Also Federal high court in rivers state has given the VAT tax power to the states which I expects our governors to take advantage and get to work..

Great for the governors, but I suspect the ruling will be challenged at the supreme court.

It will be completed whichever way. It's NDDC financed.

I hope so; the project is to be jointly funded by the NDDC and ODSG. The governor would
have to lobby hard to ensure it is not delayed.

If you have a chance, please read this story about Fiam wifi in Lagos created by Akin Marinho.

He is deploying hot spots in Lagos at cheaper prices. Odua group can partner with him and deploy
this throughout the SW, especially the university campuses, towns/cities. This is the type of initiative
they should be embarking on. There is millions of US$ to be made because there is huge demand.

They are engaged in large scale farming now; they purchased 1,200 hectares of land in Ogun State and have partnered with an
Agro firm for consulting - Niji Farms Group. This is long overdue.

It is one of the wisest adages; unfortunately, it is not always put into action.

It is time to put it into action. What about the farm settlements they inherited from old western region. And some of our regional properties that are now with federal government. With the right legal backing and lobbying we should able to get them back and make it use of it properly for societal and economic development because those properties are being mismanaged by the FG and now the shadow of itself. And the need to go full scale in Agriculture by meeting with our local farmers and work hand in hands.

This will go a long way helping us create a smart economy and also bringing in our graduates in IT can solve other problems that can or maybe facing the region in terms of internet connection and information technology.

And Odua group need to go grassroot to be able to achieve a lot carry everyone along that way they will be able institutionalized our society and have the market to ourselves not let foreigners impoverish our people all in guise of bad economic. If they rooted to the grassroot it will speed up development and aide our indigenous innovations and industrialization.

Our state governments need to come together and work with Odua group so we can have sufficient electricity as a region for commercial, industrial and residential use. There is no law that go against states generating their own electricity which I believe can be achievable with several scientific and technoloical innovations most especially for residential use.

Makinde inspects on-going Akobo flyover, Lekan Salami Stadium, Ajia-Airport-Ife Expressway projects

…says govt ‘ll continue to improve sport facilities to empower youths, develop Oyo economy

Oyo State governor, ’Seyi Makinde, on Friday, inspected on-going infrastructure projects in Ibadan, including the Akobo-General Gas Flyover, the 21-kilometer Ajia-Airport-New Ife Expressway road, with spur to Amuloko and the Lekan Salami Sport Complex remodeling project.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the quality of the works being done by the contractors, saying that he was excited with the pace of work done so far.
He added that the scope of the projects has been well covered, while the schedule is being followed.

Speaking with newsmen at the Lekan Salami Sport Complex, Adamasingba, shortly after inspecting the projects, the governor said that his administration will continue to improve sport facilities in the state to empower youths and develop the economy.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the Lekan Salami Sport Complex has been upgraded to FIFA standard, with four world class Changing Rooms, capacity for 25 players and Wet Areas with capacity for 11 players at a time.

Others were the Doping Control Room, Clinic, Referee's Room, Match Officials Room and a Youth Centre/Ball Boys Rooms.
The statement added that the stadium has also, in line with FIFA requirement, been equipped with state-of-the-art Studio, including CCTV facilities that can monitor five kilometre radius of the stadium and also the Ibadan Airport, as well as world class gadgets that will enable the linking of the stadium to a minimum of four stadia.

The statement also noted a new training pitch, a multipurpose hall for Basketball, Volleyball and Handball, a new Squash Hall and a 50 by 30 Metres Multipurpose Hall completed with a centre court, for gymnasium, boxing, judo, kickboxing will also be delivered at the facility.
In his speech, Governor Makinde said: "Well, I will say so far, so good, the scope is well covered and we have made quite some progress. Also, the schedule is being followed.
"I will say I am excited and I look forward to the official opening, which has now been pushed to the 1st of September. I also look forward to seeing our darling team, Shooting Stars, beat the foreign Team.

