women's bodies and choices, count Nigerian men out. Even in the national assembly, they discuss more passionately on issues which promotes child marriage compared to making sure all children get universal education.
cc Eyinjuege
I wish this weren’t true but sadly here we are.
The amount of energy we expend on policing morality ( people’s women’s choices) would power us through an industrial revolution of our own. But what could be more important than making sure women’s bodies are kept in the condition that caters to men’s egos? Healthcare? education? Basic safety? What about common electricity and good transportation? Mmm not as important.

You all that think that Nigerian men are only good at women matters, all I can say to you people is have a change of circle and try hangout with men who have a clearcut vision to their goals.
Right down to the illiterate men dominated sectors such as trading,I'm sure and know for a fact that you guys blabbing won't last a day competing with these men due to the kind of knowledge and systematics applied by these men to maintain dominance over market share and turnover .
You people expect Nigerian men to venture into manufacturing planes that companies like Mcdonnel Douglas and Boeing have been perfecting the business oven before Nigeria was formed? That will be stupidity and it is actually a strength for men here to avoid these sectors with such competition from giant, ancient corporations overseas with a lot of money and manpower to establish worldwide market dominance.
Nigerian men are doing great,I mean wonderful, atleast the ones I meet daily are,I don't know about most of you.
Did china become a world power today by venturing into tech and machinery initially?
How naive can some of you be?

I don't call all women names like hoes, cheats, useless, extortionate, etc because I know better.
I have meet ,been with, and actually grown by having some women as role models and is yet to achieve what some of them have.
So I mostly ignore some of these people generalising because I know it is borne out of their localities and environment.
But having supposed people who should know better saying things like this is a huge disappointment, especially cococandy who is in the US seeing what Nigerian men are doing there and even here, with you as an example probably working for an organisation owned and built by a Nigerian man/men.
The largest single owned refinery in the world is currently being built by a Nigerian man for starters, let alone other sectors too numerous to mention, especially banking.
You all are tripping tbh..

Yes, the "noise" surrounds politics became it affects everything from security to economic prosperity to education to even foreign affairs. If a country's politicians are incompetent, no matter how resourceful individual citizens will be/are (Lebanon), the country will be dysfunctional and a failed state. So politics cannot be sidestepped because some Nigerian men are "doing well".

If Nigerian men are doing well, the country wouldn't have two out of top four global terror groups in the country with one even creating a her government. Because some Nigerian men work in oil companies or tech firms earning good salaries doesn't mean Nigerian men are doing well. If men are meant to be the providers in the family, why should it be different in nation building? Fulani herdsmen intentionally kill the young men across ethnic minorities' groups (all of whom are Christians) in the north because those men would be the ones to defend their lands, why should it be different in nation building? Check it, they don't kill the women but strictly the men. There is a reason for that.

First separate black men from back men first.
Because not all whites are smart,a huge chunk of them are very daft too.
So we can't say whites built the world or a superior race,no no!
Rather some smart men of that origin built the civilisation we know today,as well as some people of African origin who also invented some methods and things we use today as well.
So it's a men vs men thing, not race or ancestry.

Somebody please tell OP that incompetence and inneptitude knows no gender, matter of fact the typical Nigerian woman[public office holder] you are trying hard to defend is equally as corrupt if not more than her male counterpart. The likes of Diezani, Stella Oduah, Patricia etteh and so on were a case in point. however, in my opinion building a prosperous society comes down to leadership and good governance nothing to do with gender as you erroneously implied. I doubt you were thinking properly while typing this crap.

Sequel to the above thread, it shows the severity of poverty in Nigeria which cuts across all geopolitical zones (Nigeria is not the world’s poverty capital for nothing). However, for Nigerian women to indulge in prostitution as a means to eat/survive, it tells us one thing – Nigerian men have failed their women.

All over the developed world, it is the men not women who made those societies what they are. Whether South Korea, Malaysia, Uruguay, Singapore, Canada etc., the men made them work. Meanwhile, Nigeria – most populous Black Country globally – has her women selling their bodies for basic items such as what to eat and where to sleep. I would not delve into this malaise as a racial one as I do not know how it is for black women in Kenya, Angola, Brazil or the US but the quality of life women enjoy depend on the level of sophistication their men have built their societies into. This is something Nigerian men have failed at and specifically, those above 40 years. These men failed, woefully, to create a society that is functioning, orderly, prosperous, safe and enjoyable for their women. Even for societies that are adjudged as not gender friendly for women (South Korea, UAE and Japan), their women live way more prosperous lives than their Nigerian counterparts.

