I am new to this forum. Please i did my biometrics on Friday,on my undergraduate certificate and waec, one of my names was omitted, however on my transcript,it was included and my passport has all three names , I did an affidavit ,but, the school rep(agent) that assisted me forgot to upload my affidavit for reconciliation of name. Should I be worried?

Good Evening Everyone,

Please is the rating of a University an important factor to be considered before accepting an offer for a Msc prog ?
How important is rating when it comes to getting a Job after school/What are the chances of getting a Job after finishing from a lowly rated University.

The gurus and experienced ones in the house should assist.

Not necessarily, its basically building the account rather than showing an account thats not funded at all. In the past denial experience I had, UKVI stated that they would still like to know the applicant can fend for him or herself incase anything happens to the sponsor.

Hence why I always advise submitting the applicant bank details as well as the sponsors, like we know decision from UKVI is dependant on the individual case officer

I will also like people who have a similar background like my self to help out on how they got ENGINEERING jobs in the UK after masters
My first professional job after bagging a UK degree and Msc in Petroleum engineering was at a railway station in London. I Worked there for almost 2yrs and gather my work experience. After 2 years got a good engineering job and the rest is honeymoon…. You won’t struggle for jobs as an engineer in the Uk especially a mechanical engineer. You just need a bit of tuning of your CV and some work experience …

My brother if you really want to go to school, go to school and forget about rating. Look for an affordable school and enrol. After graduation the highly rated and the lowly rated will fight for the same jobs.

In addition to the above, you can use the next 6months to ensure regular income is going into her account and also print that to show she can support herself as well incase anything happens she won't be stranded in the UK.

Generally, older people's application gets approved easily. All the best

@bronzedigger, like someone advised why not consider IT degrees such as data analysis, business analyst etc. You can get jobs in those as well. Gaining admission into Msc Nursing for someone without experience or background in health care is tough but not impossible. The schools offering admission into those courses are also limited so get ready for tough interview and some RPL assessment before getting admission.

Assuming you are going for data analysts for example, you can easily create your SOP and relate it to your experience in analysing data, developing CAD drawings, site works etc.

Meanwhile, as someone in construction, I would advise you to consider staying in the profession rather than jumping on the train of changing into nursing or any other career. I would advise you to consider Civil Engineering degrees as there are loads of jobs in the field for Project Engineers that can easily transition into Project Managers etc. Whilst that of mech engineers can be limited. Infact right now, if you have the knowledge of using Primavera software is an added advantage to work as Project Engineer/Planner and a lot of companies will rush to employ you.

All the best as you make your choice.

Wow wow wow... I'm happy I am getting somewhere .. thank you so so much... it's like you just saved a life...I'm so happy @fatima @all that contributed

You can contact UKIV with your application ref number and full name to inform them about the mistake and see what they will say . That is all you can do at the moment

Good evening everyone. I am new here and I want to solicit for advise

Hubby and I are planning to relocate to the UK via study route with our daughter (considering Jan 2022 session) He will do MBA while I work full time. *We need advise on where to settle down* (we are putting into consideration possibilities of getting good jobs for myself and for him after study) as this will determine the university we will apply to.

He is in the fintech industry (that is, the likes of flutterwave, paystack etc ) with 8years experience while I am a Chartered accountant (ICAN) with Msc Finance and 9 years experience.

Kindly help!!

Greetings, does anyone have a comprehensive checklist for a student travelling to the UK? of course apart from my travelling documents and certificates.

I'm looking for a checklist to work with in terms of things to bring along. I'm just overwhelmed and help here would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Got my first Engineering before I completed my MSc. Had to apply for loads of jobs though but got to Assessment centre stage for so many graduates jobs then. I believe it should be easier now than before when resident Labour Market was required.

If you are hardworking and willing to put time into applications, you will likely get something. My advice is once you commence your MSc in September, start applying for jobs immediately. Most grad jobs open in October and close in December or January for the next Sept resumption. So start early. Learn how to carry out telephone interviews. Learn how to answer competency questions. I had bank of competency questions then that covered a lot of soft skills such as team working, communication, difficult situations etc. Know how to structure your answers in STAR format.

Schools used to organise mock interviews and sessions to look at your CV. Utilise that very well. Change your CV and make it more professional. Write a good cover letter. Finally, get a friend that has been successful that can help.