"When I was campaigning, people asked me questions about job opportunities for our youths and I said discovering sporting talents is one way of engaging our youths. And this is one of such projects that can enable us to achieve that.
"Also, we want to be on the map internationally by hosting international sporting events, not just football. We have seen the centre courts for the Tennis, Swimming Pool project and the facilities for volleyball, boxing, kick-boxing and the rest."

The governor promised to utilise sports to develop the economy of the state, saying: "So, we want to utilise sports to also develop our economy. We want to keep coming here every week by God's grace to watch Shooting Stars play in the National Premiership League and to also play competitions in Africa.
“We also want Shooting Stars to go on and play the World Club Cup competition, which I know is not beyond us.

"We have to bring development to our people, to our city and our state. That was why we were elected in the first place.
"Some of those projects should be nearing completion right now. We wanted to check and be sure that, indeed, what we have on ground matches the report I have been getting. And I can tell you that I am quite impressed with the contractor.”

Makinde receives NASS joint Committee on Aviation

…urges FG to uplift Ibadan Airport

…says Oyo willing to apply for takeover

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Thursday, asked the Federal Government to take necessary steps to uplift the standard of the Ibadan Airport, declaring that making Ibadan a regional airport will benefit the state and the national economy.

The governor, who stated this while hosting the Joint National Assembly Committee on Aviation, led to his office by the Chairman Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Smart Adeyemi, said, however, that the state government has commissioned a study that clearly showed that a Public, Private Partnership arrangement would fast-track the planned upgrading of the airport to international standard.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, further quoted the governor as saying that the state was willing to lead the charge to turnaround the airport if the Federal Government would agree to hand it over.

He noted that the Ibadan Airport should readily serve as the alternate airport to Lagos, adding that instead of diverting international flights to Accra, Ghana, Ibadan would serve Nigeria better.

While enumerating possible benefits of the Ibadan airport if upgraded, Governor Makinde explained various efforts of his administration aimed at improving the standards of the airport, including the rehabilitation of adjoining roads as well as provision of basic facilities at the airport.

He called on the Federal Government to do more by collaborating with the state in its resolve to uplift the airport.
According to him, an upgraded Ibadan airport would not only impact on the state's economy by expanding its business districts, the country would also benefit as the nation grapples to grow its non-oil economy.

"You can see the calibre of people here today. This tells us how important the issue of Ibadan Airport is to us. The airport, ideally, should be the alternate airport to Lagos. So, we think if Ibadan is fixed properly, it will take away all those headaches of having to go to Ghana.

"As a government in Oyo State, we have been trying our best to do our own bit and, as a matter of fact, we have already started the process of upgrading the Ibadan Airport. We have commissioned a study to look at the airport; to look at those things we should upgrade. We know for a fact that the runway right now is 2400m/45metres and they said if we want to make it standard, it should go to 3.3km/60 metres. Even the parking area is about 25,200 square metres and we should actually push that to 76,500 to be able to accommodate wide-body aircraft. So, we are looking at the instrument landing system and the airport lighting system.

"We are in anticipation of this upgrade and we know it will happen. I have actually visited the Vice President and the Minister of Aviation. The distinguished senator said that some other governors who have spent their money building airports are coming to see how they can hand it over, but it is the reverse for us.
"We are thinking of how to take over the airport because the model is not to use the state’s funds per se, but to do a public-private partnership, where the state will join up with experts in the field and people with investable money, and we will take over that airport; do all the expansion and see if we can turn it into an international airport. Even if we don't focus on other places around the world, we can focus on the region.

"If we have regional flight, we will probably see a lot of people fly into Ibadan from West Africa mostly. So, we have been doing our own bit.
"We just signed an MoU with KOPEC to fix the road from Iwo Road junction all the way to Alakia. It is a federal road and has been awarded by the Federal Government but not funded at this point. And we said we will provide the fund because it is our people that ply the road. So, we will fund it and any day the Federal Government decides to refund, we will get it back.
"In the early life of this administration, we awarded the road from the airport through Ajia, with a spur to Amuloko. What that will do for us is, people coming from Ile-Ife and Ogun State can have access to the airport without going into the city and the work is close to 60 per cent level of completion right now. The previous administration also awarded Beere-Akanra-Dagbolu road and we are continuing with that project. And what that does for us is, if you are coming from Ijebu-Igbo and you want to fly through Ibadan, it is almost 30 minutes drive to the airport. So, with that, the Ibadan Airport is not only going to serve the Ibadan people but other adjoining states.