We have many Nigerian women trading their bodies in Italy, the UAE and parts of Europe but we don’t have similar or even half the proportion of European ladies doing same in Nigeria. How many Italian women have you see in Allen Avenue or any red-light district in Nigeria? How many South Korean women have you seen selling their bodies in Nigeria? How many Singaporean ladies have you seen/read travel to Nigeria to “hustle”? I am an ardent reader of Singaporean news and not once have I read that Singaporean ladies sell their bodies to pay school fees, to eat or get a job but these things are rampant in Nigeria because unlike Singapore where the likes of Lee Kuan Yew and Co built a prosperous society for them to thrive, Nigerian men of same generation ruined the country. Worse still, their successors exacerbated these issues through wanton corruption and rife ethnic bigotry compared to Lee’s successors who doubled down on his achievements by diversifying Singapore’s economy thereby generating more jobs for their citizens. Same in Japan where women constitute a larger proportion of luxury goods’ consumers because their men have created a prosperous place for them to be able to afford those products. Women of the world's poverty capital can only dream of being major consumers of luxury goods.

@Gerrard59 did you consult ur thinking faculty @ all before posting these gibberish ... your objective reason why nigerian have failed is cos of prostitution. the oldest profession in the world, like are you okay
In america, britian, china & other developed countries do we not see women sell there bodies ... what could possibly be there reason if not to eat and survive.
How can a british or america citizen leave a develop world nd cumma n hustle prostitution in a 3rd world war country ... are you a robot or sumtin, when you seek greener pasture do you migrate from cultivated land to a dry land ... can we also ignore the threats of insecurities, you wey be nigerian can you 50% boast of being secured.
You claim japan men created a place how about naija men created a feeding spoon, do you know how many naija women that are living a flabouyant life courtesy of being a Mrs or someone's babe, setting the record straight no race of men lavishes money on women like naija men. zuckerberg won't do have of the spending ordinary small doctor do on gurls
I don't want to run into epistle, if you insist nigeria do not give our women enough opportunities how about those advance countries that has provided opportunities on equal ground ... did it stop prostitution.

I am sure it was the whites you ate worshipping now that discovered that one can use straws to mix with clay for strength which was one of the most important material that was used in building ancient cities like timbuktu ,songhai ,and even our own sokoto.
Also try and found out who Lewis Latimer was who worked with Edison, perfected ,practicalities and patent the light bulb technology and later sold its patent to a central electric Company . Can't remember the name.
Do you know that the straw technology is what was copied and replaced today by rods ?
We all saw how Same Americans who are very rich were queuing up for food and basic supplies during covid and were looting carelessly during george floyd saga.
Your darling whites had already run out of money and couldn't afford tissue paper anymore.
Let me educate you on why whites seem to be better and developed than us.
Currency pegging is the cause .Because currencies of sub saharan countries are pegged to the dollar, banks can't give longterm loans for mortgages because of currency volatility.
Now I would have said we should ban all finished products importation into Nigeria, but it is still people like you that will protest and be making nuisance on roads.
Dude learn to speak for yourself,If you are poor,i am not and hence can't relate to most of the things you are saying ,calling us very very poor people smh...you are mad!!
The reason Dubai banned Nigerians from their country is because some migrants of Nigerian origin go there to commit crime and fraud, and since they can't identify which is which, they decide to ban all Nigerians flying into dubai from Nigeria access to their country because they believe most of these criminal minded and desperate people can't afford to use transit countries to access Dubai, not because Nigerians are very poor and can't afford Dubai.
Get your facts right.

The women who have held positions pivotal to Nigeria's development are infinitesimal compared to the number of men. The final buck stops at the table which a man controls. Okonjo Iweala had Jonathan while Zainab Ahmed has Buhari.

cc: Zooposki

Are you saying that if men should take a backseat and women take charge that things will be different?

Because from the handful of examples (however small) I've seen, it's still same result.

They are the same when you compare it ratio to ratio.

My argument with you is not that Nigerian men have not failed, but Nigerian women given the chance will still yield the same outcome.

Off the top of my head, some of the problems that brought Nigeria to this state;

Uncontrolled birthrate

Ethnocentrism/tribalism

Nepotism

Religion

Voting in leaders based on sentiments and so many more.

Will you honestly look at these reasons and tell me that men are the only gender responsible for the above highlighted?

Your darling daddy Buhari made us the poverty capital of the world: remember both men/women campaigned for him, both men/women voted him. grin

I'd appreciate you tackle this issue from the very foundation and stop gendering this issue.

