Good evening Nairalanders. So, I've been a chronic Pepsi addict over the years. I usually take two plastic bottles daily. One during breakfast, and one at night.

I usually take it alongside rice, noodles, any food eaten with spoon. I'm 27. Three years from now, I'll be 30, meaning I'm on my way to middle age.

I've decided to stop drinking it. It's hard but I will try. I now take my food with very chilled water.

I need tips on how to win the fight over my addiction to Pepsi. Today is Day 1. I'm writing this post by 11:30pm, and I've not taken any Pepsi today.
You say what?

Why do want to stop?
You haven't stated what you are doing wrong. 2 bottles a day nothing, calories wise et al.

As any recovering soft drink addict can tell you, it just starts with '2 bottles'

Congratulations on your bold step to Better your life.

You need go understand addiction is very powerful and it never really goes

For you to change habits you have to change your mindset

So that your subconscious would only bring to your conscious habits that would make your life better..

One tip I can advise you.

Whenever you get the urge to buy pepsi just say no out loud
Don't think to much just shout out no

That thought would go very silent.

If you ever feel the urge too much,
Buy the Pepsi, but immediately you open it empty the content in the sink or gutter and fill the container with water.

And drink from that bottle

When you pour Pepsi in the gutter 10 times

You would realize you don't need the Pepsi and you don't have to waste such money convincing yourself.

But first you need to convince your mind that buying Pepsi is a waste of money.

And that simple trick I shared up there, would teach your brain that lesson .

I wish you all the best.

On a final note, always talk about your struggels.

Ask people to join your no soda challenge for let's say 5 days first.

Let people know you're going through the addiction.

You can't defeat addiction in isolation, you need help from others.

That's why this post is a step in the right direction

All the best, can't wait to hear your testimony

You stopped pepsi and started taking cartons of beer weekly? Beer contains more sugar than pepsi naw.

No, i dont take Pepsi... I can't remember when last i took soft drink may be because i am addicted to beer. However, the myth about beer having more sugar is not true. The barley is fermented to get alcohol. Most the sugar coverts to alcohol in the process.

Evidence : i see a lot of people who are addicted to coke and Pepsi suffering from diabetes while alcoholics suffer liver diseases. However, all carbonated drinks are unhealthy. I prefer my nkwuelu and okpa or bush meat. Before 40, i will solely depend on them and shun carbonated drinks.

Let's say you've been an addict for 10 years and you drink 2 times daily=N200 in a year that amounts to N73,000 now in 10 years N730,000. If you have saved this money. You could get a boar and a sow and start piggery. You'll still have money to run a poultry of 200 birds of broilers and 200 pieces of local turkey while feeding them extensively to adlibitum from that same money and every December you'll be smiling to the bank without touching your savings....

IN OTHERS WORDS YOU'VE BEEN DRINKING YOUR HEALTH AND WEALTH AWAY

One of the best ways to end an addiction is to seek an alternative.

Try making something, or other healthy alternatives like Hibiscus drink, tiger nut drink, yoghurt, and the likes. With time, you'll find out you enjoy the healthy alternatives. In addition, you'll feel healthier.

Good! While you are at it, try some exercise like jogging long distances everyday and chewing bitter leaf.

I think I do.

Addictions all start the same way...just with 1 or 2...and then builds up to 3 or 5.

The only fast working tip you need is to visit any hospital that has diabetic ward. The things you will see there will make you cringe.

One mechanic in my area is suffering from it now, two years ago, I advised him to limit Pepsi/coca-cola intake..this guy will drink Pepsi twice everyday like you mentioned.

He got wounded on his leg last year and till now the wound has refuses to heal...they are trying to amputate his leg currently.

OP listen to this. The outcome may be fovourable or not but it will help your resolve.

My two cents.

@op, It is not easy but you can do it. Initially, I was addicted to Coke cola to the extent I took some to bed. I took 7 big bottles on a sunny day. But, I was able to stop when I created an imaginary pain whenever I see it anywhere.

Secondly, I made lots of fresh fruits home juice. After six years I can say that I am a winner. You need to be determined and look for a healthy replacement.
Good luck ☺

Don't worry na, continue drinking it, na when you get old you go come dey give your children wahala to dey nurse your passing out every time. Continue

1. 30 is not middle age. If it was then I suppose dey grave long ago.

2. Why take Pepsi? Coca Cola is the superior choice.

3. You're not so addicted. Some white people take 4 to 6 cans daily and live regular lives.

5. You're flexing. I'm meant to believe most Nairalanders can't pull the feat of buying 2 bottles of Pepsi daily.

6. There is no number 4. I was cheeky for no reason.

I don't see the problem. The same way you started is the same way you can stop. Start taking water or reduce your intake, hoping to meet no can a day eventually.

There's nothing bad in taking a chilled Pepsi after a long hot day..

Instead of trying to stop at once try reducing it..

Welcome, you can win.
If you can be motivated, you will surely win, let me list the benefits of not taking pepsi.

1) You lower your sugar intake drastically, which means less unhealthy sugar, fewer chances of diabetes, and more healthy teeth.

2) You help in the conservation of groundwater, the Pepsi companies exploit freshwater resources and as a result, there is less water as years pass on, farmers lose more access to water, so you are even saving the water resources and helping in conservation.

3) You reduce plastic waste or metallic waste in the environment, which is indirectly good for your health, since you are not also consuming plastic too

4) You increase your vitality and youthfulness since you take less artificial sugar and its preservatives, so you are likely to have better skin if you choose healthier drinks, such as appropriate herbs, or herbal tea.

It all depends on what you want, ask yourself what do you really want, what is the utility in this quest.

cheesy cheesy cheesy I can't remember the last time I took Fanta or Pepsi, its been years, Although I like sugar sometimes, I take mine from fruits.
So there is that tendency to replace sugar sources, but if we are mindful we can cut it off.

when I was a teenager I stopped adding cubes, of sugar, although I like cubes of sugar, with time my tongue adjusted to my commitment and even became more sensitive to powered milo, i could taste the sugar in millo without adding sugar, i could even sense it was much, So let's say I make tea, with milk and millo, i don't need sugar, and sometimes, when I tried coffee, I could drink it without sugar, because my tongue had adjusted

Try it without sugar for let's say one week, your system will adjust, its flexible

Take it or leave it, all human will definitely have to fight one or more battles at a certain point in life. More interesting and exciting is to have the courage to own up and decide to face the issue squarely.
I salute your courage.
I can relate to this issue because I am...... Uhumm... was also Coke addict.

I will tell you it is not going to be easy but with discipline and dedication you can do it.

I will modify this post later to give you tips on how to handle the urge to grab the bottle... Have to work now....