"Some of the things we have noticed are not available at the airport, we have started fixing them. We have awarded a contract to BOVAS to put in a storage and dispensing facility. We have asked for a new protocol lounge and it is almost done. We have also provided a fire tender for the airport.
"We have put in our money and we will still continue to do more because the airport for us, economically, is a link to the Oluyole Industrial park and pacesetter industrial area and our central business district. Now, it is being moved to Moniya because that is where we have the rail corridor and dry port. The airport is really central to the economic development of our state.”

The governor also said that an upgraded Ibadan airport would help improve the state’s economy beyond oil. He stated that the state would be able to develop its solid minerals deposits including some of the best tourist sites like the hanging lake at Ado-Awaye and the Ikere Gorge Dam.

He added that since the Federal Government was already thinking of concessioning the airports in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Kano, it could as well cede the Ibadan Airport to Oyo on a PPP.

While speaking, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Adeyemi commended Governor Makinde’s vision, which he said is helping to turn around the state’s economy.
Ha said that the committee already observed encroachment on the airport land and the need to enhance safety of the airport and upgrade its equipment.

He said: "We equally observed that there is need for extension of the run-way to meet up with international standard; again, the runway is calling for attention. So our coming here today is an eye opener to some of the situations that require urgent attention.
"As the legislature our duty is to call the attention of the executive to areas where they need to provide funding on one hand.
"Our duty is to make sure that we allow the executive to see areas where there is need for them to provide funding.”

Also speaking, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, also stressed the economic importance of upgrading the nation's airports, particularly as an alternative to road transportation due to prevailing challenges of insecurity.

The delegation afterwards undertook an assessment tour of the Ibadan airport to evaluate its concerns.

LASUBEB, ARTSWAX UNVEIL EKO POEMS

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), in collaboration with Artswax Communications, recently launched, “Eko Poems: An anthology of Nursery Rhymes”.

Speaking at the book launch in LASUBEB Multipurpose Hall, Maryland Ikeja, the Executive Chairman LASUBEB, Mr. Wahab Alawiye-King, disclosed that the book comprised collections of best selected poems written by the pupils of public primary schools in Lagos State.

He noted that the government created a platform with the theme, “My Lagos, The Today, The Tomorrow”, for pupils to express themselves through writing, adding that the idea is part of the State’s efforts in fostering creative thinking among pupils.

The Chairman noted that the era of nursery rhymes that depict foreign distinctions are gradually fading out, stating that the initiative has challenged the children to reflect on the society with its values and the character of people around them.

“I am elated at the final outcome of the initiative, which undoubtedly opens up the minds of our young ones to literary expressions”, he said.

Alawiye-King commended the Board’s partners on Eko poems for their immense contributions towards the success of the project, just as he equally congratulated the outstanding young poets of public primary schools in Lagos for making the historic event possible and encouraged them to continue to express themselves with their pens.

The initiator of Eko Poems and Director of Artswax Communications, Ola Awakan, revealed that the emotional outburst of the innocent young minds is exemplified in the book.

He, thereafter, called for corporate social support in achieving the first Eko Nursery Rhymes App with poems extracted from the anthology.

Recall that 'Eko Poems' was flagged off at the maiden edition of Primary Schools Poetry Festival in January last year. Over 300 pupils of State primary schools participated in the poetry competition at the end of which 63 poems were selected and documented into a book for future reference after the preliminaries.

LAGOS LAUDS MODULAR HEALTHCARE FACILITY INNOVATION

… To Partner Organisation on Improved Access To Health

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has described the Modular Healthcare Facility (MHF), recently launched by Alpha Mead Healthcare Management Services (AMHS), as an exciting innovation that will boost access to healthcare in Nigeria.