Thanks, yes I am passionate. It's actually my dream career
CheesyTee:
It’s under the skill shortage list.

With 2.1 in BSc or MSc Psychology (Conversion) and registration with British Psychological Society, you get MBPsS and Graduate Basis for Chartered membership position and get to work as an assistant Psychologist earning at Band 4 or 5.

You can then proceed for PhD or a professional doctorate to be HCPC registered as clinical psychologist, health psychologist, counseling psychologist etc (depends on the specialization) and earn at band 7.

So yes, it’s lucrative but the question is, are you passionate about the course?

1. how was it like coping with your first ENGINEERING job while doing your msc,
2. was it like your were doing any part time job at that time before the ENGINEERING job,
3. is it possible to do an ENGINEERING job part time?
4. I'm in my early 30s hope that won'tbe an issue when applying for graduate jobs?

I'm not coming in this September but next year January

I'm really sorry if I am asking too many unnecessary questions here.. but I just believe I need them to make a good decision... at all gurus in the house...

I have 2 engineering courses to pick from, but I want to get some things right... the courses are :

Mechanical Engineering (with Advanced Practice) MSc
Project Management (with Advanced Practice)
MSc

My questions are:

1. Which is more better MECHANICAL ENGINEERING or PROJECT MANAGEMENT, considering that without a certification in project management such as PMP or PRINCE 2 it would be difficult to get job in the field.

2. Would it be better I stick to MECHANICAL ENGINEERING and do the PRINCE 2 OR PMP CERTIFICATION as an addendum to my degree instead of going for the msc in project management

3. Will I be able to do part time job with the MSc IN ADVANCED PRACTICE. Or the MSC ADVANCED PRACTICE would be what I will be doing only my second year

4. I am looking to apply at TEESSIDE UNIVERSITY. and the fees are like £7500 per year as I'm looking towards a 2 year master because of funds. Are there cheaper schools I can do my masters with good opportunities for engineering jobs around its environs

5. What are some of the benefits that comes with an MSC ADVANCED PRACTICE

6. How is it like getting an ENGINEERING job considering the effects of COVID 19 on the economy

Your encouraging and inestimable answers are highly needed

An MBA hasn't got much value; it's now almost as useless as an LLM for lawyers.
Experience always counts for way more.
Given your husband's current career and associated experience, why doesn't he apply for something in his field or related thereto?

Nigerian plumbing is different from plumbing in the Uk. In the UK plumbing is regulated as it also involves you carrying out installations of boilers an and other electrical related installations. You would need some some certification from regulating bodies…… it is a very lucrative trade if you ever want to pursue that line of business…
You should restructure your CV and start applying for jobs few months before the completion of your MSC. Be prepared for lots and lots of rejection emails but be optimistic….Also like someone earlier advice, familiarise yourself with how to answer UK interview questions. (Keep it short and simple but sell yourself as the best)….

I can't say much about the MSc in Mechanical Engineering, but I can advise that the MSc in PM doesn't count for much in terms of job value, in that regard you'd be better off with an APM certification. And forget all the "advanced practice" advertising, that's fancy terminology for an internship (which is not guaranteed, up to you to get one), or sometimes just a project.

There's nothing that you need that you cannot get in the UK, so everything you carry with you depends on your specific tastes and wants (e.g. Nigerian food, if you want, etc.). Warm outerwear you are best advised to buy here when you arrive and know what you will need. You can buy something secondhand in Nigeria to wear on the plane over and your time in quarantine and that's basically it.

When I came as a student, apart from basic clothing, the only thing I brought with me was malaria drugs and antibiotics (as Nigerians we have our weakness for indulging in self-medication), a good supply of Robb and egusi (for the only soup I know how to put together on some level). Everything else is substitutable and/or available here.

This your questions dey like bomb grin
The effects of COVID-19 on the engineering job market is relative. While some sectors were shut down during the peak of the pandemic, others were on full steam. But the demand has always been there for engineers throughout the pandemic.
Let me use myself for example. I was still working throughout the peak of COVID-19. And the company I work with has recruited over 3500 engineers nationwide so far since the pandemic. I also have a friend who is a wind turbine engineer and was working through the pandemic. In summary, engineers are as essential as doctors and are always in demand