Are women things or humans? If women are humans that play a significant role in shaping the behaviour of men then it would be utterly wrong to assert that men are solely responsible for economic boom or doom...even in biblical times, women played major roles in shaping the behavior of men, their husbands or their lovers. Eve, Sarah, Manoah's wife, Deborah, Jezebel, Solomon's wives, Huldah, Esther, Athaliah, Jael, Rebecca, Jochebed, Mary (mother of Jesus), Mary Magdalene, Potiphar's wife, Pontus Pilate's wife, etc...I could go and on the produce the names of women who in the patriarchal times of the bible went on to shape the decisions of men for good or for evil! This is why I refuse to agree with the proposition that men are the sole drivers of economic doom or boom which is neither supported by a critical review of history or by commonsense!

Add a qualification to your statement to make it more generalizable. If you had said all of Nigeria's political leaders, who happen to be male, are failures, that would have made sense but saying that all Nigerian men are failures is wrong, indefensible, uneducated and sensational! The mere fact that we have Nigerians all over the world solving global problems disproves the generalization you propose.

You have some nerve though. Being disappointed in me for saying men should take responsibility for the society they created. That’s after all the misogynistic stuff you post on this forum. Are you trying to dissociate yourself from other guys because they use the words such as hoes and useless? That makes your own misogyny different?

Anyway that being said. Nigerian Men and women do very well outside of the country because they live in a society that provides the infrastructure for success. There’s no argument here because this topic is not calling out individual men. It’s saying that you guys as a whole, are collectively responsible for the way we have failed as a state. That’s not up for debate.

What’s up for debate is whether men need to step back and let more women lead. I say this often but gaslighters will attempt to make it sound like I want free passes for women. Nope. For a society where men have violently held onto power, women cannot really rise unless those men step back and give ground. It’s not the same as men handing things freely to women. It’s recognizing the unfair imbalance of power they hold and knowing that since they are the ones operating the system, the solution will have to involve them.

SeaTrade:

Off the top of my head, some of the problems that brought Nigeria to this state;

Boss, your post makes the most sense on this thread; most other people are just looking at things from a gender-biased lens.
Each Nigerian should be more concerned about how they contribute personally to the problems bedevelling the country as mentioned in your post and how each can correct their own errors instead of making nonsensical gender blames.

If your civilization is shit, your men are either weak, stupid, or both.

It's that simple.

Stupid men can't build anything, and weak men can't maintain anything.

Your write up above looks culled. Correct me if I’m wrong though.

Yet to mention one developed society where women were at the forefront of economic growth and nation building. Just one, it is not that hard.

Largely in societies built by men of those places. The basis for this thread is not on individual men but collectively? The vast majority of Nigerian men have failed in building a functioning society as ALL functioning societies globally were created by men. It is men who push for radical change in a society, so if Nigerian men prefer to siddon look and/or flee to other societies built by those men, then they should categorised as failures.

Guess why they are able to function in those other societies? Because it’s equipped to work well.
And why does our society not work?

]Currency pegging is the cause .Because currencies of sub saharan countries are pegged to the dollar, banks can't give longterm loans for mortgages because of currency volatility.

Yeah, it is not depending on a product you don't control the price for 80% of national revenues but na pegging as if the Hong Kong dollar is not pegged or the South Korean Won is not artificially devalued to boost exports or the Bank of Japan does not continually interfere with exchange rates to boost exports. He said na pEgGiNg

Now I would have said we should ban all finished products importation into Nigeria, but it is still people like you that will protest and be making nuisance on roads.

Buhari, who I won't be surprised you campaigned and voted for in 2015, has been doing same for almost seven years and Nigerians got poorer than ever before and had economic growth reduced to that of 2010 even though the population has increased.

Dude learn to speak for yourself,If you are poor,i am not and hence can't relate to most of the things you are saying ,calling us very very poor people smh...you are mad!!

You are a citizen of the world's poverty capital, because you live in say Lekki drinking soakaway water or sniffing soot filled oxygen in PH does not make you a rich person. By global standards, you are a poor person. It is a fact and does not care about your feelings.

If Nigerians were as rich as South Koreans, the Emiratis would not have banned Nigerians. But as poor people, they know it has no economic consequences to them. It is why the strength of the Nigerian passport has plummeted from 70+ countries to 46 within the past ten years. No one gives visa free privileges to poor people

Your comment is spot on.
I see it this way -

Hard times begets strong men

Strong men build safe and prosperous society

Flourishing society in turn beget soft/weak men.

It’s a vicious circle of cause & effects.