Speaking to journalists after the inspection and walkthrough of the MHF at the Gbagada General Hospital, the Commissioner said: "It's innovative; nice. It's well organised and clean. It has a robust array of facilities within it and can be used in specific locations. I'm happy to see it's an indigenous product; it has all the required technical backdrops. It's also energy conscious. It's mobile".

The Commissioner also expressed the government's willingness to collaborate with AMHS to deploy the facility, noting that the modular facility will be handy in interim and stop-gap situations where the government has not erected physical structures.

“I can see opportunities here", Prof. Abayomi said

Briefing the Commissioner before the walkthrough of the facility, Engr. Femi Akintunde, Group Managing Director, Alpha Mead Group, the parent company of AMHS, disclosed how the company came by the exciting innovation and its benefits.

He explained that Alpha Mead was inspired by the need to take quality healthcare facilities to all Nigerians and reduce the construction timeline of a healthcare facility to less than 30 days, saving the time lost to design, construction, equipment installation and commissioning of regular brick and mortar healthcare facilities.

In his words: “The MHF, is a fully-equipped healthcare facility that can be built and operational within 30 days. It is a prefabricated, customisable, and transportable portacabin with installed medical equipment and healthcare technology applications that can be set on wheels, coupled together, and start operations in a few days”.

“The MHF is equipped with Radiology Information System, Picture Archiving Communication System (RISPACS), Enterprise Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Telehealth infrastructure for real-time reporting of investigation and remote consultation”, the GMD added.

Akintunde further explained that the MHF is not a replacement for hospitals but designed to complement gaps in healthcare, especially leverage its mobility feature.

The GMD thanked the State Government for allowing the company to set up the facility at the Gbagada General Hospital, disclosing that the MHF leverages technology to connect patients with medical doctors anywhere, through its telemedicine facilities.

On his part, Managing Director, AMHS, Mr. Kunle Omidiora, said the facility is coming to bridge the widening gap in access to quality healthcare in Nigeria, saying “From whatever lens one chooses to view the challenges with the healthcare sector in Nigeria today; whether financial, personnel, equipment, systems or technologies; the biggest challenge with Nigeria’s healthcare sector is that of access to quality healthcare”.

“This challenge is costing our nation a great deal. For example, a USAID report said that Nigeria shoulders up to 10% of the global disease burden. The report noted further that this situation is caused by a lack of access to quality healthcare facilities and workers, particularly in the rural areas”, he added.

He further stated that the challenge can be put in context when squared against 2019 data from Nigeria Health Facility Register (NHFR).

“According to the report, Nigeria has 40,345 registered hospitals and clinics to serve the 201 million population. This simply implies that one healthcare facility is responsible for an estimated five million Nigerians”, Omidiora stated.

MASS LITERACY: LASG EMBARKS ON ENLIGHTENMENT CAMPAIGN TO EDUCATE RESIDENTS OF AGBOJU

… Says Mass Literacy Crucial to Achieving T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda

The Lagos Government has embarked on a massive public enlightenment campaign as part of efforts to educate, inform and entice residents, especially those that have dropped out of school, on the need to go back and complete their education for a better future.

Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Education, Barrister Tokunbo Wahab, who disclosed during a sensitisation programme in Agboju, Amuwo Odofin Local Government, said the exercise was aimed at sensitising the residents on the need to re-enrol their wards, especially their girl-child, who may have dropped out of the school system for any reason.

He said the State Government is determined to ensure that residents take advantage of the alternative school system of the present administration to re-enrol themselves for secondary education and learn a vocation that would make them become entrepreneurs.

Wahab explained that the administration of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is committed to increasing the literacy level and growing young entrepreneurs, who will be self-sufficient and contribute to the growth of the economy of the State.

The Special Adviser, who was represented at the event by the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Alternative High School for Girls, Agboju, Mrs. Funmilola Olajide, stated that education remained a strong weapon to fight poverty and ignorance anywhere in the world.

