Interesting facts but I don’t think the number of Yorubas here is that much more than Igbos. It’s probably more but not as substantial as this data suggests.

I’ll say this. I’m in a WhatsApp group with my US based college friends. Five of us are Yoruba, three of us are Igbo and one is from Warri. Five of the Yorubas speak Yoruba. One of the Igbos speak Igbo and my friend from Warri doesn’t speak his language.

It’s also obvious that a lot of immigrants were Lagos residents. The percentage of Yoruba Lagos residents that speak their native language is higher when compared to other ethnicities. These realities matter.

Look at the Ghanaian number vs the number that speak their language. The percentage that speak their language is very high.

Furthermore there are actually millions of Nigerians in the US. A lot just don’t identify as Nigerians.

Language attrition affects most Nigerian groups abroad at almost equal or similar levels. Even if there are nominal differences it shouldn't be bad to heavily throw off the figures by multiple factors. Africans like Somalis, Ethiopians and even Ghanaians are much more in tune with their indigenous languages and pass it on to their children compared to Nigerians across board.

As for Africa Magic channels, of course AM Yoruba is much more watched than AM Igbo. All Nigerians from all regions watch General AM channel from Benue to Ogun to Rivers.

You are slightly wrong with your first paragraph. I was based in the UK. Yorubas are renowned for teaching their kids Yoruba. Igbos are known for not bothering. Their are hundreds of thousands of Yorubas that have never been to o Nigeria, yet they speak Yoruba.

It is not even a competition. That is a plus for the Yorubas, but here is you all are, trying to belittle this Yoruba achievement.

For every Igbo child that is being taught Igbo in the US, there are probably about 4 or 5 Yoruba youths learning Yoruba.
If you all remember, there was a UN agency study that once placed Igbo language on the endangered language list some years ago. Yoruba was never placed on that same list, obviously because Yoruba parents were passing on the language to the younger generation.

The only reason Igbo speakers in the US are even up to 90,000+, according to this US report, is because Igbos have a huge population, otherwise realistically speaking, the Igbo figure is even worse than the Edoid figure ratio-wise.
