I wouldn't go into the flawed arguments of the original poster and his supporters. Whether virginity is a prerequisite for a successful home or not should be left to spouses to decide for themselves.

The purpose of this thread is to attack the trend of applying virginity to only the female gender. The original poster and dozens of other responders talked about virginity with reference to the female gender only. The question then is, what about the males? Are males now permitted by religion, or morality, to engage in illicit sexual activities? Why do we always think of ladies each time virginity is mentioned? Why is there little or no emphasis on male virginity?

No matter how you want to look at it, a non-virgin male is exposed to the same factors as sexually exposed females. In terms of religion, the Bible frowns at premarital sex whether the individual is male or female. In terms of health, STD's and their complications apply to both males and females. In terms of fertility, male and female factor infertility may arise from high risk sexual exposures.

Our society is weird. Overtime, we have managed to tilt the standards against females. We hold them responsible when they bear female children only. We hold them responsible when the home fails. Now we are implying that they should remain virgins while the males are allowed to do as they please.

Maybe we should go back to the drawing board and begin to teach our children (males and females) the values of staying away from illicit sex and other high-risk habits. Maybe we should begin to tell ourselves that the laws of nature, and religion, apply to both males and females. It is cowardice to push blames to the females while keeping the male image aside. My point is, for a successful family, MALE and female factors are equally important.

1. Your Proverbs quote is not total in this instance. As far as the Bible is concerned, sexual purity applies to both men and women.

2. Accesses to sex and reproduction are determined by both men and women. If a man refuses sex, it wouldn't happen. Unless he would be forced. Same applies to women.

3. Testosterone is the major sex steroid in males. In females, oestrogens and progesterone play this role. They drive sexual desire. So, females too have sexual urges. Only that because of the state of the society, they are somewhat limited in expressing this.

4. Men are equally critical for reproduction. The topic about men fathering children that aren't theirs is outside the scope of this thread.

Oestrogens, progesterone, and testosterone play roles in the female sexual desire. Testosterone, as you have said, is quite minimal in females. You cannot peg the female sexual desire to only testosterone.