He emphasised that the vision for a new Lagos through education and technology can only be achieved when residents are well-educated and enlightened, pointing out that there is no age barrier to acquiring knowledge.

Wahab, therefore, urged market women and housewives who narrowly missed education early in life to take advantage of the Mass Literacy policy of the State Government to enrol for secondary education at the Alternative High School for Girls at Agboju or register to learn any vocation of their choice at any of the nine vocational training centres located across the State.

He said the State Government would assist the graduates with soft loans, through the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), disclosing that plans are afoot to build five new alternative schools in order to have them in the six administrative divisions of Lagos.

Wahab explained that the Alternative High School for Girls, Agboju, was established to provide education for female dropouts and the opportunity to acquire vocational skills that would make them self-reliant while learning.

LAGOS INAUGURATES TASK FORCE ON VETERINARY PRACTICE

The Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, has inaugurated an 11-man Task Force on Veterinary Practice Premises in furtherance of its Red Meat Value Chain Transformation Agenda, just as she received the working team from the Veterinary Council of Nigeria.

Ms. Olusanya explained that the Task Force is expected to inspect, register and license veterinary premises that meet set requirements, stressing that the government has given greater priority to the development of the Red Meat Value Chain through animal traceability, reactivation of control posts and quarantine at entry points in the State.

The Commissioner solicited the support and co-operation of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria towards the success of the State’s Red Meat Value Chain Transformation Agenda, adding that the veterinary services directorate has a very critical role to play in the process.

In her words: “I am delighted to welcome the team from the Veterinary Council of Nigeria to Lagos State, to the flag-off of the Task Force on the State Veterinary Practice Premises. The Task Force is expected to inspect, register and license veterinary premises that meet set requirements and the aim is to have premises with the right sets of professionals that will render quality services to the citizenry”.

She pointed out that the State Government had already put in place a standing Committee, which derives its power from the Veterinary Premises Authority Act of 1978, to aid the smooth operation and activities of the Task Force.

Olusanya stated that the Committee had been able to officially renew and update the registration status of 30 Veterinary clinics, 55 Veterinary pharmacies and six veterinary pharmaceutical companies in the Year 2020, through the Lagos State Private Veterinary Premises Registration Authority (PVPRA), adding that this was made possible by the synergy between State Veterinary Department and the Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Lagos.

She said, “As a result of this, we have been able to maintain an acceptable standard of veterinary service delivery amongst private practitioners; maintain a strong and growing impact on anti-quackery and sharp practices in veterinary services delivery in Lagos State; upgrade and rehabilitate our Veterinary clinics at Ajah, Ikorodu and Badagry; equip and furnish our Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Agege with reagents, chemicals and diagnostic kits to aid the extent and scope of service at the laboratory as a referral Veterinary Laboratory; as well as procure Veterinary Ambulance/Mobile Veterinary Clinic".

Earlier, the President, Veterinary Council of Nigeria, AIG (Dr.) Aishatu Baju, noted that Lagos State remains very strategic in the livestock industry in Nigeria as it holds the highest number of private veterinary premises and related industries in the country.

Dr. Baju commended Lagos State for supporting the livestock industry over the years and solicited for improvement, disclosing that the Veterinary Council of Nigeria is in the process of digitalising and geo-mapping of all Veterinary practices across the country.

She called on all unregistered and illegal Veterinary outfits in the entire nation to register with their various State committees within the next 60 days or face the full wrath of the law.

Members of the Task Force are Dr. Rasheed Macaulay (Chairman); DCP Idris Nagoyo; Dr. Idris Adegboyega; Dr. Ayokunle Omileye; Dr. (Mrs.) Mary Ogunleye; Dr. Olufemi Aroso; Dr. Mobolaji Alao; Dr. Funmilayo Alao; Dr. (Mrs.) Helen Oputa-Chime; Dr. Sunday Adigun and Mr. Oluwaseyi Ogbe.

