Most of these things are basically aesthetics. SADC, SANDF and any other acronyms are still the same people south Africans. The same map. The same terrain. The same equipment.

So who will you attribute those exploited too? United states? Or maybe Japan.

The lessons learned by the SADC are serving the SANDF today. It is that simple.
I suspect you misunderstood the point Odunayaw was making.

I think Nigerian Navy frequently rotates ships.

NNS Properity sailed from Eastern Naval Command to take part in this exercise.

NNS Prosperity could actually serve as a decent corvette.

Personally, I think the NN is not throwing around her weight. A couple of missiles integrated into that vessel would do wonders.

We'll just have to wait for this current anti-piracy threat assessment phase to pass.

In a modern warfare you can't just go make a defensive line of trench and you have no air defense capability, because with out air defense you opponent will just send just one aircraft and I assure you your trench defense line will be destroyed but this was not the case in world war 1. Now we hear things like 5th generation jets or stealth bombers

NNS Prosperity is a very old ship.

She doesn't even serve as a primary patrol ship in Nigeria.

I think it's best it continues as a Training/Patrol ship through out her life time with Nigeria.

We should focus instead on purchasing proper Corvettes, there are many good quality & cost effective corvettes in the market.

Turkey has many options to choose from, they are also open to ToT. There's China, Germany, Netherlands, France, possibly Korea (with Samsung Heavy Industries based in Nigeria, that's a good option thatcan be explored).

I definitely think after the delivery of NNS Kada, we would purchase a couple Corvettes or Frigates. 2 x of each of any chosen, minimum.

Sir you added your post on my own. Please edit it so it won't look like I said all those things. People here are savage.

......
Anyway, in world war one, there was aircraft, bombers, dive bombers, reconnaissance aircraft, torpedo bombers, etc.

And there was also trench. All of this are still in use today.

True.

I strongly feel that the NN will go for Chinese corvette's. Which is also great too. Two "missile-armed" corvettes plus our two P-18N stealth Opvs and a frigate will make a decent flotilla.

But sailing such a large number of capital vessels will likely put a hole in the NN pocket. I remember one time that they complained about how much fuel one hamilton-class patrol cutters was consuming in a single voyage. And now we have two.

The govt will have to increase their budget.

I think with the purchase of 2 x new OPVs, the Hamiltons might be placed on reserve.

Unfortunately, i don't see a scenario where the next government that comes in, increases military budget.

Whatever modernisation that needs to happen, if the 3 armed services don't use this opportunity to modernise, i fear for future upgrades of the military in the short term.

Every other government that comes in after this government would be more economy minded.

I just don't see any future budget increase unfortunately. The military can only hope on other revenue streams.

In any case, i could still be wrong.

Definitely we need atleast 2 Corvettes & 1 Frigate or 4 Corvettes.

Chai four corvettes.. Nigeria is truly better just that. Although, the CNS said that the NN is still adhering to its 10-years strategic plan.

Right now, with the two new corvettes in the pipeline, that means they've fulfilled their short-to-medium term requirement. What is left is the longer -term requirements which includes a submarine and a frigate.

The security of the gulf of Guinea is very important to the economy of Nigeria. Especially now that critical economic assets are being sited near the shores(LFTZ and Dangote refineries etc). For a country that depends heavily on import of finished product and export of raw materials, we can't have a strong economy if we don't have safe waters.

The good thing with the Navy is continuity of policy, strategic plan and objectives.

The Nigerian army just seems to be all over the place.

I don't like when commentators refer to our OPVs as corvettes, it gives false hope of what it really is.

We are getting 2 additional OPVs.

We should follow up with 2 proper Corvettes.

I don't know if you're following the Philippines military modernisation, it provides a modern approach for a budget military.

Let's see what happens within the near future, but i usually don't like to push my hope.

Army procurement is madness *no offense.*

First they acquired less than 50 T-72s (three different variants), then they went for less than 50 VT-4s which is perfect, and then someone somewhere thought it was a good idea to buy another 10 T-90s! Wow. And we still have T-54/55s, and Eagle (Vickers) Tanks.

Let me not even talk about MRAPS. because personally I've lost count of the number of varieties. From west to east, middle east and back to Africa.

Technical support, training, and logistics would be a nightmare by now. Well I believe the Army have their reason which I don't know about because they've stuck with this policy for a long time.
