I'm speaking based on the one I have seen and it crows like a rooster. It was killed in an abandoned building.. I'm sure you have not seen one,except on pictures.. I won't insult you sha,only say I no blame u..

Na matured snake. Can't say if it is a cobra or not. I only heard the clucking sound during my nysc days at Idanre-Owena from a very thick forest. About a week later a hunter shot and killed it.

I heard this sound so much during my service year in ebonyi state precisely in afikpo North few years ago. I thought it was a rooster but they said it was a matured male snake or a cobra.

Few weeks ago, I went for a big project in a remote area, lo and behold in that area that same sound was so much and it looks like as if there was 3000 roosters clucking in the midnight.

Seriously I'm very worried if they are indeed snakes/cobra or maybe a wild roosters in a densed bush.

It's of a different species to that of the real Cobras..

In Nigeria we have the Forest Cobra and maybe The Mozambiquan Spitting Cobra..

Let me not mention my current location because of privacy and the project I'm handling.

AMASIRI village in afikipo north around the coppers lodge or the former general hospital, within the area you will hear the clucking sounds at night.

If you reach AMASIRI village, move towards the coppers lodge or probably enter into the compound. You will hear the clucking sound especially by this time till November.

From 9pm you will start hearing those clucking sounds everywhere, and back then I tried to imagine how these sounds are snakes as they claimed.

But the truth is, they don't kill snake in AMASIRI and afikipo north in general, so there are tons of snakes within the coppers lodge because Bush surround the entire lodge.

So you can start from there.

Ask an elder local. It's probably some nocturnal bird. I doubt anything besides a bird or small mammal makes that sound.

Huge blackish Toad/frog makes such sound on land at night.

It won’t kill them but the smell makes them weak and uncomfortable. Snakes avoid such locations.