WE ARE COMMITTED TO MAKING ONDO AMONG FOOD BASKETS OF THE NATION - GOV AKEREDOLU

•Commissions 18 Units Of SEM-919 Motor Grader

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has said the state can be among the food baskets in the country if its potentials are fully harnessed.

Governor Akeredolu spoke on Thursday during the commissioning of 18 units of SEM-919 Motor Grader for the use of the 18 Local Government Councils in the State.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa; Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun; Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale; Special Adviser to Governor on Union Matters and Special Duties, Mr. Dare Aragbaiye; Commissioner for information and Orientation, Mr. Donald Ojogo, other members of the state executive council; APC leaders, all the 18 local government chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, top government officials among several other dignitaries.

The Governor said one of his administration's policy thrusts encapsulated in the REDEEMED Agenda is Rural and Agricultural Development.

He added that meaningful development can only be achieved in the rural areas when adequate infrastructure is put in place.

“Infrastructure is, therefore, the bedrock of development of any society. Essentially, rural infrastructure encompasses among others, rural roads, water supply and electricity.

“Ondo State, no doubt, is an agrarian society. Our belief, therefore, is that if our potential is adequately harnessed, the State can be among the food baskets in the country.

"This informed our decision to make rural and agricultural development as well as provision of massive infrastructure part of our key programmes. Since the inception of our administration in 2017, tremendous efforts have been made in areas of provision of rural water and electricity across the State.

“The State equally bought into the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) which focuses on rehabilitation of rural roads and associated capacity building of institutions with the mandate to provide and maintain rural transport infrastructure. The State has completed all its paper work and the programme will soon fully take off,” the Governor said.

Governor Akeredolu disclosed that each local government council will have one grader, noting that rentage of graders by the council chairmen to grade rural roads has now become a thing of the past.

He called for proper use and deployment of the equipment, particularly in grading rural roads to ensure easy movement of farm produce to the urban areas and reduce the cost of foodstuffs.

In their separate goodwill messages, the Chief Imam of Akure Kingdom, Sheik Yayi Akorede and the Chairman, Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Frederick Akinruntan represented by Jegun of Ile-Oluji, Oba Oluwole Adetimehin, lauded the Governor for providing good leadership in the state, even as they encouraged him to continue his good work in the interest of the state.

The Governor expressed hope that the roads will enhance the connectivity within the estate and afford motorists a safer and quicker accessibility to the centre of the town.

“The pains of residents along these roads have now been translated into joy. As this project is being handed over today, we have a responsibility, as a people, to ensure that the state of these roads is not only maintained but also enhanced.

“These well constructed concrete channels must not be turned into refuse dump. The asphalt must not be turned to site for car wash and must be seen as our personal property to be handled with utmost care.

“To the good people of Ondo State, we, once more, appreciate your cooperation and solidarity with our government in the past four years,” Governor Akeredolu added.

The Commissioner for Lands and Infrastructure, Engr. Raimi Aminu, said the road construction in Ijapo was another testimony of the commitment of the Governor to the infrastructure development in the state.

The commissioner added that other estates and areas in the town will soon enjoy the same infrastructure development.

The overall Chairman of Ijapo Estate Residents’ Association, Mr Bankole Desmond-Eke, said it is the first time in the history of any administration in the state that three roads projects, initiated and completed within the first 100 days of the second term of an administration, are commissioned at the same time.

Makinde receives NASS joint Committee on Aviation

…urges FG to uplift Ibadan Airport

…says Oyo willing to apply for takeover

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Thursday, asked the Federal Government to take necessary steps to uplift the standard of the Ibadan Airport, declaring that making Ibadan a regional airport will benefit the state and the national economy.

I agree wholeheartedly with Gov Makinde. Ibadan needs a befitting upgraded airport. The
feds should allow the state to fund the upgrade via PPP as requested.

@Kevapet was discussing this airport issue in one of his posts as well.

Kudos to Gov Seyi Makinde. In just 2 years as governor, he has achieved quite a bit.
