Age is not the issue but you are. Let's say I want to employ you now, what skills do you have? At 33 you should have completed your HND okay lets say poverty and family issues but there are people who became an orphans at 22 and still got HND and BSC and even MSC.

So really valid excuse.

There's hope for everyone, plenty hope!

It's a bit disconcerting that tourism doesn't thrive in Nigeria, but leisure does...at least you must have heard about Obi cubana and his chief priests this past week ....just kidding.

But really, depending on your natural abilities, you could do well in events management, catering, hotel management, rentals, barman, or abroad tourism agent, all which are related to your course of study and booming in Nigeria regardless of economy. It might take a little working out out of the box, so don't expect suit and briefcase interview, you should go out there, talk to people, meet people who are into what you'd like to do....and if you're not interested in the leisure industry, you can apply same formula in that which you're interested.

If I may ask, what have you been into before now, before or after your ND since you haven't worked before?

I had a serious health crisis around 2010. That episode almost broke me but I survived. I was studying civil engineering then.
It was after i got better in '13 that I was able to go back to school and get this diploma. In between, I tried mini importation, phone unlocking .
Right now ,I work as a prepaid meter installer

1month after I made this post,I got a contract job. I realized my future depends on the seed I sow today,how I tend and water it to grow.

We are a licensed company tasked with responsibility of metering homes and businesses around the nation in the ongoing National Mass Metering Project (Nmmp).

One's degrees is actually not a determinant of future success or failure, esp in Nigeria. Wole Soyinka had a 3rd Class, most of the people in NASS are probably dropouts or people who were rusticated or do not even have any university degrees, yet they make laws for you. During the trying times, I discarded pride, entered street and worked any work.....I worked in bet9ja shop for 2yrs, cleaner in union bank for 3 month b4 i was posted to NBC Coca-cola, Ikeja for 2yrs(contract staff).

The hustle has not been easy but we need to survive.....currently a civil servant but that's not my last bus-stop, I have plans....they say; if u want to build a wall, you should start from a brick, with time you'll build the wall.

Yours is very touching bro, but you are not married at 40? No child?

Please do something fast because there's no time. At 70 nobody is supposed to be in any active job because the body becomes weaker. So many of us find ourselves in similar situations with some of these people coming to share their life challenges on nairaland.

How do you know there is no hope for him?
His course of study is related strictly to the hospitality industry and that is exactly were his certificate would be valuable. For example SSCE holders working as waiters in most 3 star hotels earn above 60k if service charge is added. Supervisors in 3 star hotels earn above 90k if service charge is added.
Departmental managers end above 150k in standard 3 star hotels and above.
General Managers earn from 200k-1m and above depending on the type of hotel (3-5star).
Since he has no experience in the hotel sector then he definitely has to start at the lower level e.g waiter, barman, potter, or housekeeper then begin to build his career. Before he hits 40years he could be a general manager(if he knows the job) and if he add some hospitality certification to his CV.
But hospitality work no easy ooh.
